My character came to the conclusion it was to sate your unholy bloodlust and craving for death! I feel for whoever owned that cow, one minute he has live-stock that will make up a part of his in-come, the next he has a pool of liquidy cow meat/guts tainted by necrotic magic. Poor guy.
