Your faces always come across as extremely flat. Perhaps it's just your character having a generally flat face, but regardless, the shading on the faces in general could use improvement.
Beyond that, it'd a nice piece.
Haha pretty much xD *comforts erwtenpeller*
But thanks! I might try and make something more detailed for actually showing some time.

I think we would all like that very much.
Not that I'm one to speak, all I do is draw cartoons.

I'd be excited to see that.
You really managed to capture the mood of it with the raven and the work on the background, I think.
I would find stuff to complain about, but I can't even draw myself.

The problem isn't really manga. The problem is people learning how to draw by copying manga rather the reality, and thereby entering artistry with a false and very predetermined set of observations. You learn much faster, and become much better by starting the study of reality, and then applying stylistic elements to what you've learned.
I didn't do this. I learned drawing by copying Akira Toriyama (Dragonball), Andre Franquin (Marsipulami, Gaston) and Sam Didier (lots of iconic blizzard imagery). And it shows. I have a very limited range to my work, and only started experimenting and expanding more at a relatively late stage, when these influences where already firmly etched into my hands.
More recently I've found myself influenced a lot by Butch Hartman (Fairly Odd Parents) and Stephen Silver (Kim Possible). And that shows too.

That...
...actually makes a lot of sense. Huh. Never thought of it that way, but it sounds about right!

I just think most of you guys have more style, what i draw is so bland and dull in style, like it's nothing special. Can easily tell who you guys are though.

This is exactly what I teach kids in my classes. Many of them have this strong manga influence but all I see when they draw is someone elses work. Therefore I often try to make these students look abit more till different artist and, most importently, have still life sessions with a human model. Thats the way I got out of only drawing cartoony characters. Study of the real human body and shapes. Now I want to list my influences for these catroony things I make: French cartoonists Boulet and Jacques Tardi (This is my childhood who I jus re-descovered), Bryan O'Malley (Creator of Scott Pilgrim), Jeffrey Brown and a WHOOOOLE lotta Adventure Time.

YES! You sir, are doing an excellent teaching job. I don't sketch live models often, but after I've done a session I always feel like my skills have been boosted. Yeees! Adventure time made me addicted to spaghetti arms even more then I already was. I'm thinking about setting a week aside for reseach with my animator to see if we can replicate spaghetti arm animations in flash games.Helmut wrote:Now I want to list my influences for these catroony things I make: French cartoonists Boulet and Jacques Tardi (This is my childhood who I jus re-descovered), Bryan O'Malley (Creator of Scott Pilgrim), Jeffrey Brown and a WHOOOOLE lotta Adventure Time.

Don't stress it, style comes through practice and influences. When I was in uni studying illustration there was a massive pressure on AMG FIND A STYLE OR PERISH. But it's really more of a personal, long-term thing, I forced myself into a corner and wish I hadn't because I'm now looking back into painting and rendering shade in different ways and having to relearn ways of looking. Some people naturally find a niche and specialise in it, but that should be the journey, or the eventual destination, not the starting point!
Sort of links into the whole manga debate. A lot of the manga tutorials etc focus on copying shapes, rather than learning how to depict form and mass. You can always tell when someone's copying lines- thickness, etc- rather than understanding how variations of line weight depict weight, or mass, or light/dark.

Nightmare to the left, Battlecry to the right. Undead risen mounts of Sanine and Lightwielder of the Black Hand.
This is more a doodle then anything else. The lines took an hour and colouring 5 minutes top, so nothing fancy or time consuming.
On the subject of manga. I began with drawing 4-years old style Disney, went to manga, then to more realism. Now my style change according to my mood and what have influenced me lately.

The eyes on that troll <3 great expression
Life drawing is the single most useful learning tool for an artist I reckon. Even though I remember half the class dying of embarrassment, being too embarrassed to draw certain bits (they were always scrawny little old men somehow, but still!)

very true!
But you can imagine my amusement at classmates that would just flail their arm out drawing... that, scarce looking at the paper. The models must have felt impressive looking around after!
