No, it's football. Soccer is what americans call it because they think naming a sport "football" because the ball you use is one foot in lengh make's sense.

Most really football intrested americans even stop calling it soccer in my experience.

It's Football >> If anything, the only time it should be referred to as Soccer is when it's being played in America. You can claim there's plenty of versions of football 'til you're blue in the face, that, despite my not often saying Rooney can play the game at the moment, is football.

Football is Rugby = "Rugby Football" (we can split that down at a later date).

Football is Soccer = "Association Football".

Football is American Football = NFL (or any of the other leagues).

Apart from the first, "football" is shit.

But, anyway, "Soccer" is actually English (from Association, Assoc), and was "taken" to America and used in the football (soccer) teams there in the Universities as far as I know. The reason this is different to other "football" games is because the Football Association were the ones who (with dozen teams or so) in the later 1800s set up a standard set of rules for playing the game "football". This was different to the group who decided "football" should be played as it always had been, with feet and hands. This was rugby (or Rugby Football). And is the FAR SUPERIOR GAME.
