Stuff about the forum

Yo!

Got two things to ask for opinions on:

First of all, removing the ads costs 17.82 euro, but it also stops Blizzard from QQing and practically guarantees a sticky. Would people be willing to donate? Between all the people who visit the forum, let's say, 34 on average, it's 50 cents each. So not a lot to ask for really, and that's annually!

Secondly, what do people think of the setup of the forum, I mean, if you check out some other forums, improvements sure can be made or suggestions to improve. Personally I think it still does feel a bit clustered and inflexible, sections can be added to loosen it up a bit and specify certain things etc.

So, are there any suggestions to the layout of the forum?

As discussed with Wulfgnar, I'd like to put forward an idea for an art section.

Like a story section, except with art. Simple.

You apply for your own forum type thing and post your artwork with it, or make your own thread within a sub-forum.

Made sense to me anyway and easier to sift through than 65 odd pages.

Like with general stories, one could click onto a tab that has Weapons/Items/Artifacts. It would allow a seperate topic for each one and therefore allow people to discuss each one, as opposed to a single messy thread.

Though, where would people prefer to see the section? A third sub-forum in game related (sub-forums seem to be something a few people detest, though I'm not quite sure why) or given it's own section entirely? I think the latter might be a bit far, given that not everyone will be making their own weapons.

It is Alorah's idea so I can't say for certain. Personally, I'd put it into game related in its own sub-section, I'm not sure if I'm using the right term but...

In the same way you click on General Stories and it opens up a page with 3 stickies (For 'IC weapons' you can have a template/example) and then a list of the stories. If it can have its own section like that with all the names of the items in their own topics, that'd probably be the easiest to use.

Yeah pretty much, the way I see it is similar to the library sub-forum, template above, along with the explanation of what to write what not to write etc. I think I might do away with the vouches on it though, since Raenmar and Drustai suggested just to give your opinion if you're oh-so-offended by something someone posts. I think everyone can be fairly happy with that, rather than mentioning the word vouch and everyone simultaneously runs screaming and shitting themselves. People will probably just RP with their items anyway regardless of vouches.

As I said, with a neater layout that allows for simpler navigation it can work.

I for one have no problem in scrolling down once or twice to see the rest of the forum for example. I feel that some things deserve their own forum entirely and that there should be sub-sections.

I'm confused, what is wrong with the current layout? It is really simple to navigate, the only awkward thing is the Guild Forums.

There are emerging sub forums that will make it more difficult to navigate.

In the short term, fine, it's okay. We're thinking in the long-term, the forum comes across as obsolete.

A larger layout with more space and stuff will be better in the long run, with more space to add things as well.

We're expanding as the amount of people actively visiting DefiasRP grows. The forum I take a lot of inspiration from is this:

I agree with Vangrel. I'd much rather have category divisions rather than this subforum craze we have going on right now.

Subforums are nice at times but it's a lot nicer to have everythign viewable right from the get-go, and just dividing things by category header instead.
