[H-Belf]Council of Silvermoon Voting and Instalment Empty [H-Belf]Council of Silvermoon Voting and Instalment

Post by Xen-tau Tue May 24, 2011 2:57 pm

Magistrix Aishling Silversun sits down in her comfortable chair at the table. Her home in Fairbreeze Village is peaceful, apart from the occasional shouting from the Farstriders near the Dead Scar. Before her lies a scroll without any letters on it, a quill and ink. She rubs her eyes, creating sentences in her head to write on the scroll. After a little while, she dipped the quill in the ink and started to write the following in Thalassian on the scroll:

The Instalment of the Council of Silvermoon.

Most of us remember the time where Silvermoon had a council, now the Regent-Lord wants to create a new council, with himself, the Grand Magister and the Ranger-General as leaders. The new councillors can be considered advisers of Silvermoon.

On the 26th of May around the ninth bell in the evening, a meeting shall be organised to vote for your councillors. A letter of recommendation, whether it be of yourself or someone else can be written to Magistrix Aishling Silversun. It is not possible to recommend yourself or someone else during the meeting

We hope to hold this meeting in The Hall of Respite, as it is one of the largest public places of Silvermoon.

For Quel'thalas!

Magistrix Aishling Silversun checked her scroll and made the journey to Silvermoon City. "Now to spread this message over town

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OOC from here.

We talked about the resurrection of the council, but never really "picked a date" to install. To make sure everyone gets a vote, I'm creating this event. I'd like to point out that every Blood Elf can be a councillor. I'm not sure how the rest feels, but I think you should be willing to create events for other Blood Elves to join. We're trying to create some more Blood Elf RP.

Questions can be asked here. I hope to see you next week. If nobody minds, I'm appointing myself as the host of the evening and I'll make sure everything goes smoothly. ^^

Unfortunately I can't make it to the event, but may I vote OOCly for councillors? My blood elf is just a scrub merchant-adventurer anyway, without political influence >>

Please keep Saevir's advice in the other threat in mind..

If there's anything I learned from the last round of silvermoon counciling, it was that putting something likes this up for a general IC vote turns the whole thing into a mess. RPing out the election dragged the whole thing out to the point where half the belf community had lost interest by the time the council was fully elected and could start doing something. It also made people bring their OOC opinions and disputes into the roleplay.

I'd say find a group of players that are OOCly motivated to make the council good, able to put in enough effort to do something with it, and who seem like they work well together and don't have any strong OOC objections against them from most of the community. Ideally they should be playing a character that IC'ly makes sense in the role, but ultimately you want to make sure that initial council has good and well-motivated players on it first and foremost.

Do this, then get everyone together and discuss OOCly which of the candidates will start out in the initial council. Remind people that no one is on the council for life if necessary.

IC'ly, any sort of council under the regent-lord's authority would likely have been appointed by him anyway with no input from the population at large.

As much as I'd like to do that...

That means there is a little group that decides about it, and I know there are people interested in SMC that aren't on the forums here. I'll make an event with a link to this forum and then we can vote IC. Unless someone else has another idea and we just get to install the persons, make a little event out of it.

I fear that that will just be a repeat of the mistakes of the past.

Few seems to be interested in the council anyway, with only five applications to it being posted within the last (nearly) two weeks.
In addition, those who may be interested have had about half a year to sign up to this forum to get involved with the community.

Besides, it's not like the first batch of councilors will be permanent.

Also, I feel that this bears a repeating:

I might show up on my Belf, only in attendance though. I've not much interest in becoming a part of this council, sure wouldn't mind seeing one actually go somewhere in Silvermoon though.

My advice wasn't meant to be taken as "find a group and have them declare themselves the council".

It was intended more along the line of "find interested and motivated people, put them forth where people can discuss and voice objections OOCly until there's something the majority can go along with"

Well, we need some other votingprocess then if you prefer that, I don't care really. But we need to vote one wat or another. Any ideas?

This is IC hard to explain anyhow, a group of citizens in a council, that aren't noble.

I have to agree with Saevir. The IC voting from last time lasted three and a half hours and even after it was over, people felt like they didn't have enough time to present themselves properly. Not to mention the spam and derailing that followed after every negative reaction/rejection >_<

My suggestion:

Compile a list of the people volunteering. Stick it in the belf subforum and ask people to comment/question about what candidates want to do/object as they'd like for a couple of days. Try to resolve any issues that crop up from this through rational discussion before moving on. If the inclusion of a particular person become an unresolvable point of contention between a significant amount of people, then I'd hope said person would have the good grace to withdraw so that the council does not become mired in the drama.

If there's an excess of candidates still, get them together and let them figure out among themselves who goes in the initial council, based on ideas/initiatives/amount of time available and motivation/etc. Ideally all of them should look to get the most efficient and well-motivated group in place, rather than just try to get themselves onto the council.

TLDR version:
Find out which candidates could be a part of this without a lot people making drama about it. Have those candidates figure out the initial setup of the council among themselves according to what would give the best result to the belf community.

All this is just my suggestion from personal experience, and depends on those involved actually acting with the best interest of belf community in mind. I don't spend much time in Silvermoon these days, and I'm not looking to get particularly involved in the council at this point, so whether you use my suggestion is up to you.

I would like to remind that Abulos is currently afk. He stated that in some other thread in this forum not long ago. So I am not entirely sure if he is able to join this event tomorrow. I will not be able to join because of irl friends coming over. (Rarity that must be celebrated). I did not apply for the council anyway but I believe Abulos would be very much interested in taking part in this council matter. Well anyway I hope that everything goes well and we get a nice council for Silvermoon.

Just striked the date, and not setting a new date yet due to some reasonable concerns over voting. I'm going to discuss this with a few people, and hope to set a new date this sunday.

Might I direct your attention here. This new (and hopefully last) thread allows everyone to ask the candidates questions, to help you make your mind up about who to vote OOC for.

Voting will take place next Saturday, in the Sin'dorei forum here.

Don't forget, you can still apply to be a Councillor here.
At time of writing, only the delegate of the Magister has multiple candidates, and I'm hoping for more applications.
