I can kiiiiiiinda see why people like Viking/Battle/Yougettheidea Metal aswell. Like that Turisas song linked above, the keyboard was really enjoyable and seemed to give a certain atmosphere/mood etc. Oh and, linked earlier, dunno even know why but I still LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song.
What I don't like about the eh...battle metal is how I get so tired of it after like 1 song ;_;

Re: The music you listen to!
As a Metalhead I find the stupid little sub-genres and those that encourage people to grow these silly little sub-genres very, very tedious. It's just a way for metalheads to play one-upmanship. "I listen to Ultra-death-black-metal-core, and you only listen to extreme-death-black-metal-core, So I am more Metal than you!"
I just listen to anything, if I like it, it's good, if I don't it's bad, what little sub-elitist-genre it fits into means absolutely nothing.

Re: The music you listen to!
There's tons of metal out there. One band can sound extremely different to the next, even within a genre such as death metal. Metal subgenres are convenient for those who download lots of music as they allow you to wade through the vast amounts of metal that may not tickle your fancy, so to speak, and make pinpointing the variety of metal you prefer much, much easier.
To say its just 'one-upmanship' is an incredibly superficial understanding of why there's so many sub-genres of metal (though, they do get ridiculous at times) and one I would expect to hear espoused by somebody who doesn't take much of 'pro-active' approach in their hunt for new music, as they would realize the benefit that a judicious use of 'little sub-genres' serves - i.e allowing me to find the US Atmospheric Black Metal in a record store, rather than being shown all of 2nd wave Norwegian Black Metal because I use a vague, umbrella term like 'black metal'.

Re: The music you listen to!
I've never needed to know 101 sub-genres in order to discover new music, and with over 1TB of music in my collection, at least half of that metal I can't see how anyone else does. If that's the reason you prefer to use and catalogue a myriad of sub-genres then fine I understand your reasoning, never needed it myself, but if it helps you great. Just so long as you don't start using it to show your status as more METUUULLLZZZZ than everyone else (As most sub-genre junkies I've had the dis-pleasure to meet, jam and play music with.)
Usually spouting of sub-genres is followed by said person banging on about how that band is 'scene' or that band is 'sold-out' and other stupid phrases used by Hipsters who usually have the musical knowledge and ability of a tone-deaf, retarded and brain damaged fly. I am assuming you aren't one of those people of course.
But then, I have a very, very wide taste in music and I can listen to something like Ignominous Incarceration followed by Avantasia, followed by Therion, followed by Pink Floyd, followed by Pulp.... Sort of see what I mean. I guess looking into sub-genres doesn't interest me, I like it or I don't.

I'm not saying you need sub-genres to discover new music, I'm saying it makes it easier, but still; over 1TB.. ? Pft, casual.
I have nothing more to add, other than I want to strangle all people that use the phrase 'hipster' as a pejorative with a straight-face.

Demon Hunter is labelled as 'White Metal', which apparently means Christian Metal, and they are Christian because they're all very faithful and their songs are always somehow inspired from Christianity, if I understood right. But eitherway, don't care much for it, it just sounds funny. They're good though!

Not exactly music I listen to, but we (my family) were all in the car today. Dad turns the radio to Classic FM for god knows what reason, and suddenly, THIS comes on.

Tupac is good, probably the best artist that rapped, if you get where I'm coming from (not the best rapper). He's still the tip of an iceberg that gets doper the deeper it goes.
Regardless, Lil Wayne only gets by cause nigga rhymes with nigga.
