Post by Samian/Bismack Fri Jan 06, 2012 6:17 pm

tbh I'm getting a bit sick and tired of this, not because of the subject but because of the accusations thrown about:
-Endless whine about people not getting their trial (We cant trial everyone that does something bad, infact only in the last 5-6 months did trials actively started getting used again)
-Braidens Magistrate system has 1(!) magistrate. I've already pointed out ICly that the kingdom lacks magistrates. (I've pointed that out about 394309349345 times)
-Calling amnesty international, we do not live in 2012. We live in THE WORLD OF WARcraft yet apparently people can somehow motivate their characters to go on about screaming and death for weeks.

I'm tired of all these OOC motivations involving my roleplay to a DRASTIC extend. This better go somewhere.

The way it has turned is also my fault due to my bloody powercut last night, I do apologise.

I agree with you Samian. There needs to be a higher involvement of Magistrate role-play if we're going to role-play the need for fair trial.

I think there have been a few people interested in the Magistrate role, which is great, but a possible idea could be to discuss which crimes require a trial event, and which do not.

Perhaps something to discuss at the next council meeting? Smile

Shoved two new potential magistrates Braidens way. With luck we'll get the manpower issue sorted before the tribunals report is published. Smile

Its besides the point. Guards have more things then you can imagine on their hands already, you need to put some blind faith in them both ICly and OOCly or stuff the command center with all your magistrates so we can focus on just bringing in crooks while whoever deals with the punishments.

It will be in the report ic and can be discussed ooc too. As the Law has three standards of crime I would suggest the lowest ones are handled by the guards alone, the medium ones by the guards with some appeal process and the serious ones by trial. It totally needs more magistrates too.

OOC from my time as a guard I have a few house keeping ideas for the law, make it clearer.

IC and OOC I agree that C 20th law and rights is too far yet even in the bad old days their was the idea of trial and judgement. Magistrate is a roman position first.

Jarric has no problems with criminals being hanged, but he wants it done via trial.

Frankly I agree with this, but it is going to take some discussion and reworking, and figuring out how people actually want the law system to work. But uh, yeah, it's pretty dull RP for guards if all they get to do is walk around the city, and while high-profile crimes make for good trials, robbery and such make for boring ones. Some of it's about 'fairness' yes, but some of it is also about what makes good RP.

In a perfect world we'd get all the serious crooks up for trial but it is VERY VERY VERY unrealistic. And takes a TON of effort from the guard's end, all of this is quite frankly an unfair subject to be dealt with in character yet I'm getting endless heaps of shit flung my way for it.

Managing punishment is enough effort as it is and we NEVER EVER execute without the person we are dealing with agree's with it OOCly

Trials weren't set as mandatory for a reason. I went for months with the system up without anyone requesting a trial but now all of a sudden there's an overload of requests. I really don't mind there being a lot of trials but you'll just have to settle with less, as in a Magistrate drops by the command centre and settles bushiness without public trial in low profile cases.
