Dref, I think the point is that they don't have a government at the moment.

Re: Tzeentch's Thread of Everchanging Topics
The tech is very interesting, but I can think of a few things that could stop it from seeing widespread adoption, which the video didn't really cover.
1) How does the demands it make of hardware compare to current game engines? This is the big one. If it requires a different emphasis on hardware components (like heavy dependency on the CPU and RAM with little effect from high-end graphics cards), then it'd be hard to convince the industry to shift, especially as current generation console hardware is geared toward polygon rendering. If this tech can't leverage current hardware compositions -and- console hardware just as well, it won't break through. Developers makes games for the hardware that is in use, and hardware manufacturers make hardware for the games that are being made. Voxel rendering never took off for the same reason.
2) How much control and flexibility does it allow over the visual style of the game? Does it allow for deliberately non-realistic cartoon styles such as in WoW of Team Fortress 2 as easily as polygon rendering does?
3) The video didn't really show any non-static geometry. How well does animated geometry perform? Can existing skeletal animation systems be used with this rendering?
4) How easy is it to implement this tech with existing non-graphic tech (collision detection, object physics, engine scripting, etc)?
5) <TinfoilHatMode> Big established tech companies and hardware manufacturers buying out and burying the tech to avoid upsetting a status quo that they are comfortable with?

Re: Tzeentch's Thread of Everchanging Topics
Long text, though it's my favourite poem I can currently think of.
- In the movie 'The Haunting in Connecticut', spoilered due to large amount of text.
- In the movie 'The Haunting in Connecticut', spoilered due to large amount of text.
- Spoiler:
- Ladies and Gentlemen, skinny and stout,
I'll tell you a tale I know nothing about;
The Admission is free, so pay at the door,
Now pull up a chair and sit on the floor.
One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight;
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A blind man came to watch fair play,
A mute man came to shout "Horray!"
A deaf policeman heard the noise and
Came to stop those two dead boys.
He lived on the corner in the middle of the block,
In a two-story house on a vacant lot;
A man with no legs came walking by,
and kicked the lawman in his thigh.
He crashed through a wall without making a sound,
into a dry creek bed and suddenly drowned;
The long black hearse came to cart him away,
But he ran for his life and is still gone today.
I watched from the corner of the big round table,
The only eyewitness to facts of my fable;
But if you doubt my lies are true,
Just ask the blind man, he saw it too.
