Derailing threads and locking
Yeah, seriously.
Why does every thread that so much as mentions "helping", "inactivity", or any other key words that make certain people lose their shit, get mercilessly filled with a) self-righteous, pretentious posts insisting that if you spend your time in WoW trying to help new RPers you're CLEARLY doing it wrong and that since certain posters don't want to do anything THE THREAD IS BAD AND YOU'RE WHINING and b) irrelevant bullshit entirely unrelated to the thread as people intentionally post stuff to prevent any chance at getting the thread back on the intended track?
If you think a thread is bad and serves no purpose why continue to fucking whine about that for page after page? I don't click a topic that I find uninteresting/unconstructive/whatever else just to post what a retarded thread it is.
And locking every time is retarded. Why not just delete all the bad posts? Any thread like that will either be drowned out in bullshit or locked, THAT is why it never leads anywhere.
Edit: This is a serious question, I'm not whining. Pls don't lock.

Re: Derailing threads and locking
This is what happens.
There are always two different opinions.
Then they turn into two conflicting opinions.
Then it turns into a battlefield.
Then it turns into the Avengers vs The Justice League.
Derailing is subjective.
That thread couldn't continue because you and Vaell have such aggressive forms of writing. Even this thread sounds like a "@@@DSFDFDF##!!" thread, whether you mean it to or not. You are WAY too defensive.
You are my friend and you know it but I do believe you have the major flaw of someone who "always needs a cause to fight." Whether it be your own or someone elses and this will always be your downfall.

Woah, don't blame me! The thread was closed because we've had more of those threads than the Simpsons has had Homer say 'Doh!'

Not throwing blame. Just trying to make y'all both aware about your writing styles. (Although I think Vaell knows and is IRL less serious than his posts make him sound).

Shouldn't this be in the "deafiasRP forum" subforum instead of the game related subforum?

Yeah, I tend to type a lot more aggressively than I actually say it. I'm from southern England; it's just part of our way of speaking! I don't really type as if I am creating an essay, more how I would say it IRL so I do get that it comes across a bit dickish.Arabella Greene wrote:Not throwing blame. It's just... these threads are the boring ones and I like to spice them up!

Re: Derailing threads and locking
Wait, another thread? Lovely. I bet two pages until zhe derailing begins.
Well, I think there is a pretty good reason for locking threads, and you have mentioned it yourself, derailing.
Why does people derail? Either because they think the thread is useless, or the previous posts are useless. But then again, please define derailing.

Re: Derailing threads and locking
Why is Derailing so bad, it is good to let the thread go where it needs to, otherwise you have just replies to the original post. I mean the alternative is to make a new thread every time you want to make a post relating to the subject but which is not of the original topic.
Why get uptight because a discussion matures? OR WHEN PEOPLE USE CAPS? Never understood how the hell that could offend people in a place where calling people mentally handicaped is the norm. Also the "your" thing, everyone knows what they man, there has never been a charge of the light brigade disaster due to the miss use of "your".
Mostly people act like dicks until they realise that they are losing rep due to acting like dicks so they call for a lock. In the game of threads one can not simply lose rep so it must be stopped.

Locking isn't ever the first solution. But it's something we do usually when the thread in question: has been requested to be locked (usually by the OP but sometimes by others); is so full of shite that deletion of individual posts is pointless/lengthy; was from the start just a silly, stupid or "previously warned/discussed" thread; or is against the forum rules.
As to your first question. People don't agree with you. You don't agree with people. These people don't agree with each other. They have interests and opinions and they voice them. You do the same. That's normal. A difference of opinion doesn't mean someone else is specifically "wrong" and someone else "right". Some people fail at communicating. Some people can't articulate well in writing. Some people are just bull-headed and vocal. That's why threads (especially or specifically ones which seemingly appear on a cyclical basis) are often jumped on quickly.
It'd probably help a lot if people spent a second looking at the Preview button before posting. And, if they think "maybe I have read a post like this before" they spent a few seconds using the Search... function just to check, and look for answers in previous similar posts, or (in some cases) used existing similar posts to (re)discuss matters.
And yes, this should be elsewhere. Hence it's been moved.
