Idea: The Order of Ashes
NOTE: The channel is now open. join /ashes
It is an OOC channel where planning and discussion of future events will be held.
The Alliance prior to what we know OOC as the creation of World of Warcraft, was very " clean " with its use of magic. Night elves didn't even have mages, Warlocks were not acceptable to fight along aside on the field of battle let alone drink and socialise with at taverns. Death knights even walk amongst our characters now.
But not everyone who uses foul magic is evil, or out to gain power for the traditional nefarious reasons. Some choose to study Fel magic because it is un-explored and believe by venturing further into the craft they can help tame it. Others find a calling to shadow magic, projecting their very wills onto others for the good of the Kingdom, A mind blasted bandit is still dead, regardless if shadow magic was used in the process or not. And, but of course there are the Death knights, the unfortunate few who simply at the wrong end of a rune blade at the worst time. That doesn't make the risen incapable of doing good, for their people or for the Alliance.
Whilst that is all well and good, Citizens and other adventurers will still find themselves mistrusting those unfortunate souls who practice such arts, Even when their loyalty is tested and proven time and time again in the heat of battle, A Paladin will always struggle to shake the hand of a dead man, regardless if they were once brothers. Mages will always be waiting to deliver a " I told you so. " in the form of fireball to any weak warlock who falls to corrupt, and Priests will always watch the ones with silver tongues and a presence that invokes whispers.
This is where The Order of Ashes comes in. It is a secret organisation within the Alliance that welcomes those of Pure hearts and accursed hands, If you wish to do the most good you can with the most questionable weapons, then you are formally invited to the meetings. The Ashes offer three things.
Comfort, You will not be judged amongst your brothers and sisters of the Ashes. A weapon is a weapon, and it is how you use it that truly matters. If you wish for your craft to be kept secret then the Order will go above and beyond to offer you the resources to do so.
Resolve, You will watch those of the Ashes just as they watch you. An oath is sworn upon membership that if you ever fall to corruption then your life is to be ended by your brothers and sisters, as swiftly as is possible. If you can't be saved, of course.
Knowledge, The Order does not exist, you do not talk about the Order outside of meetings. Casual conversation between members in public places is highly forbidden. But this level of secrecy has it's rewards. It is rumoured amongst the children of Ashes that the Order is far older then members are lead to believe, and it's knowledge of the dark arts. Older still. If you seek tutorship or wish to find an apprentice, The order can help.

Just an idea. Thought it was worth posting on the forum for discussion. Please note:
The order will be represented through an IC channel.
There is no guild requirement
Meetings will be held at rotated locations.
Appropriate measures will be taken if the Order is made public knowledge, Capturing of rumour-spreaders, and humane ..Deals. Will be made.

" Uncorrupted warlocks are rare warlocks who do not suffer from arcane corruption: their alignments remain inviolate, unless they cast evil spells, and do evil deeds. Most young warlocks claim they know what they're getting into. They know about the seductive whisper of power and the strength of the Nether. They know of the crushing will of the demon lords and, most of all they know of the corruptive influence of warlock magic. They say it will not happen to them; they will not fall to evil, as have so many before them. Most of them are wrong. Most of them join the dark ranks of the creatures with which they traffic. Some few, though, are right. Some are strong enough to resist the will of the Legion and of the dark powers they wield; they, in turn, bend their wills to mastering demonic secrets while remaining immune to their taint. These are the uncorrupted warlocks, and they spread both distrust and hope wherever they go. Some few even announce themselves openly in the cities of the Horde or, rarer, the Alliance, and make their unique talents available to their affiliation. "

Good luck with it though.
*Edit* Actually I think I will give it a shot. Though she'll be very antagonistic towards any warlock members.

This is in fact pretty much my own warlock, but then group-shaped. And Alliance, too! I like.

Re: Idea: The Order of Ashes
Interesting. Well I guess it could work but it depends a bit on your views on magic.
I've read a lot about the lore regarding the arcane and fel arcane a couple of years back and as I understood it most seemed to agree that arcane and especially fel arcane (shadow?) are corruptive. Most "evil" users don't have a choice, the forces they chose to wield have corrupted them and they are now the tool of those forces. It's not the purpose, not how you use it but rather the nature of the power source that is dangerous. Some spells are more dangerous than others, tinkering with souls for instance is very bad.
There are probably others on these forums that could clarify this but that probably deserves a thread of it's own.
I still think there is potential in this idea though and it could lead to some very interesting RP.
Good luck!

Fel magic is indeed very curroptive but it isn't impossible to have a good intentioned warlock. Your correct about the soul business it's the line that tends to be danced across with care, but if your talking things like enslaving demons and wielding fel flame and " Natural " shadow, like decay and rot. It's possible to maintain alot of ones self with an Iron will and a guideing hand from a tutor. Though, Having a lust for battle tends to be a natural occurence as you learn, A sadistic nature, but more towards your " enemies " :B.

It does state that many warlocks BELIEVE themselves to be un-corruptable and the fact remains that most of them aren't.
The Ashes is also welcome to Shadow priests and Death Knights.

Quick question, would people prefer a..
IC channel with IC events planned. Closer knitted.
or an OOC channel for out of charecter discussion with IC events planned. More secretive.

I'm not a big fan of IC channels, so the latter, IMO.
