This is actually quite true. Groningen itself is awesome, but apart from that there's nothing to do here until you reach Utrecht.

Wohoo! The Greeks have shown some sanity and scrapped the referendum! My stocks ended up nearly 10% higher today and the news was announced at the end of the day! Tomorrow might be good, just goes to show how unpredictable the markets currently are.

I do, I believe in democracy. The government of Greece has been elected democratically and should exercise its authority based on democratic principles. I'm however not much a fan of referendums in general, and especially not a fan of referendums when there's a crisis and the people have to give up a lot and they get to vote directly over that. The majority of people are short-sighted when it comes to economics and don't know what's best for them. parliament can be expected to take a slightly more studied and objective look. Not much, because economics is field that is very muddled, but still.

That basically goes against the princeples of the Democracy, does it not? You are saying that specific group of people shall decide for the people what's good for them, not the people themselves. Not saying you are not right, just pointing something out.

Re: The Happy Post
That's partly correct, Rasonal. It goes against the principles of direct democracy, but not against the principles of representative democracy. The Greek people have chosen those who are to decide over them. This is a manner of democratic legitimization for its rulers. The Greek people are free to send their elected rulers home when elections are called, be that because the term of parliament expires or because it has been disbanded. In the end it is up to them to decide who to send to parliament. They have chosen to allow representatives to decide matters of state for them.
Thus, it does not go against democracy per se. It is perfectly in line with representative democracy, but it is not in line with direct democracy. Both forms have their inherent advantages and disadvantages (though I would say representative democracy is superior), but both forms are inherently democratic.

I'm a courier at my father's company. In essence I deliver packages to dentists and hospitals. One can think of anything from fake teeth to something that needs to be delivered asap because it's needed for surgery.
...It does involve speeding now and then, haha.
And sure Ras, just send me a PM, or open a new thread if you want to.
