RMAAW - Scholar Event: Debating Society

*There are rather grand looking posters around many intellectual coffee shops, student lounges and learnéd places*

Scholars, students, ladies and gentlemen,

As Minister of Magic people think my role is limited to the magical welfare of our city, in fact we work very closely with the vacant seat of Education. Whilst the education minister prepares our children for the grand world of Azeroth, we in the Royal Ministry of the Arcane Arts and Welfare wish to help our fellow subjects of His Majesty expand their mind be it in taking part or just observing. We would like to found the first Stormwindian Debating Society where we will gather when a political, religious or international issue arises and attempt to show both sides of the arguement. Now, to make sure this runs well, each meeting we will host teams of four people on each debating team which will be for or against the statement, so if you are eager to take part when you attend the meeting we will ask who has researched for or against and make sure that in the coming weeks everyone's voices are heard. The structure of the meetings will be the following:

-Declaring of the Statement
-Lead members of each team give the opening statements.
-Second members will attempt to show weakness in the opening statement's arguements.
-Third members will attempt to show the true strength of their own issue.
-Four members will combine all said and try to convince the audience to their way of thinking.
-The audience will then be given the chance to ask questions of any participant and then vote on the winner.

I feel that scholars are becoming too lazy, this I hope will invoke some stimulation in our people! All are welcome and a time and place will be relased shortly when I am sure of interest.

The first statement will be, "This House believes that Dalaran should not have magical authority over the Kingdom of Stormwind unless they break ties with the Horde."

The initiative is great, although the 1st statement to be debated is hardly encouraging me to sign up.

Aye, that ^ I love the idea. Rest assured with a perhaps more... stimulating? question (I know you were going for something Stormwind-y, but there are a wealth of 'relevant issues' that might draw more people) I would definitely take part.

[with a thick austrian accent] I think people fear and detaste the chapter because there is a little Chapterian in all of us; that feeling that you would want to shoot somebody in face because you disagree so much. It is that confrontation with our subconscious desires that triggers the adverse reaction towards the Chapterians.

The Debate is schedueled to take place on Wednesday the 16th of March at 20:00. This time is not set in stone so if it clashes with other major events tell me.

The location of the event will either be the Stormwind Council chamber or another to be announced in the Mage District.

Just a reminder that this is this wednesday! If you intend to come and participate could you pm and let me know as well as for or against. Thanks!

So far not including myself we only have four.. Which is feasible in a sense! I may postpone it a week and try to really get the word out and get people to sing up, start telling guilds about it etc. I'll see how things go tonight and then post here again tomorrow!

I am gonna post-pone it a week and REALLY and I mean REAAAAAAAAALLY get the word out, start whispering guild leaders etc..
