We are -WATCHING YOU- !

For the week to come, the Chapter of Holy Anethion’s members will not be seen outside the Abbey in Northshire. They will all no matter rank, walk out among the common citizens of Stormwind, without their uniforms, to aid in this mission. The mission is simple and clear, to track down, discover, locate cultists, heretics among us all. In short: We are going undercover for one week and will spy on - all of you - .

The Chapter has many ways they work but then it comes to deeming someone a heretic or not, deeming someone a cultist or not, they follow protocol. If there are reasons to assume, with proof, witnesses of an incident you might find yourself ending up in their most known book; Bane of Heresy. It is the Witchbane which determines if you end up in the book. Some does not even have the time to end up it in before the case is closed. Which is why we will be watching you all.

Our actual findings may or may not lead to us attempting to bring you in for interrogation. Which may or may not lead to IC actions against your character.

Do note: should we bring you in ic’ly you will of course be discussing things out with us ooc’ly as well, we will not put your character on a pyre without consent and the pyre is exceptional. You may of course be punished in less harsh ways, all from the verdicts which will be posted below here or lesser punishments/harder punishments all depending on what -wrongs- your character is caught doing /known to have done /suspected of/etc.

The Witchbane is solemnly based on the Anethionean definitions of cultists, heretics.
Under here you will see some examples, not all of each of the parts in the Witchbane. Do note: This does not contain all parts of each section.

Definitions

Suspect:

An individual against whom circumstantial evidence has mounted, or who has been reported to the Inquisition by a third party.
Blasphemer (blasphemy): an individual who has slandered the Light, the Church or the Clergy with his words or deeds.

Sinner (transgression):

An individual who transgresses against the religious prescriptions or fails to uphold his religious duties, for instance breaks the virtue of Respect or cavorts with a known warlock.

Faithless (faithlessness):

An individual who either does not profess faith in any religion, or who pretends to worship the Holy Light, but only pays it lip service.

Criminal (iniquity) :

An individual who breaks the laws of the community by committing minor crimes such as, but not limited to theft or fraud.

Heretic (heresy):

An individual who professes and/or preaches a false religion such as Demon-worship or teachings of the Soul blighter, or an individual who seeks to subvert the doctrine of the faith or question the truthfulness of the revelation.

Defiler (corrupting):

An individual who tempts others to abandon the Holy Light, commit crimes or sins, or stray from the Holy Path.


Infidel (infidelity):

An individual who has been informed of Light’s Glory, and is in a position to embrace the teachings of the Light, but refuses to do so.

Heathen (idolatry/paganism):

An individual who professes a religion different than the Holy Light, but is in no position to convert, such as the Kaldorei. A human who converts to such heathen religions is however guilty.
Cultist (cultism) :

An individual who is a member of a heretical organization, such as the Dark Sphere (which is just an example)

Circumstantial Evidence

Circumstantial evidence is made up from small hints that may suggest an individual to be guilty, making him a Suspect. This can be wrong company, strange behaviour, deviant clothing or odd morals and convictions. Circumstantial evidence is never enough to convict an individual, but can lead to a proper investigation, warrant interrogation or support other evidence.

Direct Evidence

Direct Evidence is obtained when an individual is observed by a member of the Inquisition, or is caught red-handed in an offence against the Holy Law. It is self-evident that a man seen summoning a demon is guilty of Witchcraft. Below you will find some points which are less-known

Interrogation

Interrogation is to be used against suspects, witnesses or any people believed to be in possession of useful information. Remember to follow the following steps and be mindful of the obvious pitfalls. You are allowed to motivate the subject with spiritual or material rewards during the interrogation.

Light’s Damning Verdicts

When performing a verdict, make sure to agree beforehand with the target Out-of-character if it is alright. Do not perform any of the verdicts without prior agreement! Feel free to use the description solely as reference, and adjust effect and duration as you and target see fit!

When performing the verdict, the target must be incapacitated and laying with the chest up. The shadow breaker is to kneel besides the target, take out his Anethionean Cross and press it against the target’s chest, right above the heart.

Then the shadow breaker is to recite:

“I testify that there is nothing holy but the Holy Light, and no truer teaching than that of Anethion; O Light, watch as I expose the wicked who dare exist in your sight!”

Now the Shadow breaker must look his target in the eyes.

“May the heavens bear witness to the darkness that has taken hold of your soul, and may the Light send down its wrath and punish you for your wickedness.

By the power ordained from above, by the grace of the Holy Light, I assume upon myself the authority to pass Light’s damning verdict and utter aloud your crimes: “

And he shall name the crimes that the target has committed with as much elaboration as possible.

“I shall now become the agent of Light’s Wrath and Justice, and may the Holy Light stay my hand if I lay it upon an innocent.”

Then the Shadow breaker is to say

“I pass upon you the verdict of…” where he should add the name of the verdict, and perform the actual verdict. At last he shall recite:

“May this penance open your eyes, and guide you from darkness and into the Light. Those who transgress against Light’s Eternal Law shall pay the price in pain and blood. Such is Light’s will, and so shall it be!”

Examples of Verdicts put into action:

Verdict of Censure
This verdict makes the guilty one unable to speak. Only sounds that escape his mouth are incoherent and basic.

Verdict of Ritual
This verdict compels the guilty one to live according to the Nine Steps and the Religious Prohibitions. Disobeying the compulsion will put the guilty one through great spiritual pain.

Verdict of Justice
This verdict brands the word ‘criminal’ on the guilty one’s forehead, and compels him to relate the story of his crime when questioned. Disobeying the compulsion will put the guilty one through great spiritual pain.

Verdict of Revocation
This verdict makes every dark spell the guilty one casts to cause a backlash, making at least half the spell’s intended effect to afflict him instead of the intended target.

Verdict of the Damned
This verdict turns the guilty one’s skin a shade of grey and makes them appear sickly and forlorn, as well as sapping them of most of their physical strength and will-power. Those who turn against the Light must be made to realize how bleak their life truly is.

Verdict of the Outcast
This verdict surrounds the guilty one with an aura of unbearable stench of rot, and may even cause the skin to erupt in pus-leaking blisters. Some men are not to be trusted, this verdict is designed specifically to reveal to all the filthiness of the one sentenced, and warn them against any form of association.

Verdict of the Revelation
This verdict engulfs the target in Light’s radiance, forcing him to rethink his every decision and relive his every transgression, showing him the ‘mistakes’ (as seen from Chapter’s point of view) of his entire life. The result is a prolonged and agonizing nightmare. The idea of this verdict is to confront the guilty one with his many offenses in an attempt to force a realization and potentially redemption. The verdict can however have an adverse effect, with the guilty one realizing that his crimes are so many that he is beyond redemption anyway.

Verdict of the Flagellant
This verdict causes the victim to enter a state of holy frenzy, making him lash out against Anethion’s enemies with simple-minded, savage ferocity which lasts until the guilty one is knocked unconscious or feints from fatigue. The idea behind this verdict is to make the guilty one attone for his transgressions by aiding, even invulanteraly, the cause of good and perhaps even dying or being wounded in the process.

Verdict of Catharsis
This verdict combines the powers of judgement and exorcism, pitting the faith of the Shadowbreaker against the corruption of the target in an attempt to purge arcane and fel corruption. The act of Catharsis may or may not result in actual decrease of corruption, but will always leave the target depleted, sickly and potentially insane for a while. If purification does take place, escaping corruption may take any form on the target's body (such as blemishes or wounds) or may even manifest as a terrible demon that will chase the newly-purified, or even the shadowbreaker himself. Being purified in such a way may greatly decrease the power of a warlock.

Should you be so unfortunate to fit these descriptions, then who knows if you any longer can remain safe. Our Bane of Heresy are already big, have been for years and keeps growing![/b]

Nobody expects the Anethion inquisition!

Here's an important question; Are the Anethions themselves willing to kill off their characters if things turn that way? It's a preferable thing to have if they themselves are going out "trying to" kill PCs that the field is even for retaliation.

Deathrate in the Chapter is rather high, many members have faced death. So the shorthand answer is 'yes'.
