So glad I'm giving up healing after my four year run as a Holy Paladin. Trying to farm protection off-spec gear and I just finished one of the new heroic dungeons with a tank that had quest green/blue items. Seriously, if you want to roll a healer at end-game make sure you couldn't give a shit what other people think or you'll be in for a hell of a ride.

People ask me why I always try to set up groups of friends instead of pugging. The above is why.

In the end the tank had a dot, ran to me so its AoE effect damaged me and I died. He then waited around for ages making me think he was going to res and then just left. Suffice to say i ignored them all.

I feel your pain, why I am moving to Norway to be with Lilath.
Which vents me onto something further..
Fucking second languages, how do they work?
Though if anyone has any advice to speed up the progression of learning new languages I am all up for it.

Re: The vent thread
If you speak english to norweigans, have them translate it for you to repeat, before they answer you. Especially in your day-to-day life with Lilath.
Worry about pronouncation and vocabulary first, grammar last.

Re: The vent thread
Don't know if it's any help, but I taught myself English by watching English spoken movies (and series) with Dutch subtitles. Maybe watching Norwegian spoken movies (and series) with English subtitles, if possible, might be a good idea.

Re: The vent thread
I've been stressing over grammar I admit while learning this.
The way I have been doing it is having sessions with Lilath everyday where she would teach me new words I would learn upon its pronounciation and vocab but I have started to pick up on it to the point I am starting to slowly try and translate norwegian websites like the bergen news sites as I way to try improve myself.
I'm pretty bad when it comes to thinking up the best educational methods.
Grammar admitedly fucks with my mind sometimes.
I will stick to that idea though, granted my last trip to Norway back in October I didn't have any problem with the people as English is something they are good at anyway, but I am seeing Norwegian as a top priority to be as fluent as possible quick enough due to the obvious reasons and respects towards Norwegians! (Why do you guys got to have such a history with dialects? ;_; )
EDIT: @ Ant.
Could be something to consider. Might help me pick up on the pace of how they speak as they are pretty fast in terms of vocals. How long did it take you to become fluent in English?

Re: The vent thread
Eira, watch tons of norweigan TV without subs. I stress the without subs. (Okay, you can have subs for like a month but more will hinder rather than help).
To find movies or so eaily in norweigan basicly any kids movie works.
As for a vent.
What the fuck is going on in Malmö right now.
Up towards ten people has to have been shot now December - Januari. And the night to today someone blew a bomb up next to a policestation which caused some damage.
What the fuck... Fucking organized crime. Arg!

I've never been good with languages. I've tried Spanish, Japanese, French, and American Sign Language. Dropped out of the last 3, barely managed to finish my Spanish courses. I'm dreading the fact that I need to learn Swedish for my move.
I've got so many other things to worry about, that language on top of that is just... blegh.

Re: The vent thread
I found the best way to learn a language is not to learn it.
That may sound like the most zen shit ever but it's really common sense. No matter how intelligent you are, you will never properly learn a language untill you are forced to use said language in order to get by. This is why my uncle with no higher education whatsoever can speak and read better German than I can simply by having lived in München for over a year. Hell, this is why there is a massive discrepancy between my speaking skills in English and my writing abilities. I've been forced to write in English to communicate over the internet, but always trough text, never trough speech, so if any of you would ever meet me in reality you might be horrified by my überthick accent.
So yeah. Dont worry too much about that, it'll solve itself.
Promise.

I think I was pretty fluent by age 8-10, started doing it at age 6-7 at the latest, I think (probably from the moment I was capable of reading). Maybe these years are off by one or two. My vocabulary wasn't the same as it is now, mind you, but the grammar had been established along with most day to day words. I think I remember meeting an American at age 9/10 and being able to talk to him without any problems at all, so yeah, it went pretty rapidly I think, but I have to add that I have a thing for languages.
The ages might also be a bit off, but not by much. I can assure you however, that I started learning English in school at age 8-9 and never had any problems with it whatsoever. So the ages aren't far off.
Having said that, I think my spelling came from gaming, but I can't be sure where I picked that up.
Learning a new language takes time though, so you need to be patient.
Also, you might want to use post its. It's going to look very silly but I think it might work. Write both the Norwegian word and the English word on the post it you place on the object. Then every time you use the object, say the fridge, you read it. It's probably an easy way to learn the words for a lot of household items.
Edit: Thelos has perhaps the best point, but I think it can be helped by trying to learn and asking which word you need to use for it. I did that in France this summer (and my French is absolutely horrible) and I noticed my capability to speak French improve daily. Note though that I was not a blank slate, I had already had French classes for 3 years (though my last class was also 3 years in the past). But he's right. You're going to learn it simply because you have to.
