"You don't give me higher pay? I'LL GANK YOU UNTILL YOU UNINSTALL!"
When it comes to me and WoW? I don't fling it around that much. All of my friends, family and relatives knows that I play(ed) WoW. They didn't make a big deal about it. Incase someone asks me if I play or have played, I say 'Yes'. I don't see any reason not to be honest with people. RP is one of those things I don't mention that often though, or make a big deal about. 'Cause when people think WoW, they often think raiding against these massive epic bosses or stressfull PvP with a 90% addon-filled screen. Incase I'd mention that I RP on WoW, people would politely nod and acknowledge it, but in reality just think "wtf is dis RP he speaks of?"

By the way, this is why you don't play wow while you're in a relationship:

Re: WoW And Real Life People
I don't hide the fact I play games, even though I don't... really..
When I play a game, apart from WoW, I do it at a friend or w/e. I myself don't have a console or a windows pc.
I don't really play 'the game' WoW. Most of you might know the fact my highest lvled char ever is 42.. I simply RP.
However, I don't openly talking about RP being a hobby, however I won't lie about it when asked about.

That was an example of where the girlfriend doesn't share your hobby, I believe. So it isn't all that false. Wake up, son.

Re: WoW And Real Life People
I've always been honest about playing video games, I feel like nowadays if someone considers them geeky or childish then they've had their head stuck in a pile of sand since the 90s.
I however do not mention roleplaying to anyone save for my close friends, people just wouldn't understand it.
I often describe my dream job as writing and illustrating my own comic book, I think people however kind of respect me for wanting to tell stories or wanting to explore my imagination.
Why the hell should it ever be a problem?

Re: WoW And Real Life People
Some lovely stereotyping and complete idiocy in this thread.
I've always been a geeky/nerdy type, all the way through school, college and ever since. I've also been pretty popular throughout my life, Captain of the school football team and vice captain of the rugby team as well as being the founder and organiser for the schools Tabletop and DnD club. Some people took the piss, but because I got on with just about everyone by being, well, me, I never had a problem myself. I was also into going out with friends and having a laugh so I have never been seen as a total basement dweller.
At college similar story really, went to the pub lunchtime with my friends who all knew that in the free period later I'd be off doing something geeky or nerdy, they'd gently rib me, but I just laughed it off and since I was still into the same things as them to I never had a problem. Admittedly at that age that was pretty much football, drinking and attempting to pull women, badly.
My working life I've always been known to play geeky stuff, Warhammer, DnD, WoW and other rather nerdy pursuits, fact is no one cares since they like me as a person. I also play guitar and have played in several bands with people, really into football, skiing and just general socialising.
If you live life as a basement dweller, it's not your hobbies people knock in my experience, it's your general life.
