I'm sorry, but NOTHING could make the Tauren allow Cairne to be slain. Unless he just.. died of old age. If Garrosh executed Cairne the Trolls, Forsaken, Blood Elves and fucking Tauren would cut Garrosh off and launch an invasion.

Trolls maybe, but the Forsaken and BElves? Why do they care about Cairne at all?

Because, if Garrosh can get away with killing the dei facto Right Hand to Thrall, he can get away with slaughtering Sylvanas and Lor'themar. It's called setting an example.

There's a difference there though. The Forsaken wants to wage war in the Eastern Kingdoms while Cairne probably doesn't. Garrosh approves of war.

BElves I can't speak for, but aren't they like being buddies with the Forsaken as well?

The Blood Elves are in the horde solely on Sylvanas' threat to walk if they did not accept them. If Sylvanas walked the Horde would lose their city on the Eastern Kingdoms. With Sylvanas in the doghouse however, you are right in the fact they'll obey Garrosh for fear of being kicked out.

I still say slaughtering Cairne would make Thrall come back in full-force.

Yeah, but I don't think they'd be slaughtering him.

Assassinating makes things easier in this case.

Assassinate him and make it seem like it was the alliance? Two birds with one stone. Cairne is gone. And the peaceful Tauren race just became bloodlusty.


On a cataclysm note, not sure if it's been posted here before but.. goblin animations! They look rather neat and fresh There's also a nifty HD option if you watch it in youtube!

I've actually given Goblin alot of thought and decided to play one.

We don't know enough detail to speculate wether or not it is realistic. For all we know Cairne could have decided to take his own personal bodyguard, go into Garrosh's throne room and just attacked him without any prior warning. I guarantee the tauren would be more confused, angry and disappointed in Cairne than in Garrosh if that was the case.

Also, much like Thrall among the orcs. I think that Cairne's popularity among the Tauren might be a tad exaggerated among the playerbase. We do know that the grimtotem for instance do not like him and that they're very influential among the tauren (hinting that there's more tribes who are neutral at best to Cairne and the bloodhoof). For all we know, Baine himself could be one of the minds behind the execution (if there indeed was one) as well.

That said... I find it far more likely that Cairne was taken by old age (because the man is literally ancient. He was extremely old in wc3, almost crippled by his age in frozen throne and have pursued a policy of compromise, stability and solitude ever since. Typical of rulers in their final years) or by the cataclysm (possible when saving those children in the concept art). That he died a ruler or a hero.

Mostly because... if he died a traitor... why would he be allowed a formal and celebrated burial?

To show the players that he died visually. It's more about game design in that case, I'd say.
