Piracy and buying second hand games is what caused the situation. The buying of second hand games most likely far more than the piracy.
Just check at any GAME store localy and I bet half the games they have on display are used titles, of which GAME gets all the profit developers 0.
Thus came the downloadable content. "If you don't buy the game new, you don't get the full game".
Something I actually to some degree agree with. As long as the content you get at release doesn't cost, having a code for some extra gear, a character, et c. That's not on the disc but ... etc you get the picture! To prevent second hand selling. Fully agree on.

The shit that's creeping up with lots of DLC day one that you pay for. I am really not a fan. But piracy is as bad as paying for it all. Since both are negative in this picture.
Downloading it will just "prove" that you're as bad as the movie industry claims. You want it no matter what... yadayadayada and don't care who you steal from!
Which in turn will make/force developers to try to prevent it even harder. Making the games you do want and actually pay for more annoying with crap.

Seriously, take one guess why Orgin came to exist, a side from EA's wish to get into Valves online sales buck.
It was developed to make sure people didn't play EA's online multiplayer games if they had pirated them without going through what is most likely quite a lot of hassle. Just look at how annoying it is to use BF3 with orgin. Now imagine having to go in and change code if you had an illegal copy to access the multiplayer/etc.

Now, Orgins problem is that it is badly designed and almost as bad piece of software as iTunes. But if enough critizes EA instead of mindlessly consuming and whining on the internet about it, they most likely would have to change.

Just look at the ESA who were very, very, much on the PIPA/SOPA train until half their members or more, and a lot of the gaming community came out publicly and rather rationally telling them they didn't like it.

... I'll stop ranting now.

My point is that game piracy will not change the DLC "issue", and if it will. It'll make it worse.

I played as Lilith too! Also had Mordekai, but Lilith was my favourite. I played my little hunter when I grew tired of killing myself as Elemental Lilith. My phoenix wings effect blew up the canisters I was using as cover a lot.

I think fair play to game for selling second hand games, they're losing a HELL OF A LOT of money atm. Game will soon be a tiny company in a few years because they are not earning profit currently. Over the course of the next 6 months, loads of Game shops are shutting down. Sad, tbh (but they should have changed their strategy a while back)

I don't like Steam as a company, but they're the most efficient out there with the widest variety. Their customer service lets them down. I bought the entire half life pack a couple of years ago, logged onto steam one day and it was missing from my library. They didn't refund me because I didn't have a receipt email from a year and a half before. Depressing stuff

Gonna say this here.
If you have no problem with second hand sold games. You have no right at all to complain about DLC, either payed or the kind that comes with a one time activation key with a new copy.
Since they were introduced against just second hand selling of games.
No, not to fight pirates. Pirates just download the DLC from people who upload it, so they aren't stopped. It's to combat, and PROFIT from the, frankly, huge market of second hand games.

Games are, generally, released once. And for physical copies when they run out of shelf space, that's that. A side from online ordering/copies. Take movies. First a cinematic release, that will stretch on if it's really popular. Then a DVD/BluRAy release. And then ten years down the line it'll be a rerelease of it. Maybe with a polished up picture.
Games don't really get that thing. It's not often a game is just rereleased without any work done. It'd be like releasing Final Fantasy XII in a new box, with brighter colours, yet nothing else really changed.
It'd sell balls.

Crusader Kings II, such a fun game.

Been playing it with a friend of mine, me being Scotland and him being Denmark. It's another great game by Paradox (All hail Paradox), that gives epic lulz when suddenly England fx pops up in the middle of The Holy Roman Empire.

I never complained about DLC, I actually agree with DLC. I buy it, I think that if you want more out of an already very good game, buy the extra bits. If you don't, then don't.
