Quite. I heard some very good arguments on both sides.
I think... I actually learned something... *shock*
I'm loving this community, really

The real question is: why isn't this in the Game Related section?
Interesting topic and a fruitful discussion, at any rate.

That I could agree on.
Even though for these cases, I'd say they regained some of their emotions back, 'cause they spent long enough amongst the living and have someone who wasn't a DK but a pure being, or something like that.
It's kind of hard to have a DK keep their emonotions, when turned into a DK and as about all the Lich King's Scourge, turned into brainless/emotionless killing machines.
I do understand that people might find that sucky, but well in fact that is a basic rule of RPing a DK.
One thing I do like to make clear though.
I'm not one who starts whining at any "weak" RP, when it's robbed in my face. I am one who prefers to give people chances to figure out and kinda learn, how to RP in WoW. This sounds very high leveled, but not intended. Nor neccessary, since as I said before, WoW allows a huge and wide RP platform for someone's character. Because not everything is filled in, only the bigger and massive events.
Most events forms a fundament for RP development, but never restricts to only one possible option. And so does DK RP, wich I tried to make clear in this topic

Agree and disagree.
Many people said valid thing's, yet some simply assume.
There are certain rules. But restricting other people's RP should be a NO-NO top of the list. Its for fun, and fun shouldn't have so many rules..

Be that as it may - I've stopped giving DKs the benefit of the doubt.

Well, if you would like to play it like that Saali. I could say the same about you and the paladin or warrior class...
Mostly the paladin class, tend to RP very OP as well...
You're way too prejudged to even think wider then your own opinion, apperently...
I'm sorry but your reaction made me frown quite deeply.

I prefer to blame you Saali.
I'm not one who blames everyone for a few misfortunes...I blame the certain people who are responsible for the misfortune.
There you have it, Kris prefers to play his class so that it's more realistic.
That's enough to not blame him of OPness...It's just a matter of decent communication and giving chances to those who need it...
It's always easy to say "fuck it, you all are noobs and fucknuts"... /shrug

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
Every single encounter I've had with DKs have been
1: The same old sobstory
2: A horny kiddo
3: People with names like Ostekake (Cheesecake) from Blazing Shields
And let me repeat that. Every single encounter.
I've at least met a handful of decent blood knights *cough*

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
Jeez. I know it's hard to keep the DK's from parading in Cathedral but to hate them is perhaps a tad too far?
It is difficult I think, to RP a DK properly and convincingly. Every quest you do tells you how bad ass you are, then you pop in SW and suddenly that half naked bum on the street expects to have a fair fighting chance. On one hand you're a dark and 'evil' creation... but on the other hand you have your will back and deep down there ... there is still a soul.
What do you do when a dude comes up and hits a DK in the face? I mean hell, the DK went through death, came back to life and fought merciless fights. Suddenly a girly slap in the face should be treated like a blow of special significance.
And if you wield that runeblade that's imbued with the darkest powers available to knights in combat, you end up being ignored.
The key, I think, is to keep the game 'playable' for all parties involved but also to communicate properly -through RP-. A lot of communication can be sent through your emotes.
For example, I once had an ICly obnoxious dwarf (OOCly <3!) ignore commands and strut around uncontrollably, wearing the 'looking for contact' flag. He did so without any emote or notification. As such, it caused OOC confusion and people didn't know if they had to even bother responding to it, feeling 'ignored as RPer'.
Had that same dwarf emoted "DwarfY ignores X and continues to strut around", then he kept the communication open OOCly. The RP is still played, the actions remain the same but the players know what's going on OOCly.
But I guess that comes down to just proper RP and not DK specific RP.

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
Yet, it's the same Jean...
I fully agree with what you just said there.
Another thing I don't quite understand however Saali...
DK's are a "hero" class...That means that DK's pass most classes from the start. It's the way how it's done IC wich allows people to accept an RPer, the same as with DK's...
Also, yes...it's generally quite the sobstory, to be forced into someone else's will...That's how DK's were made and intended.
A horny kiddo, can be found in any RPer and any class...
So that's the weakest argument ever...
Names are a pick of the player and that indeed shows at least where they came from and with what intention they made the character...But every RPer starts off as a lolboy. It's the chance of allowing the player to develop RP and a decent name IC, wich could make the change here.
Before I joined The Venture Co, I was even unknown with the term RP... People explained me what it was and allowed me to develop my RP. And now most RPers know me there as one who enjoys RP and who wishes everyone to be able to enjoy RP.
I agree that most RPers probably don't RP their DK's out well...
But you'll always have that with any class and race.
We could just sit and whine and be all emo about it, or try and help these peeps to develop their RP into something good and enjoyable for everyone. Besides the fact that some people will always have problems with enjoying another's RP at some point, then.

Uh did I miss something? Is that an argument?
Also, yes...it's generally quite the sobstory, to be forced into someone else's will...That's how DK's were made and intended.
No personality traits are intended with DKs. Some are not likely at all, but nowhere does it say that all DKs should be a living embodiment of a My Chemical Romance track.
A horny kiddo, can be found in any RPer and any class...
So that's the weakest argument ever...
When 100% of the DKs I've met have either been the sad/depressed/emo/crying type, or the horny type, or the LOL SEE YA L8R M8S OOPS FORGOT (()) SRY!!-type, then it's actually a pretty good argument.

Then they should ask for a name change, or delete their DK and start over. Most never levels beyond lvl 60 anyway.
Indeed.I agree that most RPers probably don't RP their DK's out well...

Not to the extend that I've seen with DKs.
We could just sit and whine and be all emo about it, or try and help these peeps to develop their RP into something good and enjoyable for everyone.
Knock yourself out.
Well...you do seem to hate the way the DK's are RPed...At least imo...
Kindly stop telling me what I do and don't.
To sum up:
My observation: 100% of DKs that I've encountered have been lolrpers.
Ergo: Whenever I bump into a DK, I go "yeah whatever" and move on.
edit:
I've no doubt that some are able to transcend the stereotypical carboncopy DK, I just haven't met any - and - the more Cheesecakes I meet, the less likely I am to notice them.

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
That's just sad...At least in my case the percentage is lower. I'd day that 9 out of 10 DKs I've ever met behaves as described above. I do agree that it's rather difficult to take any DK seriously after experiencing this since the release of WotLK.Saali wrote:

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
Right Saali.
I've been clear about how too quickly you take your conclusions.
This discussion goes only in rounds and I keep on repeating myself.
If you choose to be this ignorant of DK RPers, without seeing the possibility that there are DK's who -do- try to make DK RP something nice, then I give up on even bothering to respond on your shitty, short-sighted view on this...
You probably were at the wrong place, at the wrong time, when there was DK RP to be found.
Blizzard intended the DK's to be a hero-class and evil. And just like the warlocks and shadow priests, it's possible for them to integrate their emotions again. For they have a will of their own now and are sent amongst the living. Therefor I see your rage against this stuff quite out of place.
As for the way this class is RPed, that just needs time for RPers to figure out. Any class has lol-RPers, maybe the DK class more visibly. When that is noticed these RPers should be poked and helped on a more RP-friendly road, by anyone who feel annoyed and violated by it...
It's what I would do, instead of whining and becoming emo, about how fucked up the -entire- DK RP, or any class's RP community is.
That said, I have repeated myself the last time.
And see this discussion between Saali and me as ended from my part.

Re: How to RP a Death Knight
Well, to add to the pessimism, I think.. That DK RP is back.
We have had two events so far with good turnouts.
Nobody RP's a OP, and whoever does gets told so OOCly.
I just want to say DK RP is alive and well, back on track and hopefully will now continue to flourish with the kind help of everybody participating.

Yarr. It's awesome to see how OP DK RP, is hardly there nowadays. And has been overpowered (pun intended) by the more realistic RP. At least on Alliance side.

It's the userbase, nothing is wrong with the class, we could be having this discussion about warlocks who openly have sex with their minions in public due to the playerbase, the problem is they like DK's
