They've got five levels to learn their class again. Should be more than enough. Not to mention that they're already familiar with the game so it's not like they're completely new.

If players are thrown straight to 80 they'll just be given a huge bunch of abilities without really having a clue about what they're for. When leveling the players are given the abilities in such an order that a possible rotation or priority system is obvious, and no, 5 levels are not enough for very many players. I will be expecting a whole lot "Help only 3k dps arcane mage" threads now.

You're still referring to players who already played the game. I doubt it will be as bad as you make it sound, though, of course, at level 80 they still have to (re)learn a lot.

You'd be surprised, only 5% of the playerbase has ever been inside a raid (LFR doesn't count). And even then you can just look at the average player that you find hanging around and those that you already meet in LFG and LFR, they're not exactly the best players ever. The people who will actually figure out their class before hitting 85 are a minority. Heck, it can even be those people who we these days see trigger 7k dps that come back, only that they now know even less than before.

So.. I was looking through a Rolex catalog which was given to me. I was expecting high prices. I did not expect a watch costing more than 100k euros. If I was drinking something I would've spat it out.

So all in all this is just about elitism and entitlement. Giving a boost to 80 to people who are coming back won't affect your game in any way. Stop pugging if you're worried about the quality of players.

A bad player coming back will most likely still be bad when he comes back. A good player coming back might be clueless for a little while before picking up the slack. You're just as likely to find a bad player who's been playing for years than you're to find a bad player who just came back.
