Those who have pre-ordered GW2 will be able to join the beta, Faralan. Of course you could get in without the actual game, but the chances are slim.

Received my beta weekend e-mail about 30 minutes ago but the download link is getting hammered. Hopefully their servers are prepared for the festivities to come!

My partner in crime is lax in picking a server, so it'll prolly be a last moment decision again.

Ditto. The only way to get a good roleplaying group together is to have everyone interested get together and try, really.

Any information on how easy/expensive it is to jump between EU servers?

I think that jumping between servers temporarily will be free no matter where the server is placed. But don't take my word for it.
They still have one central database.
