Euhm... isn't the heatsink just a big hump of metal? how the fuck does that get broken? It doesn't... (it will only help if you put a bigger one on it, but you'll be better off just getting a more powerful fan.)

Most heatsinks have a fan on top to help the circulation. That can get broken. Additionally, the thermal paste needs replacing after a few years (and if you ever take the heatsink off, the paste will need replacing).

So the heatsink itself can't really get broken (though it can get very dusty), but all the other stuff around it can.

New episode of drama with the stupid new roomie upstairs!

Around dinnertime, I hear someone knock at the front door and our landlady lets them in...

Two cops and a pair of paramedics!

They go all the way to the third floor, where the new girl's room is, and I manage to hear little snippets of conversation where she starts getting pissed off but I don't understand what she's saying. My other roomie (very nice guy) also lives on the third floor and he was taking a nap but got woken up by this.

So once the cops and paramedics leave, he and I go downstairs and sit with our landlord and landlady while he tells us what he overheard.

Seems the POOR GIRL got some money today, went and bought cigarettes somehow (she's underage) and then went for a very expensive haircut and color. She got charged up the wazoo apparently and was PISSED because they didn't do it the way she wanted.

So when she got home, she went straight to Facebook, stated that she hates her hair and she was going to kill herself because of it.

Yeah. Kill herself. Because she didn't like her hair.

So someone on her Facebook called the cops and they brought the paramedics, in case they had to revive her or something. Of course, she hadn't done a single thing to herself (though we all suspect she cuts, mostly because she threatens to do it all the time). And before he left, the cop told her that a haircut can be fixed.

And just a little while ago (around midnight ro so), she was up and banging doors! People are trying to sleep, you dumb...anyway...

She needs to go. The upstairs roomie and I are convinced that room is bad luck, we keep getting morons to live there!

(Suicide is a serious thing and I do want to take every case seriously if it comes up, but omfg...waaaay too much drama with this chick. Not sure why the cops wouldn't take her away.)

I could headbutt my Sgt if it wouldn't land me in prison.

Just done a week of Guard duty, meaning 12 hour shifts for a full 7 days. No biggie, easily done, and it's a week away from work. I then get one day off to Rest up, and then get ready for normal work again after my stand-down.

Normally, we work 2 day shifts, then 2 night shifts, then we have 2 off, and repeat.

So, having looked at the manning planner, my night shift cycle ends on the day of my stand-down. Meaning that for 2 days after my stand-down, I've got time off. Great! A 3 day weekend (albeit mid-week)!

So my Sgt in his infinite wisdom sees this, and decides that it's not right that I coincidentally lucked out and managed to get 3 days off, and so has let me keep my mandatory stand-down, and then put me as an extra to someone elses shift during the 2 days I'm meant to be off, only for me to then go onto shift for the next 4 days after that.

Why!? WHY!

Why do you continually do this Sgt!? Making shit judgement calls like this, that you know only fuck over your own men and reduce morale. You're not even a damn technician, you're a glorified overpaid PA for the actual technicians.

Ugh... I want my old technician Sgt back. He would have just let things run normally and let me have my good luck, instead of taking it, and twisting it into bad luck and working more days than I'm supposed to.

Ugh. Had an options evening at school for 6th Form. Spent an hour there, talked to some teachers, and I'm still just as stuck as I was before.

I'm allowed to take 5 A levels, but whether I'll actually be able to do them and won't buckle under the stress is another matter. I can barely do GCSEs and run a guild without regularly exploding. Doesn't help that I'm considering some of the hardest A levels (either maths, further maths and 3 sciences, or English language, maths, further maths, physics and something else).

But now I'm in the really shitty predicament. I'd need chemistry and biology to do medicine at uni, but I want physics as an option too, so I'd need physics and further maths. But I want English just because it's useful. So I guess I need to choose whether to have medicine as an option or not.

Shit, growing up turned out to be nothing like I'd expected it to be. Needing to make such a narrow choice so early is so infuriatingly stupid.

I'll probably need to hand over guild leadership, too. Meh.

If you've got problem balling school and guild running now. Turn over guild leader ship.
I missed up my education at that age. Trust me,you do NOT want to do it.
If you've got trouble picking, sit down with a councellor and talk for even longer. Why's in your pick etc etc.
Do you see yourself in medicin or engineering in uni? Where do you really want to be in those two?

My stepdad's back at the hospital for emergency surgery.. Turns out, it's not just stomach cancer he has, but several really serious blood-clots in his main artery by the heart. One more day, and they could've come loos, leading to his insta-death.

My mum's a nervous wreck, and so am I, to be honest. He's always been there as my stepdad, and even moreso after my real dad died when I was 15. I can't bare the thought of losing him.

So whatever you do or don't believe in, please send him some happy thoughts? He could really really need it at this point. Sad

Seconding Shaelyssa's post. I once experienced my own father having a stroke and know what it feels like to almost lose somebody important in your life, I pray that your stepdad will make it and that he will have a long life ahead of him when he gets out.

I don't know you personally but I figure in times like that any compassion is appreciated, so here, have an internet-hug! *hugs*

Ok first of all, education > WoW!!!! You have to learn to prioritize!!! You can lead a guild and play wow when you're dead, studying and doing well always comes first!!!!!

And why do you want to do 5 A Levels??!? Most people do 4 AS Levels and then drop a subject and do 3 A Levels, some people do four but five a levels? That's useless I think and counter-productive and most med schools only really want AAA at A level so you're better off doing well in 3 than spreading yourself thin across FIVE A levels and then end up getting CCBB or something.

When choosing your subjects, you have to think whether or not you want to study something more science oriented, arts/humanties oriented, or business oriented. I'm guessing if you want to study medicine you want to do something more science oriented, so I wouldn't advise taking English. It's nice to have a range of subjects at A Level but if you want to take math, biology, chemistry AND physics then I wouldn't advise taking english as well really. Taking two or three sciences at A Level basically opens you up to a lot of different degree opportunities really, so if you later decide you don't want to do medicine you have a range of different courses you can fall back on (I definitely recommend it tho :D especially at nottingham go go go go apply here)

Also, perhaps requirements have changed now but when I applied for medicine last year most med schools only wanted chemistry at A Level and biology at AS Level or GCSE (and I think that's only because chemistry is one of the harder a levels - none of what I was taught at a level has helped me so far, maybe just a tiny bit of chemistry but that was it really)

But anyways, stop putting yourself down!!!! if you can do well at GCSEs then you'll definitely do well at A Levels. They're not as stressful as teachers try to make them out to seem. And acknowledging that you dont have the energy or time to lead a guild just goes to show what a good leader you are because you're able to realize when you're not in a good enough position to lead so just pass it on to somebody else and try not to get too attached to the guild just give it up for adoption I say

I'm not sure this piece of advice is correct!

Screw education, you need to run that guild. Medicine? You're curing boredom - which comes first!!!

fuck the guild and fuck studying english

no idea how the British system works but you sound like you're up for decent opportunities, don't waste em

Like you can still keep an interest in english but if you're also considering like maths/physics/medicine etc then do them

So whatever you do or don't believe in, please send him some happy thoughts? He could really really need it at this point

*Hugs from me.* Hope he's okay.

5 A levels is a lot I know. But I'd be allowed to drop one or two whenever I want, so it won't be much of a problem. Worth trying at the very least.

Shae, do you think I could get into med school with A level chemistry and GCSE dual award science? Because I'd avoid biology if I could. I know physics isn't needed, but to be honest, I'd rather be able to do physics at uni than medicine. Medicine is just another option that I'd sort of like to have open in case I change my mind. Which is why I'd like 5 - I'd need the two maths and physics for physics, and I'd need chemistry and biology for medicine (and partly just to see if I actually could handle it). But if I didn't need biology, that would be a lot easier.

And I will vent so as to not derail things too much.

So after a few hard months with a lot of drama, my guild was dead, my feels were all fucked up, I was confused and doubted my own decency as a person, and all because one naive person I'd trusted as a friend was convinced that I was some sort of asshole and in turn convinced me of that. I couldn't work out what I was doing wrong so started thinking I had a disorder or something and that I was just generally a bad person. Put me at one of the lowest points in my life, which seems really petty considering it was people I'd only even talked to through WoW/Skype, but meh. That's how it made me feel.

But the stupid thing is, that wasn't the part that made me so resentful. It was the fact that, even when everyone that had believed him found out he'd lied about all sorts of stupid shit for the months I'd allowed him in my guild, she didn't even bother to tell me, let alone apologize. She didn't say anything. I wouldn't even have found out it was all lies unless someone else had told me, and if I hadn't found out I'd probably still be lying awake every night writing my thoughts and trying to work out what the fuck was happening.

Then whenever I tried to ask her to explain everything just so I could understand things and why everything went so badly, she didn't even acknowledge anything had ever happened. And I was just left with this desire for karma to hit her like a rocket. I hope her guild would go to shit like she'd caused mine to, and that her friends would fuck off like some of mine had (one thing I realized a bit late was that I still had a hell of a lot of good friends that let me QQ to them night after night. So if one good thing came of this, I learned to appreciate them <3 ), etc. And it never did, but I slowly got over it all and stopped caring. And I thought, if she (or the one who started it all) ever came back, I wouldn't care. But I do care, and I feel like I want revenge again, or even just a pathetic apology.

Yeah this is one of those personal things, but it feels a lot better to post it somewhere. And if I didn't post it here I'd end up QQing to people again, which is probably annoying.
