I'm not sure if anybody here uses it as a reference, but I figure I'd let the word out - the WoWWiki community, in protest of Wikia's blatant disregard for what the users want, has moved all of the content to a new site, known as Wowpedia (as Wikia is maintaining the claim to "WoWWiki").

"Why all the panty-twisting?" you might ask. I'll set the scene:

Wikia is introducing a new skin, known as "Oasis", which compresses the text to make room for ads - since Wikia is more concerned about ways to make money than what we, the users, want. People who tested Oasis for Wikia reported eye strain and headaches from reading the new format, and it also screws up all the templates and tooltips. Wikia - though their people denied it in discussions with us - is said to have been deleting posts that make any references to eye strains or headaches from reading the new format. And it will be mandatory - replacing Monaco, Vector or anything else you might be using - as of November 3.

So, in short, Wikia likes the new setup - and the users don't. WoWWiki hoped that threatening to move would change their minds, but they're taking it in stride, saying "WoWWiki will still be here, you can leave if you want". So we - the admins and a large group of the users - packed up and moved, and several other wikis are looking at the same.

If you use WoWWiki for your information needs, update your links to www.wowpedia.org.

This is a grave loss. It is a gave loss to lose such a wiki system. It is a grave loss since this is likely to split a community that delivered a great reference and source of information.

This mean that Defias wiki is moving too then I guess?
I've never used it so much, as I've never been able to understand how to make a proper post there, but if we are moving I'm willing to learn and participate a bit to the new site.

On second glance, this change doesn't seem to be as dramatic as I deemed it. I feared they would be forced to change the engine behind WowWiki.

Do you have a link to the original report on this Exilius? I might spread this one around a bit.

I still fail to see what the issue is. I didn't notice any difference at all.

The main page looks fine (though looks like we have to redo the background for the new style). The article pages are stupidly narrow, though, and only take up maybe 30% of the screen. Blegh.

I actually see less ads, though, and it loads much faster for me than it used to (on my shitty dialup connection).

The articles just become horrible. Imo, I'm quite sure wikia just got loads of unhappy users.

Going to see if I can't update the new look style so that the colors match what we had before.

Also, after fiddling with my preferences, we CAN go back to the OLD look. So if you preferred the old look, log in to your account, go to Preferences, then Skins, and select Monaco. That will change it back to the original look if that is what you prefer.

For once I take my courage to write a Whitestar page, and grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Mad

I struggle to make everything look nice etc, and pouf ! my page disepear.
Considering the fact we have a forum here, and a realm forum, I think i'll just not bother with Defiaswiki. Seem useless anyway.
