I think people expect too much from a goofy video game adaptation novel. It's Warcraft on paper, not Dickens! XD

As far as I understood from reading.
The Horde gets further into Ashenvale but not entirely gaining the zone, but still gaining more than what is now.
Obviously still "losing" their conquest. By having to retreat from final win.
So to speak....
Oh and please kill Varian.
Oh and, Garrosh might be doing some real nasty, awesome war stuff. But his thoughts? Truly? Is he that dumb? Atleast make him think about something else.
Thrall proud.. lol..

As far as I read this is just the events of Cataclysm explained in a more detailed way.

Re: Wolfheart spoilers
Eh... I'm of mixed opinions of that plot summary.
The motivations for Garrosh and Maiev seems decent, especially Maiev. Finally we're getting back some of that Night Elf radicalism we all love. And Garrosh well... it wasn't anything new that he just wants to make dad proud and does whatever it takes "for the good of the orcs", he's overly aggressive, short sighted and plain deluded... but that's what I like about him.
And using proto-drakes and magnataurs? Sure... don't see it being that much of an edge... but why not?
The roster for the meeting confuses me. Archmage Tervosh from Theramore (shouldn't it be Jaina?) and Falstad and a dark iron/wildhammer dwarf (so no rep from Bronzebeard?). And I don't see what Pained has to do with anything...
Not to keen on Varian being the avatar of the wolf demigod... the only thing remotely interesting about that plot is the irony that a human and not an orc or night elf gets the "honour". It demeans him as a character I think... rather than being antagonistic for sensible reasons... he's being angry because a god touched him... just as bad as twilight madness in my meaning...
Speaking of which... I cannot reiterate my dislike of the archbishop being a villain... that Anduin can sense this is not making me happier about it.
As mentioned, Maiev being a villain and leader for radical xenophobic night elves? I like it. The only thing that would be better was if she wasn't a villain (in other words: Give me Staghelm back as supporting faction leader!).
Yay! Tyrande fights again! *happy* Ok, sure... she gets shot. But such is war. Important part is... finally she's not hiding behind that husband of hers...
Again, Garrosh I think... has the best character motivation of all warcraft protagonists currently... deluded as he is.
As for Genn's and Varian's fighting and subsequent making up... not a fan. See above. I can understand Anduin being a bit bitter about Genn refusing to help rebuild Azeroth. That's fine. But he really should be smarter than that. And again... the wolf thingy is not making anything better.
Glorified epic combat - Not surprised. Not interested.
Oh... and Male sentinels
...What?
No!

I expect her to be captured by Bowser in two books from now.

In two words, Knaak should be fired from Blizzard and his license taken just like from Dragonlance.

QFT.
I've come to expect this silliness really. Each new release seems to have a single/couple of decent things and the rest just makes my face ache.

I atleast like the direction of the new books. I haven't read any since the Arthas one but the only two I remember distinctly where the last guardian and the war of the ancients trilogy. They now atleast tie in with the game nicely. I think we're past the telling of old stories and now up to the stage of progression. A lot of us know the lore up to this point so I'm all for continueing and adding to it, furthering the present day.

Re: Wolfheart spoilers
Hm. So Garrosh has shipped proto drakes and magnateurs over? Proto drakes who are revealed to be related to the Red Dragonflight in a Icecrown qeust, and try to scorch anything not a dragon. Through they could be enslaved by the Horde but that still sounds unbelievable in my ears. And Magnateurs who smash everything that isn't a fellow magnateur or a kobold worshipping him? Suuuuuuuuure.
A tad sad about Maiev being a villian. Good reason to be one, but still.

This here is a perfect example I say RiP the Warcraft lore that was before The Frozen Throne was released. If not even before WC3 in full.

Has everyone forgotten she -was- a villain?! All this, "Why is she a villain" nonsense really makes you wonder if people forgot the whole consumed by vengeance, murdering everything in her way..

Re: Wolfheart spoilers
I wouldn't have defined her as a villain prior to this. A loose, uncontrollable trigger if anything. That's why a lot of people liked her I reckon.
Re: Wolfheart spoilers

... Since when?
Maiev was never a villain, she was an Anti-Hero, trying to bring a mass-murdering demon halfbreed monster to justice - or did you forget about Illidan summoning the Naga to burn down entire Night Elf villages and going on a fucking rampage?
Did you not notice him selling his services to Kil'jaeden directly in exchange for power, just because he was bitter that, you know, becoming a half-demon got him banished from his homeland because that's exactly what they locked him up for 10.000 years to prevent to begin with?
All this, "Why is she a villain" nonsense really makes you wonder if people forgot the whole consumed by vengeance, murdering everything in her way..
Oh, you mean when she broke into a high security prison and murdered her own kin to free her old boytoy so he could fight just a single enemy commander one v. one.
Wait, no, that was Tyrande, the self-righteous, psychopathic bitch Blizzard made the only real female faction leader - until she lost her guts, got married and started playing second fiddle to her manly man husband.
Maiev did not kill any innocents to get at Illidan, her recklessness and refusal to stand down eventually led to the deaths of her fellow Watchers, yes, but the only reason they died was because - get this - they were betrayed by Malfurion and Tyrande, who figured Illidan could leave peacefully since hey, it's not like he murdered hundreds of Night Elves already and made a pact with the Burning Legion oh wait.
Yeah, no. I'm not buying it. Maiev was never a villain, she was just placed in that position because she opposes Blizzard's favourites, Malfurion and Tyrande. Opposing the good guys doesn't make you a villain, especially not when the "good guys" are insane, self-righteous fucktards.

A slightly goofy/silly setting is no excuse for shitty writing. Just look at Pratchett.
