...Because assassins killing a sovereign never complicates anything for other sovereigns eh?
I'd say this just complicates stuff, even more so if it becomes known it was Si:7

SI:7 is a Alliance organisation though responsible for overseeing the entire Alliance, not just a specific city. Though, this just proves Varian is batshit crazy further. (<33333)
PS: Just so I join the bandwagon. Source of the information?
Screenshots, Mmo-champ, or any other site for Cataclysm leaks is good. Else I will find hard to belive it until I actually see rummours in MMO or ingame when Cata hits.

Well, I'd say Varian would immediately be the prime suspect either way, and the implicit message is simple:
"If I don't approve of your sovereign that person'll not be your sovereign for long."

You also need to take in account the fact he is the leader of the Alliance, or will be when Cataclysm hits. c_c

So the Alliance is turning away from its 'democratic' nature (or a coalition, so to speak) and is becoming more of a federal entity?
Could you link me something where I can read up on this because really, I've not heard that before and daaayumn it's peaked my interest.

Last place I saw this beeing discussed with some other stuff from the Alpha was on the MMO forums which have been taken down because of the lawyer zerg rush. But its all in the circle of rummours for now, so nothing confirmed for now. Wait and see is what I`ll do for now.

The Alliance has always had a leader in times of war. Notable persons include Anduin Lothar and Turalyon, who've had the final say over the Alliance armies. I'm not through it yet but the novel Tides of Darkness pretty much has all the Alliance nations following Lothar. (Alterac being the exception later)

I've always presumed that leader would be a military leader, Ataris, not a single political leader.
Say an Eisenhower with FDR and Churchill doing the politics but neither having a position above the other. I interpretted Geldar's statement as being that politically Varian was now in control of the Alliance, in a way the Warchief is in control of the Horde.

I wouldn't say either of them are in control of the Alliance or the Horde, they just have a big say in what should happen, something most of the other faction leaders respect in times of war.

Mallea wrote:As a Forsaken, I'm pro-Magatha because she was a big proponent of them joining the horde despite being ugly as sin and a bit strange.
In other words, she's forward-thinking and sensible.
I don't doubt that :) I just think that it's very evident she's thinking VERY far forward (and acting alone, almost - the actions of her tribe don't mirror her cunning at all) into a future where she is the high chieftan (or crone, think the title switches with gender)
I for one would love a phased Grimtotem uprising scenario but I doubt Blizzard would put so much effort into something that players are likely to experience at the lower levels only (similar to the Vol'jin/Garrosh confrontation) and I figure it's just enticing rumours :(
there were so many interesting leads and quests in vanilla WoW that suggested that Magatha could even have had a hand in assisting the forsaken apocathary (wrathgate) rebellion or even have had some sort of alliance with the scourge BUT they just did an expansion all about that and there wasn't even a minor reference towards any of it. No chance of a resolution or further intrigue methinks and that is a huge shame, if the suggested Garrosh scenario does happen they'll just revolt, get killed, get looted zzzzzz
Re: Cataclysm Alpha / SPOILERS BE AND GOES HERE!
Funny, that the actual tension between Ironforge and Stormwind now even gets translated to lore. Silly Varian thinking he can boss tha Dorik around eh, I'll park my Steam Tank at his doorstep.
Anyway, Magni still has two brothers, and since we need a faction leader for: http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=614/for-the-alliance we'll be getting *someone* in return, either way, I am glad to see some progression in the storyline of the Dwarves.

Re: Cataclysm Alpha / SPOILERS BE AND GOES HERE!
Assuming the event described is a close approximation... is it just me, or is Blizzard intentionally removing sources of disunity in the factions? Killing Magatha to remove the grimtotem rebelliousness, getting rid off the dwarven issue-crisis by having Moira throw a coup and then be assassinated. Removing Thrall to remove all major opposition of war among the orcs (and then having the alliance capture him so that his supporters side with Garrosh). Vol'jin seem critical but I wouldn't bat an eyelash if he decided to throw his lot in with Garrosh once he spots alliance warships on the horizon.
Seems to me they're streamlining both factions, removing the multi-headed leadership style for a simpler system, with one leader per faction and no non-killable voices of discord.
On a semi-separate note. I've seen that Dwarven succession crisis coming ever since I did the Moira quest chain (which is one of my favourite ones). Ever since Magni let slip that "the spell" Thaurissian put on his daughter hadn't worn off (which hints that she actually did love him) I figured it would come eventually. Either she/her son or Bronzebeard traditionalists would throw the coup.
As for leadership, I don't think they'll raise Brann or Muradin to the throne. Most likely, Redstone and the senate will step in as a sort of regency council until Moira's son is fully grown (and raised by them) or they'll get rid off the monarchy all together. Partly because it makes sense since the dwarves do have a clear line of succession, and partly because then Varian would outrank them all (which fits with the: "tuck-in-the-factions-under-one-leader" thing)

Also, killing off Fandral Staghelm in that STormrage book... or so I've heard anyways

Well... it's simple. We're going back to the First and Second war.
And that was all fine, was it not?
Bloodshed, hate, war. Simple orders from the over-top-head-leader!

That. It makes this entire discussion pointless if we are discussing facts pulled out of thin air, not even rummours.

King Magni's death would of course throw the nation in to a blist of darkness for a long time.

If Blizzard should kill off the leaders it should be Velen or Tyrande, you know the unimportant ones.
But yes I also am awaiting Grahams source until then i consider it rubbish

Lets be honest, no hippy (motivations irregardless) is going to ask 90% of his species to die to a rampaging swarm of nutters so that said horde thinks 100% of the species is dead.
