*cough* World of darkness . But just remember it is a old game and its given us hours of fun and like all things it just end at some point. System and game tech is improving all the time only so much can be done to a older game to vamp it up. So thank you WoW and blizzard its been a good 6 years and possibly a few more. Nothing is taking me away yet but you never know whats going to pop up. I love wow lore and somthing then have done I have disliked but thats never going to change.

I dunno about how many of you actually were -around- for vanilla.. but gearing up for one silly raid, that you would spend months farming, waiting -ages- for your own drop. Isn't what I call fun, or interesting. The heroics and dungeons are far more indepth and easier to reach, and -now- have a heroic option? How many of you -actually- raid?

I used to be a hardcore raiding and played from beta, it was a pain waiting ages for gear but in a way felt more rewarding. But that can grow old I have to admit.

It was all about the journey for me. Maybe your drop didn't come that raid but the raid grew stronger by each raid. As I said I don't know how it nowadays. My lack of endgame is mostly due to time.Annabeth Helmsley wrote:I dunno about how many of you actually were -around- for vanilla.. but gearing up for one silly raid, that you would spend months farming, waiting -ages- for your own drop. I enjoyed getting gear from -difficult- raids.. not having to repeatedly grind a boss, over and over again, every week and the week after that.

People aren't saying Vanilla was "omgwtfawesome!"
Feels more that people miss tBC style rather than vanilla style.
Still, Vanilla grinding wasn't as bad as most say. *Comes from Korean MMOs*

Oh yes, i remember it being hard as hell, but also much more rewarding. But i wouldn't go back to do those 8-houer molten core raids. Maybe just once for nostalgia. I remember when i found my first legendary, Staff of Jordan, in badlands. I was like "I'M RICH LOL!!!!!" sold it for like 200g. Now i find an item that's worth equilevant, its like "Oh, that's cool."

Not that it's our fault to begin with that the " spark " may be missing from the game, but I wonder if we could take steps to get it back? Not old-school raiding or anything like that, but maybe a more community focused drive to form up rated battleground groups? do heroics and possibly even raiding? Even if it means a project, where we all roll a class and race combination we would be interested in trying, or attempt to recruit a few friends into the game?
...I've recruited three IRL friends over the years, done my bit!

Re: Subscribers. You there?
All I care about is RP. The only reasons for me to visit a dungeon is for a character event or to find that one item that looks pretty.
The more casual they make wow, the less time I have to spent away from RP and in dungeons to level a new toon / farm good looking stuff.
I'm super-happy with cataclysm. The old world finally got updated and there's a slew of new class/race combinations, opening up new and interesting story lines.

5 minute single blessings in a 40 man raid, how I miss you
The game hasn't really changed. somethings are easier to access but you're trading personal progress for Anonimity. and its just because people are done with it. its been 7 years. it gets boring. there's just as much grind now as there was in Vanilla and TBC. but now its just easier to find where you need to grind. its more... digestable. not saying its a bad thing, but it did come at a price. and that price is the community. constantly finding new people and interacting with them.
since lets be honest, the people in the random dungeon finder could just aswell be NPCs and we wouldn't care.

Compared to many assholes I've met in random dungeons I'd rather have NPCs. They wouldn't be assholes who got angry when they caused themselves to die.

Re: Subscribers. You there?
I think you misunderstood the term "prestige". I'm probably the last person to glorify vanilla raiding (or any expansion's raiding for that matter), since I have barely ever raided, unless you count the goldDKP runs I did in Wrath in order to gather some cash.Frostfeather wrote:I had played this game for a long time before I even understood the concept of 'endgame'. I loved it because the lack of prestige. That you just logged on and played in this fantastic universe. If only I had understood the RP-concept back then...
So it basically took me nearly 6 months to reach level 60. Hey, it was not that bad back then! pretty average in my guild. Then it was basically people having their own agenda for quite a while. Some farmed BGs, some ran Strat/scholo classruns some farmed gold (mostly grinding mobs), some worked hard on maxing their professions.
Then after an incredible amount of politics we were strong enough to start raiding. I wouldn't call it challenging content wise. Slow dps, decurse, decurse ,decurse, remember one key moment per fight then spam your rotation (mine was frostbolt, frostbolt, frostbolt, rinse and repeat).
I won't argue with the conclusion that the wow community is a less jolly bunch now than it was back then but I can't see endgame mechanics as better back then. It used to be more about working together, keeping consistency than knowing your rotations and minmaxing. I really don't know about the current endgame. I have not sat foot in a raid since 2.4 hit. We worked hard to clear Hyjal pre nerf and I'm still recovering from that I guess.
What have destroyed a lot for me is all the currencies and points. Everything is a daily grind. I prefer to win the lottery over working.
When I'm saying that WoW has lost its prestige, I mean that it's MUCH easier to accomplish anything compared to earlier years. Leveling for example. It used to take people months to reach level 60. There were only that many flight paths to fly around with and thus a lot of running was involved. Gold wasn't that easy to gather either, took quite some time to get a mount, not to mention an epic one. Those small achievements, like hitting level after level or gathering a gold piece after the other, are now popcorn. They happen so fast that no one really bothers noticing them or labeling them as milestones. They are so easy to be had that the only thing that matters is....well, I can't find something that matters anymore xD Hence I said the prestige is gone

Aha!
I understand and agree. (And feel slightly like a tool for misunderstanding so gravely)
