Re: Mists of Pandaria
I'd love a diablo/guild wars skill limitation. It'd simplify things, sure, but I'm too lazy to learn my class nowadays. I wish everyone shared the same gear and you work towards vanity gear in PvP.
As for the dropping of subs, that's been happening for a while and it has sped up a bit since MoP simply because of how old the game is. A lot of the player base has grown up and grown out of the game. Of my real life mates, I used to know probably 20 odd dotted here and there who played but I don't believe any of them do anymore. When the next expansion comes out, the subs will boost straight back up and then continue to drop - 7.7 mil is still a massive number! WoW will eventually dwindle, servers will be merged and new games will appear but it still has a couple of years before that begins to happen.
As for difficulty levels of the game... Yes, they have casual modes but they also have heroic mode. I believe people have become a lot better at the game and the mechanics can only go so far so guilds can clear content faster than they used to but I always see people complain about how casual the game has become yet they haven't cleared heroic (most of the time, they haven't even cleared the first boss). I think you can only really complain about difficulty when you've actually bested the content.

TBC was so much more diverse, what with every class having specific niches that couldn't be filled by anybody else, so your team setup playstyle would change so drastically if you swapped a member for another class, because nobody had duplicate tools (except for Wound poison vs. Mortal Strike, and even then, wound poison was dispellable and had to stack up)
The stacking could be a blessing in disguise. I recall that quite a few of the poison dispels actually had to remove each stack of Wound Poison individually and so stacking it up would provide a shield from dispelling for the other poison you wanted on the target normally crippling, unless I'm misremembering this completely.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
You're right though. Stacking debuffs were generally considered OP for the sake of dispell bloat. Sort of like how hunters would use scorpids to stack its poison dot to 5 so druids/shamans couldn't dispell the viper sting. For this reason, vs. hunter teams, as a druid, I generally only swapped out of bear to refresh LB and Abolish poison. Shamans had the auto dispell totem, but couldn't block the poison otherwise.
But yes, in TBC and WLK, dispell-over-time was a thing.
@Vaell: A diablo/guild wars skill limitation would absolutely destroy WoW PVP. The game is not built to be able to handle a convertion to that system. It quite simply wouldn't work.

Why? They seem to have made a step in that direction with the current talent tree already. I don't see why that couldn't be expanded upon by having all abilities chosen that way.

The Sha can fester as they please!
The only thing I'm sad about missing out in MoP, RPing Muzjhath getting affected by Sha of Hate would have been glorious (Well, from a story point of view, playing it would likely have been hard and demanding, which is also glorious!)

Want to be a fly on the wall when the hag hears of this. Though there is rumour it is some HC vision thing.
"He will learn, no Warchief rules forever"
On a slight aside, imagine if SW being ganked by Orcs again was one of the Yogg'saron visions. That would be epic.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
... I so wish that Blizzard would have been braver. And designed the final Raid of the expansion as a battle. And both Garrosh or Wrynn the older (or other Alliance leader) dying. Could design the encounters etc to use the exact same mechanics and hitboxes just different skins and looks.
Imo it would have been a better story than the whole rebellion. I can't say if it's really good or not. But well, instead of putting the war into warcraft (which they might have done) and really have the factions fight at the end, it's as the last two/three expansions that the player factions team up.

Well, had you been in the elite task force that went in to kill the King/Warchief you'd be the hero as well!
Just only for your own faction.
Would also be refreshing with a final boss NOT old god or burning legion related. =P

Re: Mists of Pandaria
Actually this whole Stormwind thing was actually foreshadowed in the recent faction story on the WoW site "The Blank Scroll".
Game mechanics and raid wise... it may turn out to be some vision or other. *shrugs*
Garrosh believed in a world ruled by the orcs. The scroll had made that reality. The orcs flowed over Kalimdor, enslaved by a different master than the demonic blood that had once dominated them. Nothing could kill them, and the pale void of the artifact that drove them blazed in their empty eyes.
Teldrassil had toppled, burning, into the sea. A charred pit was all that remained of the Exodar. The tauren and trolls, appalled by the devastation, had fled across the Great Sea, hoping that Garrosh would be content with his victories.
He was not.
Ziya stood near Stormwind Harbor. A last stand alongside her allies and former enemies. A fight they couldn't win.
The sound of footsteps jerked her around, daggers ready.
"You," she said.
"Me," said Druz, winding a frayed bandage around a long gash on his arm. "Good to see you, Sergeant."
He carried no weapon. Maybe it had been lost. Maybe he had given up and dropped it. She couldn't blame him either way.
They stood shoulder to shoulder. The orc fleet poured into the crowded bay, spilling hundreds of howling warriors onto the dock. Tauren died alongside humans, dwarves, and blood elves, but too late, too late.
The orc at Ziya's feet stirred, his hideous wounds closing.
"Good intentions, huh?" Druz said.
"All of this is our fault," Ziya said quietly.
Druz chuckled. "At least we won't live to regret it."
Ziya charged into the battle, and Druz followed.

Stormwind fell. The orcs reigned supreme. For a time.
The Dark Portal, left unguarded, was reclaimed by the Burning Legion. Horrors rose from the sea and found no champions left to stop them.
Azeroth's mountains burned and melted. Its oceans boiled until nothing remained. And all was dark.

More details on the harbor.
Only appears in Siege of Orgrimmar. Namely the Garrosh fight. Based on all the stuff we already know happens in the Garrosh fight...
So, almost definitely a vision. Probably 'Garrosh's world' for Stage Three.
Patch 5.4 - Siege of Orgrimmar Stormwind Harbor
A damaged version of the Stormwind Harbor area exists in the Patch 5.4 PTR files. This is not located in the regular world, just in the Siege of Orgrimmar encounter.
During the Garrosh encounter in Siege of Orgrimmar, players are teleported to a modified section of Temple of Jade Serpent, Terrace of Endless Spring, and Temple of the Red Crane. Each area has a sha spell surrounding part, preventing you from leaving it. This version of the Stormwind Harbor has a similar spell, along with the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] spells. These point to the area being used at some point during the Garrosh encounter.

- Spoiler:
- Intermission: Realm of Y'shaarj
Periodically the call of Y'shaarj will transport Garrosh and the players into the Realm of Y'shaarj for 60 sec. Garrosh will Absorb Energy from the Heart of Y'shaarj until players have defeated all Minions of Y'shaarj inside the realm and interrupt Garrosh.
"Garrosh Hellscream yells: You think you have won, you are blind. I will force your eyes open! Behold, my glorious destiny!"
---
Stage Three: MY WORLD
At 10% health Garrosh will absorb the remaining power of Y'shaarj, gaining full energy, empowering all of his abilities.
"Garrosh Hellscream yells: Anger, hatred, fear, they are weapons of war. The tools of a Warchief. Yes, yes, I can see it now. I can see the future of this world. A world ruled by the Horde, my Horde! The old one calls to you. The heart will be your end. See the visions of fear, despair and doubt as I have. You will be trapped for eternity. The true horde will come to pass, I have seen it! I have seen mountains of skulls and rivers of blood, and I will have my world!"
So, almost definitely a vision. Probably 'Garrosh's world' for Stage Three.

That is cool. That makes me want the SoO more, and more lore. This is a good thing.
The game has always been Orcs and Humans (since the RTS). It has been and will continue to be the Old Gods. That's a Lovecraftian Trope that won't be left alone. And it shouldn't be. The Titans/Old Gods/Burning Legion Trinity is the true war in WoW as it is now. Each against and making each other. We're but pawns. Trying to take control.
