Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Good idea there! Looks like the False King can make some sensible promises to get Westfall's aid. Or at least raise a revolt against Varian in westfall.
If he can say things that encite at least some parts of population in every province, entire Kingdom errupts in civil war. Will also explain why Varian can't just gather a huge army and smash the False King right away - war is everywhere!

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
I'd however recommend to keep this series of event rather simple than complex in the politic elaboration. Too complex politics are harder to play, and not appealing for all role players. Some role players are not involved in game enough to be able to follow a too complex plot.
There is many very cultivated persons on this forum, do not forget that not everyone have as much knowledge and culture. As it would be a really awsome serie of event which will transform deeply the server Lore, and involve a lot of guilds and players, I think it's very important to keep it accessible to everyone, including the less cultivated players, or the more casual.
I'm myself totaly motivated to participate in a way or another (this depending the plot we will finaly choose) ! *cheer*

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
but aye, it can be made as interessting and involving as possible depending on interest and the RP-ability and attitude behind the False King. If player is very open and involving, False King can build a retinue of advisers and confidants; there can be evil warlocks trying to influence him to their side and so forth and so forth. He can even court Elloa in an attempt to use Whitestar Magazine as his propaganda tool! *cough*

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Here is a thought for you; Theramore. Looking at most of the post-Shattering business in Dustwallow, Barrens, Stonetalon, etc it appears as if Theramore and its armed forces have become very 'stormwindinsed' (Uhm, or however you put it) and if nothing else it seems that Stormwind has pumped a massive amount of influence into the more war hungry leadership there to overrule Proudmoore.
Whilst said 'King' may not nessecarly be a peace-loving-hippy-Jaina-2.0, perhaps they may be a noble who had ties to stormwind, with primarly post-Cataclysm Theramore views of cooperation, 'the greater threat' and so forth who after being taken down by GLORIOUS PEOPLES STORMWIND REPUBLIC ghestpo seeks to take his game to a higher level, with all the hilarious twists and turns of 'power courrupts' along the way.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
To get Whitestar Magazine there is two solutions :
- seduce /convince/whatever other solution the boss aka Alakina Aisling
- convince Elloa (or really be ) a propagandist for peace, love and harmony in the world of Azeroth. Then my draenei will be on the side of the new King.
- or maybe something related to the others role player who will join our pewpew magazine soon ! *wink wink*

"So, like...I shall rebuild the Park District and make it it into a Draenei District, where people can come to meditate and enjoy peace and tranquility! It will have domesticated squirrels and bunnies and other fluffy animals frolicking around in the gardens as a means of therapy."
We must try not to make the False King too attractive, or nobody will side with Varian

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Gilneans? They want their home back, and Varian is sending his best soldiers (7th Legion) to help them do it.
Night Elves? I doubt they mind being able to take the fight to the Horde.
Dwarves? They have little reason to love the Horde, especially in Badlands/Tanaris/Uldum with the Blood Elves attacking them and the Stormpike. More Dwarves live in Stormwind than in Ironforge.
Kul Tiras/Stromgarde (offical lore version) - Always advocated fighting the Horde, since they have taken the brunt of the 'fragile peace'. Alot of the refugees in Stormwind would back the conflict and Varian's policies.
Whilst Varian may not be the Leader of the Grand Alliance, he'd still have plenty of supporters amongst both his own and other races.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
True enough. Varian is a formiddable figure, and in my OOC opinion he is a good leader of the Alliance; I think that some of his strategies make no sense, but they are motivated by Game Mechanics I think. I would fortify Thoradin's wall and try to take out Hammerfall instead of retaking Andorhal, and use the spare soldiers and resources to make a more decent push into the barrens.
Regardless: yes, False King will have a very thin support. I think he will only have aid of greedy opportunists and uneducated peasants who 'don't care' about some 'Ashevale' on the other end of the world and certainly don't want to be fighting a war over it, where they are taxed, and have their sons taken away never to return.

The Roaring Lion will as always be the loyal Stormwind and Varian propaganda paper *nod* Especially now as I'm changing the style, having Varians face on it rather then a lion.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
One thing though, I also think it would be best to keep the False King's OOC identity a secret to all but a important few.. call it a gut feeling, but things like this, especially on a larger scale, more often than not end up in screaming, roaring, fits of drama.

*fake King proposes Julia, should he win - Julia will be Queen of Stormwind* Still loyal to Varian?
And yes, keeping the identity secret might be a good idea. I just don't think it is possible. Since it will probably be one of the more known and experienced role-players; his/her absence during the event will be noted.

Fake King wakes up with a chopped off horse head in his bed. I'd like to see how this turns out, seems interesting.

I'm actually quite interested in this whole idea. And yeah, provided it was RP'd well, I think it could create -a lot- of seperate events and fun for a hefty portion of the community.
My only issue is, well, the jealousy that quite commonly occurs when one person is RP'ing someone more important than someone else :p So, g'luck to whoever you end up giving the Fake King position, 'cause I'd expect some whining from somewhere at least.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
We need to make the false King still convincing. It would be really nice if IC, player could really wonder to who swear allegeance. If it's only a gugus with his 10 man milicia and three defias to support him it would be a little bit sad.
There is a lot of potential in this idea. We need to get out of it the best !

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Are you thinking about creating a new character for this, or taking a already established one from the community?
Like Eselan for example, human, high up in it's society- noble(?)
I personally would consider it more intresting and fun it being a character we all already know, to one degree or another.
But it would make it dam much easier with a newborn- harder to raise support tough, if you are like Gunnel suggested, keep it low on the OOC part.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
If some established noble volunteers to this job (and fake kings have a very low life-expectancy..) then sure! Otherwise it would be a new character I am afraid; but he will be introduced through RP a few weeks prior to the event. So that others get to know him etc.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
I think this event idea is good.
I think it will end up in drama once there is Stormwind mass fighting.
Edit: to be short and simple, personally I would heavily recomend avoiding the whole riot stuff in Stormwind.Perhaps do some shady things there but..ugh 5 vs 5 emote fights? Just horrific specially in Stormwind as such thing will end up in such drama that it will just be overwhelming. Like I said at the beggining, nice event idea but I really would not take this to Stormwind streets in the form of an fullout riot/uprising.
Edir2: And of course I can see a lack of support towards the traitor king as well from most roleplayers besides their alts.

I'd fully support this as long as this "king" is a personality and not just another noble

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
This sounds like a very interesting idea. I would greatly be looking forward to see this play out and, if I have time to spare, participate.
I think it's something that should play a lot on subtlety though. The pretender would have to stay out of Stormwind most of the time with his body guards and followers. A large part of the plot would be about his retinue liaising with and seeking support from various factions.
I imagine that the pretender's supporters would have to be doing more than the pretender him/herself.
I'd also echo making someone up for it. A true pretender. Not using any other noble family except superficially ("my great-grandmother was a Menethil")
However, I think the player behind the pretender ought to be kept secret and it ought to be someone willing to take full consequences of everything IC. Especially death.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
I see the concern with emote-battles; but having it end in any other way will leave many people disappointed. From what I've seen, a lot of RPers crave emote-fights for some odd reason. if you have two armies positioned for combat, but Fake King is, say, poisoned and his people disperse - both sides will go *sigh*

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
I have yet to see a large emote fight where both sides are kept happy. Always there will be people that consider some at the other side are being overpowerd and will spark drama out of it. I am not saying emote fights need to be avoided fully, oh no, just the full riot should be avoided.

Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Unexpecidly, he turns up in Stormwind, his army wreacking havoc on the city
I think this and the general plot would be a bit unrealistic considering the might and awesomeness of the current king. While this would be happening a full out war is still going on with the horde, but these nobles are trying to overthrow the alliance' grand leader? Sounds like a super villain more than anything else.
While I think it would be a large scale plot with many possibilites / outcomes I think there would be many other equally large plots you could make when Cataclysm comes.
Re: Event Suggestion - Rise of a False King
Well, considering the overall tendency of Warcraft such plot cannot ever be done, since for as long as the game lasts, Alliance will be at war with some terrible and threatening enemy.
Large scale w-pvp campaigns and other military events are awesome, but I just can't imagine doing them and only them for the next 1.5 years. While, yes, strictly speaking in the current state of the world little else makes sense. Cathedral Square idlers would be dragged to the front, food ought to be too scarce to throw parties, angry and hungry mobs will go enraged if nobles throw a ball etc. King would not bother with fully-fledged trials, and just get the city cleared out of criminals and other bastards.
I think the only way to let RP continue, and be fresh, is by doing things that might not always make full, rational sense.

Well it would make sense in between expansions. Like over summer when the Lich King was dead, the Alliance was weak and there wasn't alot of hostilities going on, perfect chance for such evil noble to sieze power.
