Re: World of Darkness MMO
Indeed, Flumi. Had there been more info and such out, then yes. But they haven't even had the time to properly hype it in 2012. And I -really- don't want them to rush it, and make a halfarsed project, as it has sooo much potential. So crossing my fingers for 2013. ^^

Hehe I love reading your posts, Flumi. .P They're as enthusiastic as I feel about this game. xD
As for planned chars, yes. I have a few...
I'll definitely be making a Tzimisce. And a Lasombra. And a Giovanni/Cappadocian (depending on whether we're before or after the rebellion.) And a ventrue.. And I might aswell just make it all, tbh. xD
And yes, Gruuf! I want changeling too!!!! The Pen and Paper RPG for Changeling is -awesome-

Re: World of Darkness MMO
Hehe my enthusiastic nature is just like my goblin char in wow XD .Yeah I really love white wolf and this game is somthing i been waiting for a long time. Tzimisce is my second clan im going right for. What my chars goals are going to be im not sure yet. Going to have to plan them soon. I wouldn't be surpised to changeling which would bring more people in again I belive. The perm death option I been hearing leads me to belive that chars can become extremely powerful due to the fact they can die and a group of vampire or hunter can chase them down and kill them or have their very potent vita.
would should make a ghoul family as well XD

O.o hrmm.. Hopefully you'll be able to "save" your char at some point though..? Atleast I hope so. I tend to die. A lot. xD
But yes, ghoul families are a must!
As for goals and such, I really can't say yet. I'll have to get a good look at the game first.

Re: World of Darkness MMO
From what I heard it will be a option to players, but as I said gianin alot of power would be a benefit in my eyes and make it very tempting. RP wise it would be good, for a really evil char I would do it. But not my malk cause I won't want to lose him

Hehe I highly agree! We should build an alliance. *sagenod*
By the sound of it though, it's a kind of game you don't want to play alone. I do like that, but I also enjoy being able to quest on my own without being afraid of perma-dying all the time..
I'll hide away in the Carpathian mountains and kill bears and boars until I get superawesome though! Muahaha..ah.. ehm.. Eheh.. *whistles innocently*

Alliance sounds good. My crazy malk will give you the future in a nice riddle im sure solo play will be viable as well. Can just picture one day being in the city when this super charged vamp turns up from the mountians with bear pelts and just blood boiling every one D= DOOMS day!
We shall call this alliance "Flumiwick Brotherhood" *sage nod*

Re: World of Darkness MMO
I also love White Wolfs WoD work. But I'm just so bloody tired that whenever you just whisper World of Darkness EVERYONE and their mother basicly comes out yelling "VAMPIRE THE MASQURADE! AAAARRGH!"
...
Seriously, almost as bad as Portal fans going on about the cake. =P
I'm just sort a sick that so many WoD players seem so grossly unintressed in the rest.
Personally I won't even touch the game if it's only vampires and humans(Hunters) in it and they skip the other bigger paths. Sure, I would personally prefeer it being based off nWoD, but I can see quite a few reasons behind going with oWoD since there is far more old story to base a game behind since the plot is far "harder" than it seem's to be in the new.
I'm also darn intresed in seeing how they will handle ballance issues.

Re: World of Darkness MMO
Urgh.. NWoD.. That one makes me cringe.. I've been a fan of OWoD for as long as I can remember though. I used to sit with my big brothers and their friends when I was a kid, looking at them playing. Then as I started getting older (about 8 or 9) they'd let me join in the fun. Usually as a ghoul or something that didn't really matter. Just so I could participate.
This game is sort of a "full circle" for me, and I am -really- looking forward to it. I've played all the old games, both on PC and Playstation, but this... I have a feeling, will be the grand finale, so to speak. ^__^
I do hope they pull in elements from the other games aswell, but let's face it, nothing else has the depth and richness of lore that the Vampires have. (Speaking about OWoD here, as NWoD can't even come close to compairing.)
Balance will indeed be interesting... Looking forward to seeing them solve that riddle. Especially if they pull in other "factions" than vampires. Everyone has their opponents, their nemesis, and everyone has a weakness and a strength against said enemy.

To be fair though, nWoD only has 6 years worth of background to oWoDs... 15? (though nWoD is getting there. It has some respectable stuff now. Even an entire requiem setting in imperial Rome! )
And also, don't mistake background for depth. To compare, oWoD has about 4 main political organisations as I understand, and in some areas not even that.
Your average nWoD vampire city has minimum 6, but usually about 12 political organisations (really fleshed out settings can without even adding anything easily flesh out 30 or so factions... not coounting coteries)... and that's not even accounting for every clan variant or subdivisions of the covenants (The various coils of the Ordo Dracul for instance, don't quite get along very well). Not to mention that while oWoD has about a dozen clans... nWoD has over 200 bloodlines as we speak. In nWoD... the factions hate each others... but have to work together in a tense political situations.
There's other variations as well... oWoD has it's metaplot. But nWoD's background is characterised by that the only ones that do remember, the old vampires, have forgotten or have mixed it up so much with their own paranoid nightmares that they don't know what's true anymore. This means that a lot less is set in place and vampires are frequently trying to abuse each other's memories.
The powerstructure is also different. In oWoD the world is essentially run on ancient conspiracies and by elder horrors. In nWoD the elders have to rely on their childer to keep watch as they sleep (for centuries!). They have to pass everything on to their childer and hope they remain loyal to them. It's a very different premise.
I once read that oWoD vampire is determined by the big movers and shakers and treading carefully and fearing the really old horrors you've heard of. Whereas nWoD vampire is all about the personal. The world is dangerous... but the greatest thing to fear is your own weakness and nature (yes, this is in oWoD too... it has much greater emphasis in nWoD though).
oWoD is by no means shallow. Nor is nWoD. They're vastly different games. I'd say both are good, even if I prefer the latter myself. But nWoD's lack of a metaplot does not make it less fleshed out. Just different.

I do like Nwod clan variant's and that you are able to make new ones. I don't know alot about it to be honest mostly oWoD. But I'm reading up since from what I've seen here it also has alot to offer. As stated before it still very early other creatures may be playable as well who knows. There is also meant to be elements of NWoD in it as well, what those elements are is unknown at the moment.

Hmm it seems I've missed out on quite a bit then, in regards to NWoD. I played a few sessions when it just came out, and tried again a few years later, but blargh. It could be that I was unlucky with the Storyteller, but it really didn't catch on for me. Then again, I have the same think with 4th edition Dungeons&Dragons... Could be that I'm just a traditionalist that hates evolution

Nah. 4th edition is just complete shit. <.< oWoD vs nWoD can be a reasonable debate, but 4th ed DnD does not compare at all to 3.5.

CCP would know there is fans in both oWoD and nWoD so I can picture them trying to apeal to both. Hopfully they will cause I don't want people to miss out I need lots of people to Diablerie. >=)

Re: World of Darkness MMO
Still, I have to say this.
I am extremly happy it's CCP doing the game. Since they are the only company with a true Sandbox MMO on the market. And non sandbox doesn't really fit WoD. (At least not fans of WoD).
Other companies are far to likely to follow a more "standard" MMO structure. Since looking at the market they have a bigger market section.
Flumi, you might have something there about that they might apeal to both.
PS: On the whole 4ed D&D issue... personally I enjoy 4th a bit since it's better ballanced between the classes, while I find 3.5 to be just boring and unballanced for anyone who knows the thirt things about how to munchkin. Still, wouldn't call myself a fan of the series at all and play almost any Pen and Paper system before D&D if I want any serious roleplaying done.

Re: World of Darkness MMO
Muz the hit the hammer on the nail there WoD needs to be a sandbox and CCP are pros at doing so. The idea i've heard so far are already out of the MMO norm which I love and this is the early stage so I'm hoping for alot more. I just pray that these great ideas dont get dumped later in development. With whitewolf under their wing they know what the people want So I would expect all of the amazing features of both old and new to be mixed to a extent. How I'm not sure but i'm sure they got a rough idea. Still need to link the info I found so far.
I will try and do so tonight and see if I can find anything else.
On a side note I wonder what flesh crafting will be like :O or if it will only affect tizimce chars at the char creation screen, I hope not be great to keep changing your apearance as you char develops.

New WoD MMO info from The Grand Masquerade UPDATED
Donovan and I were at the 2p MMO conference here at TGM. CCP Producer Chris and others were present and we got lots of new info. Before I start let me preface, the game is still in pre-production, they were very clear NOTHING is set in stone, as things stated today may still change. But as of now the facts listed below are the current stances of the direction of the game.
Eddy Webb mentioned in the Q&A before the MMO panel 'EVE is player vs player fucking each other. That is the kind of games CCP makes' - Very interesting and telling IMO.
The producers stated their philosophy in making this MMO was "human interaction". They feel that is limited in the current crop of MMO's and their biggest weakness.
They are trying to emulate the feel of LARPing more then EVE or any other game system with this MMO
There will be a general CCP run metaplot that develops over time but the main metaplots will be left for the players to drive forward.
Next year is when more specific info and details will come out
Incarna is actually considered a prototype, the rendering engine that will ship with the MMO will be much more advanced.
Everyone starts as a mortal, becoming kindred is optional and can not be forced on you. You can play he entire game as a mortal only.
There will be final death for both mortals and kindred.
PvP will be more limited in some ways, yet more open in others then any other current MMO.
There will be cities (plural) and communication between them (the various kindred and clans) will be encouraged/possible.
Caitiff will NOT be in on release. They discussed it internally and couldn't find a way to make them work in a way they liked.
Casual players will find the game accessible but hard core players will have a much deeper experience and more rewards/benefits.
Considering some kind of web site access interface for the MMO
NO day/night cycle, only night.
Humanity is a stat is game and one use is to address griefers. The more you cause issues for other players, break the masq, etc the more you can loose humanity and once it gets too low other players (and NPCs?) can attack you (implied even if you flag yourself non-pvp).
Griefers will suffer both in game and if serious enough out of game penalties (ie account banning)
Helps to make friends and not enemies in game as you can not get to the top of the food chain without networking and having friends to assist you.
Players will have havens.
Players can climb the ladder and get to Prince levels of power and run a city
Can get to Prince level power without killing a single thing, all done via networking, politics and friendships
ONLY kindred on release of game, no were's, mages, etc. However those other supernaturals may be used in a NPC fashion or/and their lore appear in game.
MMO character sheet very similar to the V:tM PnP character sheet.
Character names over the avatars head by default turned off, but can turn them on.
Game world/environment will change over time; real in game consequences for player actions.
Diablerie and related game mechanics from the PnP game is "under heavy discussion" no decision as of now.
Dynamic NPC missions/World events
One world server, no shards/instancing.
Torpor in game but not used as in PnP game, used as a mechanic to explain why a kindred did not die/final death
They are aware the WoD is a adult setting and the devs are going to not shy away from gore, blood and nudity. However such will have a reason and not adult content for the sake of adult content.
Seemed to imply your personal haven is where its open season, as gratuitous as you wish, full nudity for example.
Public nudity (by players) will be limited to prevent griefers and non-RPers from breaking immersion.
Hinted consensual PvP fight to the (final) death will be a feature between players.
CCP Chris said in his opinion SW:ToR isn't a MMO, it is a SP game that has a MP element as the game isn't player driven.
To go up the food chain you NEED support from other players, impossible to do it alone.
The different cities will be different sizes (and I assume looks as well)
Using software called Cerberus for real time translation in game via text chatting. CCP Chris said 5 languages (didn't state which however) on release.
