[A] Meeting of Guilds - Interest check
Meeting of Guilds - Interest Check
Once in a while I'll hear someone talk about wishing there was a steady, neutral get-together for guilds that was different from the council, one where everyone could come together without the politics and staring at walls, and make events and social rp. Something a little more similar to what the Horde have going on. The problem is actually doing so.
Since I'm not doing much else lately, I thought I could spend the time organizing such a thing on my paladin Elienn, if the interest is there.
What is it?
An IC gathering of roleplayers - guild leaders or their representatives coming together in a quiet spot to discuss any topics at hand, while the rest of their guilds can gather on the grounds a free IC meal (food!) and take advantage of this excuse to come together.
This would not be meant as competition to the council, as it would be serving different needs. There are no ministers in charge of this, no laws being decided.
Every guild leader or rep would be on equal grounds, possibly with my character acting as spokesman if necessary, though she wouldn't be in charge of anything otherwise. Nothing too strict.
Who can take part?
Anyone! Yes, even if you're not in a guild! (Which means these meetings might need a better name to make this clear)
If you want to meet up with other roleplayers and hear what's going on, or get the chance to take part in some future events, then that is what this place is for.
But what would we do?
Examples of what could possibly be discussed at a guild meeting:
- Reports on recent activities and successes
- Advertising events
- Recruiting participants for events or adventures
- Discussion of inter-guild concerns
- Topics that might be of interest to other guilds, such as problems with the Horde, etc.
Or other suggestions you might have!
There are lots of meetings of different subjects all through the week, so I want to see if something like this is still wanted. If it happens it can be arranged to happen as rarely as biweekly or even monthly, depending on demand.
Questions? Ideas? Would you even want a thing like this?

Re: [A] Meeting of Guilds - Interest check
I'm afraid that this would not work out if there is no overall rule keeping it bound. People have this one "obligation" of sorts per week and it's rather hard to expect they would agree on the other one. I know this as I have organised something different from the Council which is House of Nobles - it's really hard sometimes not to be alone there or in a group of 5.
Besides, there are tavern events and Weekly RP Spot which bring people together. There is also the Traders Branch that gathers dozens.
However, I do see your point and agree that such a melting point could be a good thing to have. But maybe you should try to incorporate it into something bigger? Like a community mass in the Cathedral (not to give a sermon like in Christian churches, but to meet with people in public space to discuss matter like in Islam)?

I feel that making it something like a community mass already gives it a theme that naturally excludes some groups that would otherwise want to come.
The scale in this is dependant on what people want to make together, and giving them the opportunity to keep in touch and work together with events and random rp, such as those trade happenings.
Then again, this is just an interest check. It will only happen if people want to give it a try, and if they don't think this need is already fulfilled If there is no need and people already get this from the existing arrangements, then of course it can continue that way.

Re: [A] Meeting of Guilds - Interest check
While the idea sounds good I don't believe it will work.
The location and time are different but this would basically be just another iteration of the council meeting. It will gather the same crowd and it will be the same people who take head of this gathering.
With such diversified crowd as we already have on DB it will be nearly impossible to find an idea which would not automatically exclude some groups.
The core idea is good but it will need a lot of work if you really want it to work.

If it was different enough to the Council, and perhaps covering slightly different themes, I like the idea. This may sound incredibly biased (and it probably is), but I think the event would be better aimed to the guilds that aren't guard/paladin orders - not necessarily criminals, but just a different crowd. Anyone should be allowed to go, but if it was designed to appeal to to groups that wouldn't necessarily be at home in the Council, it would be a be a better idea in my opinion.

An event aimed towards the cuvullian groups would indeed most likely draw more attention.
As it's non military the civillian groups will be interested, guard guilds will most likely also attend (just make sure they don't take over the event) and make their own RP if needed during it.

As a independent (not part of a guild) I think this would be a good idea.
I'm not sure that there is enough interest in creating a Crafters Guild as such - though I may have to put out an Interest Check in case - but it would be good as a Crafter to come along to something like this which is not the Council and not guard-guild oriented, where we can discuss "stuff" which is going on in the city.

It definitely wouldn't be made to just be another council, there is already a place for that. I was thinking more alike the Horde Gathering, just for Alliance rpers. If the interest was there, I'd likely go and try talking to the horde people on things to look out for, and other advice they might have on making it work out.
You'd be able to discuss anything going on with your guild or rp, so also things not Stormwind related.
Edit: Forgot to add that of course everyone's suggestions to what could go on during these meetings would be considered as well! As long as they fit the general theme of inclusion and neutral ground.

Re: [A] Meeting of Guilds - Interest check
Problem is that the Alliance and the Horde are very different at it's core.
While the horde has it's gatherings the alliance has it's council/senate. In essence both are exactly the same, albeit one being more "civilised" and frequent then the other.
If you really want it to be like the horde gatherings (ie all guilds and independants meeting up) the closest you can get is a largescale military campaign. You would need builders, crafters, soldiers, ... It will happen mostly on neutral ground as most likely you're in, or close to, enemy territory
But doing this will require a huge effort from both sides, as a military campaign of this scale demands for a big battle at the end.

Could be! In the end it will only happen if enough people show interest, but I'd like to think it's worth a shot.

Re: [A] Meeting of Guilds - Interest check
Sounds like a good place to put the stuff that is of questionable relevance to the council aswell. I know a lot of people find the council boring as balls. I know I do, if done right this might actually be a lot of fun. I can't really speak for my gm Zelium and the other officers but I'd want to at least try it out.
P.S
If we get this to work it might spark up some more rp and events between guilds. Which is not really something the council has been great at lately(to my memory).

Might try and talk to a few of you who showed interested in-game, and see what you all think, if I can remember to do so. Will also stop by the Horde Gathering for a closer look.
Feel free to poke me on VĂrra/Allonia/Elienn if you see me around.
