Every race is humanised anyway. With any race in a fantasy setting or folklore, we are unable, as humans whose sole interactions have been with other humans, to assign these races inhuman personality traits. To get around this, certain human traits are exaggerated and others downplayed, and voila, you have a "unique" race.

Tl;dr they're all the fucking same race anyway, have fun

Once (not naming anyone), my half orc was getting into a fight with a guy, with three others watching. Then three wooden bats magically appeared in the corner. No-one there was a mage. -.-

I felt the same way -starting- RP, and RPing with any new groups at all, really.

But a good RPer will never judge you for it, and they won't judge your char, though their CHARACTER might! You could always lurk and watch the elves a bit, try to pick some stuff up on an OOC level, if it helps. There -are- night elf RPers out there who get hostile about night elves being in Stormwind (for a variety of reasons) but truth be told, if your char has a reason to be there, then she should be! You could always say she's deliberately "trying out" their culture to learn it, too!

I feel the same way about this, and have people tell me "it's a fantasy game, it's all unrealistic." "YES, PEOPLE, BUT THERE'S COMMON-SENSE LIMITS!" ...My own confession is that I get incredibly annoyed at this attitude at times and tend to get more hostile than strictly necessary, which I always feel bad about later. I'm also very anal about spelling and grammar, and while I never judge anyone for it (I'm living in Germany and my German's awful), I get really OCD about correcting it, especially where it's not welcome >.> "PUNCTUATE YOUR SENTENCES FFS." Yeah, I'm one of those dicks who clutches their eyes, covers their ears with towels and shrieks "MY IMMERSION!"

I do all these things but not because of immersion. If anything I'm easily capable of immersing myself in any environment, I always have a thick mental filter in place whenever I RP to ensure that only the things that make sense make it into my cranium. But no, I just do it because I'm an asshole.

I'm the opposite. I tend to switch off and hope they don't ask me stuff because, fuck me, I don't know how to teach someone RP. I don't want to have to explain things to people, leave me alone, I'm not your mum.

I completely agree. There are people who will say WELL THERE'S MAGIC AND ORCS SO ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. But people who say that are either being deliberately obtuse or they really don't understand how a story works. Any fantasy world has rules, because there can't be a story without them. If the writer breaks those rules at will, then there's not really any point in having a story.

Like, all these times you've been surrounded by enemies, almost killed, this time you'll probably die, but........ NO! Because it turns out, mages can actually teleport you and all your friends to safety whenever they want, because it's fantasy! So next time you get in a fight, who cares? You won't die, you'll just teleport away. Or you're stuck somewhere, low on supplies, reinforcements can't get to you? No probs guys, here's a portal. Let's go home.

I get that some people don't like realism and want to just do whatever, and I don't mind that at all. But for some (a lot) of people, internal consistency is a pretty important part of any good story, and the thing that annoys me is people who just seem unable to comprehend that and who think you're having fun wrong, and then try to force their way of roleplaying on you.

So I guess my confession is that I silently rage when unrealistic things happen. Mad

And this is why I avoid snowflake characters at all costs. They give me a headache.

I really dislike the type of person who's first to jump in line when it comes to hurting or more specifically killing somebody's character. Only to throw a hissy fit when their character is hurt or hide behind the fact they don't accept IC death.

They should get rid of plot armour and do it on a roll. Every fight roll if you lose you die, then maybe fear will become RP again.

We'd all stand to gain if people thought to having their characters only use violence (in all its emote/duel/roll) and its forms as an absolute last resort.

But sadly, everyone wants to have a big penis.

Though I may only manage it half the time, I much preffer out-witting Krogon's enemies.

I want to type a story about my character and upload it but I worry it might have rammifications on guild reputation or something. This is even knowing it'd be on a 'need an account to view the content' site plus a 'didn't rly hapen' disclaimer. Folk pulling shit like "HAHA I SAW UR CHARACTR NEKKED /uploads" isn't really helping.

I am saving Rp by not logging in and contributing to the queue explosion. I also don't really want to wind up raging at a queue so I guess it's not totally altruistic on my part but whatever I want a sticker.

Sometimes there's characters or people I think are snazzy and want to bump into but I don't want to come across as HEYLETMEBREATHEDOWNYOURNECKANDGETALLCLINGY so I kind of sit on my hands.
