Listen, and listen well: for I have often said that what I am about to say I would only say once. Perhaps this time I shall mean it.

There is no such thing as sarcasm on the internet. Sarcasm is dependant on tone and intonation, and with a hastily scribbled down note you lack both. That is not to say that it is impossible to have sarcasm in written text, but it requires it to either be in a space that is recognized as fictional (characters can be sarcastic), or you need to include some kind of hint that takes over the role of sarcastic tone and intonation. Like smiles. Or winky smiles. Like so:

If you don't include something like that, your sarcasm will always be misinterpeted by at least one person on the internet. It's really quite easy to blame other people if you're misinterpeted: easy and weak. If you are being misinterpeted, that means you weren't clear enough. Trust me, I've seen this happen a million times, and many an argument could have been prevented if only people learned to avoid sarcasm on the internet. And by the distinct lack of smiles and winkyfaces you should be able to tell that I'm being dead serious. Deathly so. Except if I'm somehow being doubly sarcastic, but that would just be plain confusing ()

There is sarcasm on the internet. The problem is that people look at it, without thinking "Oh, gee, is he joking or..?" and just react in a hostile way.

I never or rarely ever use smileys. Because just as you said, they are -silly-. I don't like to use them. It all comes down on how -you- read it. I wasn't being vague, it was you who failed to notice sarcasm, Thelos. That was your own flaw in this matter. Incase you read something that was quite obviously sarcasm (because Draenei in mageweave and Goldshire is stereotypical), and I respond with "It was sarcasm", I don't need half a wall of text to tell me what sarcasm is. Im more than capable of doing that, my friend.

Anyway, moving on. YouTube and "Freedom of Speech" just doesn't work together. Why? Because people gets pissed off when someone expresses their own opinion and that opinion differs from their own.
