[A] Auction of Oaths

A few posters are popping up in SW and the surrounding villages, for a charity event on the evening of 10th Dec.

Idea: Just as it says, an auction event, hosted by the Kaldorei Embassy, in aid of the Hawke Medical Centre. All proceeds collected IC going to the free medical centre for the general good of the City. Show some Winter Veil spirit, and help those who may one day be helping you when you need them most.

Oathmakers wanted: Got an unusual talent or service you can provide, something interesting or obscure? (keep it legal!) Then be prepared to step up and raise some cash. No limit on what this can be, entirely dependant upon your imagination. (or be humiliated if no-one bids) No telling who you will end up with as your winning bidder ^^ On the night you'll be asked to explain your oath in a brief and succinct manner, so have a snappy sales pitch ready!

Bidders wanted: Bring a reasonable amount of IC gold (No actual gold will be exchanged, but you must be prepared to haggle hard and fast (and realistically) to win the services of your chosen oathmaker. Come along claiming to offer a gazillion gold on everything? You'll be kicked out as a madman. Be prepared to lose on some bids, let everyone have a chance to win something

Kaldorei sentinels will be on hand to ensure your gold is taken and safely stored No gold IC on the night? = No win... Still you can come along to spectate


Not sure how this event will pan out, but hopefully it'll be a fun way to make some random RP connections depending upon how your oaths and bids are taken. More the merrier, and the bidding process will be clearly explained on the night.

Hmmm. This being two days since the start of theDamnation's Call Campaing, i'll probably be busy with organizing that. If not though, i'd gladly show up on Skarain.

I am however not exactly sure how the Oathmaking works. Basically you set up a performance or show your talent or skill in something, and the bidders can "buy" you?

Or is it more like setting up a street performance and people may throw coin into it if they like it? You know all those musicians, dancers or statue-pretenders standing on streets in real life and trying to earn a coin with it. Like that?

More like a straight up auction of things you can volunteer IC, than a street performance. For example (pulling an idea out of the air here)

Oathmaker #1: I offer a private tour of the Thelsamar Ale distilleries, plus accommodation for one night, featuring tales behind each brew and samples of everything thrown in.

Auctioneer: Alright people, we start at 3 gold...
Bidder #1: Sounds good, 3gold mate!
Bidder #2: Bah, worth 5gold
Bidder #1: screw that, 6gold here!
and so forth... until someone relents

One of my guildmates has jokingly offered to volunteer to do something completely beyond her characters natural comfort zone. A hard bitten Sentinel offering to wear a dress and dance for entertainment for example. That would be an ideal thing to offer and bid upon because I for one would pay to see her do that, and hey.. it's for charity! Think of those blokes that get their chests waxed for charity, So entertaining 'dare' oaths would be perfect alongside the 'opportunity' type outlined above.

If it's not quite making sense still, just let me know I'm happy to talk it over with anyone in /w or on here ofc. And it is a shame it clashes with the campaign (I was fixing a date before I was aware of the plans for that), though I was relieved to see it misses clashing with the big three battles planned.

Lycaon was offered up by Ralegh as a general dogsbody ;)5g50s
Thondalar promised his skills as druid for a day: 23g (some hard bidding on this one! Looked like he was going to be bought by a DK at one point)
Susande sold lessons in the three virtues and her gifts for song: 2g3s
Arenfel offered three amazing spells of the highest bidders choice: 2g
Terenas sold his services as hunter/guard and comedian: 55s
Arcolon sold his skills as Mage for a day: 2g10s
Yunru sold her storytelling gift as Lorewalker to entertain, and to also spread the personal story of the highest bidder: 10g
Skye and Liaera were a double oath of pretty much whatever the bidder wanted, bid hotly upon by Philip and Maelmoor: 60g
Lomonde stepped up to offer his skills as Bard and private 'entrepreneur': 12g
Sernity sold her services as maid for a day:20g
