Well, all the beta has for testing is the Pandaren starting zone. I'd wager we'll get a new build sometime in the next week.Vec wrote:Many people believe it's still so early in the beta, it's to the point of it being a unofficial alpha. I wouldn't worry.

Because all those animations are placeholders. Pandaren models have a lot more detail in every way, they will only update the really cool monk animations when the updated models are finished...Vec wrote:The old race model animations seem so clunky and lame! Bah!

From my understanding they plan on updating everything bar the Cata races.Delidah wrote:Because all those animations are placeholders. Apparantly no new models will be avaliable at the launch of Mist, not sure how true that is. But it was the big let down from the press tour from what I can remeber.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
Yes, they mentioned that dwarves -might- be ready for MoP, and humans & orcs would be the next on the list.
The question is if they'll hold back with releasing the models until they're all revamped, or they'll release them in bundles as content patches allows.

Yeah, it's Blizzard people that said this, so it's probably true.
They have to update male nelfs so bad... the model is so horrible D:

To be honest, I really don't understand why they haven't done it sooner.
They argued it was something to do with time and resources.. but Blizzard is the most patience gaming company I know of and one of, if not the richest company currently in the MMO market. I mean.. how much money has Warcraft made? Take for example the Warhammer online models, they were amazing and had such fluid animations, I throughly enjoyed each class simply because of the feel of each model. I don't see why Blizzard can't knock out a few remakes out of the vanilla races?
Eh, no doubt they're working on it and just wanna take their time. But y'know. Waiting.
SOON... SOOOOON.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
The main reason for their taking their time is that they want to get it exactly right...otherwise there will probably be some serious player backlash for "wrecking how their character looks". I mean, you've wandered all over WoW with the same character for what...seven years? So you're kind of attached to them am I right? And then suddenly, poof. They look completely and utterly different.
So Blizz are probably wanting to make sure they can get as many options ready and possible for each race update so that the players are happy as a whole.

Found some blue posts about Pandaren history, it looks like they had their own wars against the Trolls.

"So why would the Pandaren accept trolls as allies, with the Horde?
- When you play a Pandaren, that choice is yours to make and for your own reasons."
It sums it up neatly. Pandaren choosing Horde is nothing else then dishonorable blood traitorous!

Re: Mists of Pandaria
Well, probably the same way that Blood Elves joined the Horde and accepted the Darkspear as their allies despite having been fierce opponents of the Amani Trolls for so long, and the Orcs after the whole First and Second War. And the Forsaken having once been Scourge monsters, and before-hand Humans joining the Horde.
The Horde is full of races who at one point or another were at each other's throats

It isn't that we don't hate the other Horde races, it's just that we hate the Alliance races more.Grek'thar/Takarius wrote:

This is also true for the Night Elfs.. Only we hate the Horde races more than the Alliance ones.. Although, then again, I suppose we prefer the Tauren over any alliance race, and we have Gnomes.. and Dwarfs.. Even spacesquids messing up the ecology of our islands.. and then there's the humans with their dipshit super saiyen king...
Why are we alliance again?

They have less Thalassian Elves.
If Night Elves were Horde, then you'd have Blood Elves over your moonwells like dwarves over unopened ale kegs.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
Because the orcs fucked up Ashenvale and you still mad, yo.
On the updating of the old player models;
With the new pandaren animation systems and the incredible inrease in animation detail, especially in the face, it's finally become worth the effort to update the old models.
It, however, takes a loooot of time and effort to create a model with such a wealth of animations, that has to conform to such a high standard. On top of that, updating the models probably also means updating most of the enemies and allies in the game that also use those player models. Though I imagine a lot of that can be done through an algorithm, there's still lots to do by hand.
Personally I'm content they're actually finally doing it.

After the dancestudio I honestly don't think they are doing it.

Re: Mists of Pandaria
Oh please...would you have actually used the dance studio thing? To be honest, I thought that was just a waste of space...I mean, making up your own dance thing in the game for your character.
Do you realise what kind of nightmare that would be for the rigging team? Good lord that would just be.... I'm only a student atm learning how to do the animation controls and stuff and I'm having a nightmare making sure the character works with the pre-programmed stuff I'm trying to make it do...and you want us to try and allow people to mix and match the stuff into some crazy ass dance that each player comes up with?
But I digress. In terms of the updated models, Blizz will have to actually do this cus of the upgrades they're making to the games art style and textures with every expansion. They got away with it in TBC because it was a slight improvement. Pushed it a little further in Wrath, then Cata races came out and its like a Before and After skin picture. So with MoP whether each race comes out in a patch, or on launch, or the next expansion...updated models are an inevitable course for Blizzard to take. Otherwise... /shrug game over.
