I rehome animals. Had 13 cats at one point. Take in strays, etc. Nothing gets sent to a shelter. My family was raised with animals, and we take offence at such things.

So then you two can talk cats, one crazy cat lady to another.

Not just cats. Parrots, dogs, lizards, you name it. We had monkeys too.

Kudos to you then, if you have the room/funds to take care of five new cats and look after them for the next 20 years

Unfortunately I know and have met a lot of people who can't be arsed to spay their cats and instead let them breed uncontrollably, eventually finding themselves in a situation where they can't find new homes for the kittens and either end up dumping the cats somewhere or killing them. I snatched 2 girls from my aunt because she turned out to be one of those people. Apparently "no one wants female cats" and it's "better to put them to sleep" instead
If I had a bigger house and more money, I'd adopt more cats (and spay them ofcourse).

Just control the cats instead, i know someone who has cats that only lives indoors and a small closed in thingy outside and theyre very happy, also saves you the misery of seeing your cat being mush on the road.

All my ladies have been dressed. Except Tree, because I just got her from work. I found a litter of kittens in the hay a while ago. It's fine at work, cause if they can't sell a cat, it LOVES roaming the farm. We have miles of fields with plenty of mice! We had to rehome two labs, cause the owners booked them into the kennels and never came back. >.> Assholes.

As for my home, my mum's a pedigree accredited breeder. But we limit our dogs to one litter max per year. Sometimes they don't get any. It depends on if we feel they're ready for another yet.

We get handed stray animals a lot. We just adopted a cairn terrier, where the owners locked her in a shed. She's a lovely little thing. Never barks, and behaves more than our own dogs. x) And cats! My step-dad built the cats equivalent to a birdhouse, where we can leave cat food for any strays that happen by. It;s sheltered, so they can have a nap out of the bad weather. And we get the neighbours cats over too! XD

Except those hairless Mexican ones. Eww.

Sfinx cats are perhaps no lookers, but they are very affectionate. My friend has two of them and it surprised me they aren't creepy to pet either; their skin is warm and soft, just with very short hair. Perfect for cat lovers with allergy.

Tell me about it, Kris. At least you don't have to put up with neighbors laying poisonous food traps for the cats all over the place. My parents had 9 cats and 3 dogs get poisoned and die within 15 years. No pet ever made it for longer than 2 years alive. And that on the countryside. Best way to deal with stray animals anyone? Kill the ones who belong to someone, yet aren't exclusively house pets only too!

Best part is that we sometimes even know who did it, but can't do shit about it, since there are barely any animal protection laws or anyone who would give a rat's ass about it over here. That's why I taught the cats I have now to never wander too far outside my property, which is big enough for them to be outside without getting driven over/poisoned. They're also somewhat picky with what they eat, so they won't touch any random food, which could turn out to be one of the mentioned traps. They have broken all records in terms of longevity, they are now almost 6 years old.

We had a neighbour who used to throw buckets of water over our cats if he saw one cross his garden. >.> He got in trouble with the police. He did it to the neighbours pets too.

throwing water on your own property is a problem that gets you in touch with the police?

its not rat poison, its not a bloody shotgun.

Nothing wrong with throwing a bucket of cold water over a cat that won't leave YOUR garden alone, in my opinion. And this is coming from someone who likes cats, but can't have one My dad hated them shitting in his garden all the time. Luckily now instead of scaring them off he started growing a type of plant they don't like the smell of, so they leave the place alone.

Because it's cheaper to take a male cat and never have to worry about unwanted kittens. Spaying a female cat costs twice as much as spaying a male cat.
Not to mention people on the countryside treat cats like trash. If they break or get lost, they don't try to fix or find them, instead they just get a new one for free.

My girls are spayed even though they're both indoor cats, just because I can't be sure that they will never try to escape. On comparison, I'm poorer than most people I know who have complained that they can't afford to spay their cats, but I guess those people found their alcohol and cigarettes more necessary than caring for their pet. :/

A lot of people who "Don't have a lot of money" Would have considerably more if they stopped smoking and drank less things with alcohol.
