Well I don't know how editing the stylesheets work on these (I persume) pre-made forum services? but couldn't you just set
body {
background-repeat: no-repeat; // or just repeat-x?
background-color:white;
background-image:url("...");
}
That would fix the repeating gradient? quite easily.

It's not broken, I set it to repeat vertically too, till I can find a more fitting background
