[A] <Gnome Science Institute>
The Gnomeregan Institute of Research, Development and Advancement of the Sciences (GIRDAS) is recruiting! Being the science institute that we are, the roleplay opportunities we have to offer are ‘different’. “Different how?” you may wonder. The answer to this is not a simple one, and it shall be elaborated on with examples and ideas for every rank and field, all listed below. The actual definition of these ranks and fields can be found on our wiki:
http://defiaseu.wikia.com/wiki/Gnome_Science_Institute
Ranks
Masters of Craft/Chief Officers
You may wonder, “what do officers get to do that we normal people don’t?”. The answer is, very little. Basically, they would do the same as the others in the field they lord over, just with a little more responsibility, both IC and OOC. You can occasionally ask them if they are secretly planning on some larger event (and in the best cases they’ll answer that yes, they are), but be sure to not start depending on them for your RP!
Students, Professors and Scientists
The things these three ranks do are mostly made up of the field they choose to work in (see below). Furthermore, working together with others cross-field is encouraged. Who knows what marvels can be found in the complex maze that is combined science?
Security
While not directly involved in the actual science, G-sec’s RP can be very varied indeed. Protect frail scientists from harm on dangerous expeditions, train yourself and others in the many ways of combat, or simply stand around the Institute’s barracks looking menacing.
NOTE: requires some kind of battlegear.
Operators
Many are the things one can do that include some kind of manual labour around science. Clean a bucket of used bolts and moan about it every step of the way, or walk around a city carrying a box containing the latest biological experiment – “Do not under any circumstances open this box”. Of course, it would occasionally growl and spread the stench of rotten eggs.
Fields
Engineering
Engineering requires little explanation. Engineers make a lot of ingenious novelties, test those novelties, modify their novelties to become even more ingenious, test them again, and we can only hope they don’t injure themselves or those around them in the process.
Alchemy
Alchemists’ day to day RP may tend to revolve around their laboratories and/or cauldrons, but this field can involve more andventure than you may think. A different kind of RP can involve, say, travelling deep into Forsaken territory to obtain a sample of their newest Blight, in the hope of creating an antidote for it.
Biology
Study life, animals, plants, etc. RP can range from going on safari to the Barrens to observe the behaviour of the majestic zhevra, to digging up corpses for use in anatomical lessons. And people wonder why the biology department has a reputation of being full of madmen…
Archaeology
One of the most adventurous parts of the Institute. While daily RP can include digging up “ancient trogg artifacts” in Dun Morogh, or holding hours of discussions over an amphora, larger events can take us all around the world in search of forgotten ruins and whatnot.
Architecture
While this field may seem like it’s mostly sitting around, talking about buildings, it can be more. Indeed, why sit around and discuss other races’ aesthetics with other gnomes, when you can make long travels to faraway lands to discuss those very aesthetics with the races themselves?
Magikology
Like engineering, this field does not require much explanation. You can easily be inspired by the many examples of magical studies around the world, or simply walk around and confuse people with your plethora of magical terms.
Demonology
Now, I know everyone signing up for this field will want to summon demons in an attempt to enslave them. To help in defeating the Legion, of course, never ever to use them for your own ends *cough*. But aside from that, imagine the look on those biologists’ faces when you counter their zhevra observation stories with your much more dangerous demon-spotting trip!
Netherology
The Nether is perhaps one of the most interesting places to go. Its highly morphic nature and cruel denizens can make travelling there one of the most memorable things a gnome can do. However, many go mad soon after they have entered the Nether. Thus, other things you can do are numerous mental trainings, to ensure you won’t lose your mind!
Meteorology
If you’re feeling rebellious, meteorology gives you an excuse to break the taboo of “talking about the weather”. You can travel far and wide to observe, take notes, sunbathe, and wonder why it must always rain in Gilneas.
Astronomy
Astronomy, too, justifies travels to distant places to observe the starry sky late at night, and finding new means to do so (such as stealing an ogre’s monocle for your telescope, or even breaking into Karazhan). If you feel like staying home, you can endlessly discuss the laws that drive celestial objects. (and occasionally rip off Earth’s astronomers, too!)
Geology
So eccentric that even other gnomes may think you’re weird. Study rocks, talk about rocks… or have the time of your life in Deepholm.
PvP
We are not a military guild, so the usual IC reasons for RP-PvP are absent. However, the creative mind can come up with many science-related incentives to crack some skulls! Whether those pesky goblins at the world-famous Secret Lab stole some of our alchemy recipes, our engineers want to test some new weapons in the field, or our alchemists want to steal some new recipes from the goblins at the world-famous Secret Lab, faction hostilities can be practiced everywhere!

Silly wabbit. Theology isn't a science!

I like this. A lot...
Emeritus Barnabee Bartlebee might honour you with a guest lecture.

Gnomes aren't all that religious, the holy light is just another form of magic!Thelos wrote:No Theology? Then what of the whittle pwiests?
