Guild Overview
The Chapter of Holy Anethion is an alliance role-playing guild, a zealous inquisition hunting down heretics and cultist and fighting a long battle against all forms of corruption. We fight from the shadows, in the open, by sword, by word and by light.
The Chapters faith is based on our interpretation of the Holy Light and commitment to protecting human culture and defending human interests.
Our guild is human only, but our restrictions are purely in character and it is possible, but hard and unlikely for other races to join.
The Chapter is no ordinary goody knight guild; our concept is quite dark. The Chapter is not interested in philosophical Good or Evil, simply in eradication of all the enemies and adversaries of humanity. Innocent by law? Well, there is no such thing as innocence. We go after those and that which is evil by our definition and we are pragmatic and merciless to our enemies. Enemies of the Light are our enemies and we offer them no rights, pity or mercy. Although we will always attempt to disguise our grizzly ways with righteousness and propaganda and clothe in a cloak of justice, we will seldom do ‘the right thing’. Weal of humanity is the only thing that matters. We are warmongers, horde-haters and mistrustful of other alliance races to a degree, helping our allies is not a question of Duty, but of mutual benefit.
Light and fanaticism is one half of our concept, reserved to the Inquisition part of the guild, the other half is the desire to make humanity the envy of the world and protect it against all threats. We will promote human culture, human values, speak against cosmopolitanism in Stormwind and cross-racial weddings, but also fall down harshly on criminals. It is Chapter’s cause to champion the case and interest of Humanity (and especially Stormwind) throughout the lands, and unite all men under King Varian.
Chapter and other races:
High elves: Respected
Dwarves: We can work with them as allies and we show them respect if they give so back.
Draenei: Debateable and depending on their faith but they are lesser.
Night elves: heathens
Gnomes: see dwarves
Worgen: see humans
Death Knights: do not like.
Horde: Do not like any of them
The Inquisition:
- Spoiler:
The Vanquisher, leader of the Shadowbreakers.
(underneath the Abbot who is Supreme Lector, Vicar etc.) Arch Lector:
The Master: leader of the Fraeternity, the monks within the Chapter.
The Circlian: leader of the thaumaturge’s and the circle.
Progress within the Chapter of Holy Anethion
- Spoiler:
Progressing within the Chapter of Holy Anethion:
You download Gryphon heart items (GHI) and Total RP2.
You begin in the guild as a canon.
During your canon time of 1 week (provided you are at all online playing, as if not rarely being on line can delay your progression. ) you will study the nine steps, roleplay with the guild, learn proper behavior, greetings etc. If you are found worthy you will be put through two trials.
1. Trial of Faith
2. Personal trial
3. If you are a worgen you will be tested on that too.
If your character passes these two, it will progress onto Aspirant. If the character is found unfit for the guild. We will tell you so, and you will leave the guild. With the opportunity to try with another character more fitting. Unless something else hinders your return.
As an aspirant you will be taken out on tasks, given missions to complete, in order to prove your worth. Other means of proving your worth:
IC events.
Taking on trials of faith.
Through happening roleplay.
Inquiry of Faith.
People will be “evaluated” on their roleplay, participating, their ic combat skills and ability to learn and adapt to the scriptures, protocols, the work they do and general rp.
From Aspirant to –SB,W-H, Lector, Thauma, Monk:
You will have another Inquiry of Faith.
You will be trialled in different ways depending on what path you are taking.
SB-WH-Lector – Monk – Thauma – Lector onto ic officer.
Now this is a bit more tricky. As an Ic officer you will not necessarily be an ooc officer but you will still be expected to be a capable leader, take the right decisions icly and stand for them. It is a rank with responsibility. Not ooc but ic.
IC Officer:
You will not be tasked to lead events, but it is appreciated.
You will need to aid, train, lead and make decisions for those below you. And you will be needed to punish, discipline those below you.
IC and OOC officer:
The ic responsibilities and in addition to them:
The ic reports. Events.
Giving up land when joining the Chapter of Holy Anethion:
Lectors are not like Catholic priests. They can own land, marry, pass their land and property to their children. Being a lector is a job, not a dedication. In fact, if a village has no lector they can have their smartest farmer appointed as one.
Shadowbreakers on the other hand quiet explicitly vow complete renounciation of the self. In fact, they shouldn't even own a name or a face, let stand lands and titles. This is where No-female-vanquisher grows touchy, because Shadowbreakers have no gender! Gender implies some degree of personality!
Monks are indeed devoted to the Chapter so they forfeit everything.
Inquisition is....an issue in itself. Some are doing a job, others are dedicated to the Chapter. So it depends on the individual.
Thaumaturges: Same as the Inquisition when it comes to giving up land.

Infiltrating the Chapter
1. We do not take in characters below level 15.
2. If you join the Chapter to be an infiltraitor and do not tell the superiors (officers )of the Guild and get a clear "yes, that is fine" you will be immideatly guild kicked upon this knowledge being gained IC or OOCLY.
3. If you do not behave oocly, you might face a guild kick.
4. If you betray the Chapter ICLY you will be IC'ly guild kicked.
5. Our guild like said is though, harsh and strickt, so if you do not handle ic punishments done to your character, when needing to be disciplined regardless of the reason then this is -not- the guild for you.
6. If you do have a problem with a member, an officer. Let another officer know, talk it out with that officer and let him or her handle it. Possibly there will be a talk with the people involved through a party chat. Do not walk around causing ooc drama.
7. If you are offline for more than a month you will be g kicked. Unless you give us some kind of notice. If you dont, and do return give us a poke, explain why you have been gone for so long and it might be fixed.
8.Ask permission OOCly before doing something that might cause permanent damage to someones character, or attack them ?
9. All members new and old are required to have GHI (Gryphon heart items) and Totalrp2.
10. People are expected too: Read up on the http://chapteroholyanethion.crazyfruits.net/f31-orders-and-instructions frequently if there are new posts there and keep themselves up to date. Guild meeting info will also be posted in the link here.
Now..
We do not tolerate metagaming done by our members, but we also demand and appriciate pre knowledge and discussions regarding things happening to our guild, that might damage the guild as a whole. We are a though guild to lead, roleplay and handle all over. So if you intend to do something big, ask first.
Other OOC rules:
Absence for over a moment without any warning or information = Guild kick.
If the kicked returns, pokes and wishes to come back = invite.
Anyone Guild Leader, Officers ic.. If absent for too long without a reason = demoted.
Guild leader is to hand over the reins if he or she can not be present as much as needed. The guild leader, as well as the officers needs to have someone appointed to be in “charge”/”hold their position” in their known absence.
If someone goes offline for a longer period and have not given warning or appointed anyone to be in their place in the mean time (provided there is someone fitting and willing), will be demoted.
A fitted person or another solution will be made, to ensure the rp among the guild and decisions are not put on hold for too long due to RL colliding big time. Lethal solutions and decisions that can not wait…. And needs urgent tending will be resolved by any of the other IC officers to the best of their ability.
OOC rules in regards of events affecting the entire guild:
If you as a person allow someone to do something that may affect the entire guild, or has to do with the abbey or placing corpses around in Northshire.. And you have the time to agree to this with non guildies, then you also take the time to through the forum, through in game mail, inform the guild that: "ah yes.. btw... "
3 Strikes System.
Before you read on: Do not be alarmed. This is for serious cases or people who ongoingly icly or icly misbehaves to a serious degree.
Important note:
The strikes be it IC or OOC behavior that leads to it is 3 in total. No matter what!
Another good note to keep in mind: We -Officers - do not have to be online to give you a strike for your IC or OOC behavior. We will hear about it, get screenshots and so on. And we -will- act on it!
OOC strike:
Examples:
Speaking of matters such as incest, pedophilia and so on.
You know when you are disruptive or causing a problem if:
The guild chat turns into a fight, if other members ask you to stop speaking of something, then you do stop!
If you are disrupting RP or "lolling" (being silly OOC'ly during others RP and causing problems with RP events OOC'ly - you will also receive a strike.
Metagaming.
IC :
Lack of discipline, going against the scriptures, speaking against your orders, or refusing to follow them.
Examples:
Not obeying orders from your officers.
Making out with Gwendelyn when not on duty, not married and caught red handed on the court table.
Lack of discipline.
If you attain 3 strikes you will be removed from the guild.
A strike will be removed for every 1 month without further incident.
Exceptions that is good to know which does not make you get a strike:
- In progress
Things that will get you kicked:
If you: break the rules. If you disobey a direct order, if you go against our scriptures on a sever level.
Treason, attempt of destroying the guild will be a kick. On an ic and ooc level.
Acting way out of line, be it ic or ooc is also a kick.
Infiltrating the Chapter of Holy Anethion

We are a though guild to lead, roleplay and handle all over. So if you intend to do something big, ask first.
If you infiltrate the chapter:
1. Contact Melissä first.
2. Do not do so unless you accept your character to die. As it will be killed no debate - if- we catch you.
3. If you do infiltrate and manage to escape (this should be debated PRE HAND) in a logical realistical manner, then its different. Most preffered is if you manage to leave us, before we do catch you. So if you do infiltrate, expect to die. Do not expect some grand plan of escape (not debated first).
4. If you do so as an ic corrupted person (shadow user, fel user etc). Do keep in mind that before an aspirant test, you will be checked for magic. You will also when converting to be a canon needed to drink holy water, checked if you are worgen.
Now we accept worgen, but a shadow or fel user, who hides it, does not list that as a part of their sins doing the ritual of conversion and later is discovered will be in trouble. And when told, you will also need to go through a period of cleansing. Until you are pure.
If you do keep it hidden and aspirancy is about to come on the table and its discovered you will likely find yourself not just cleansed, but spending a lot of time among our witch-hunters being tortured. This will likely lead to them wanting to simply kill you.
5. IF you do join us for the sake of gaining knowledge.. I will simply write it here right out.
Its better to pay an ordinary human (who is not a user of fel, shadow, mage, or a former Scarlet, especially do not send us a non human (as they are usually closed watched and unlikely to at all be allowed among us. ) to do so for you... As it leaves you a grand 50 percent larger survival rate. Treason is treason. Spies will die.. And if you do manage to escape us, or leave us.. And we one day find out "oh that person infiltrated us.." we will -try- to finish you off.. Or if you didnt have enough info that could harm us, we might just shrug it off.
But yes.. Infiltration comes with a price. And IF YOU ARE CAUGHT RED HANDED ICLY. We will kill you. There is absolutly no logical reason to why we wouldnt.
6. We dont have more than one infiltrator at a time. Why? Because we would like to actually keep the amount of members, as correct as possible. This meaning: It was once upon a time 15 active members in the chapter where as 8 of them was in it for the -wrong- reasons I do not want that, hence 1 at a time.
I want to become a Shadowbreaker!
- Spoiler:
"Obeying the Light is the best life one can have, for the Light is all-benevolent and never wills anything that is wrong."
The Chapter of Holy Anethion is an order fanatically devoted to the Holy-Light and the destruction of Evil, in no other path are these two aspects so purely distilled as in the path of the Shadowbreaker-Knight.
A Shadowbreaker, cloaked in both robe and armour, is on the face of it no different to your average knight or paladin, but behind the thin slits of their white great-helm is a being human only in physiology. Shadowbreakers are trained, from the moment they decide to take up the path as an aspirant, to renounce themselves completely; to become tools of the Holy-Light wielded by the Holy-Light.
This complete renunciation of the Self is at the core of Shadowbreaker roleplay, but what does it look like in practice? It lends to the character, a particular worldview in which the Sacred Duty is the absolute goal of their existence, they give up their personal property, live a communal life in the Abbey, swear unbreakable oaths and live forever behind a helmet; a Faceless Defender of Mankind. Consequences matter little to the Shadowbreaker; the only thing that is important is that an Act itself is in accordance with Anethionean (and therefore the Light's) law and the Shadowbreaker's own knightly integrity; if a Shadowbreaker had to make even the slightest concession to 'darkness' to save the world, they would turn their nose up at the proposition and happily meet their maker with a pure conscience. What they would prefer however, is to destroy the evil outright and utterly.
Such fierce piety, of course, will often lead to combat. The Shadowbreakers are after-all, the knightly militant arm of the Inquisition. Often you will have your fellow Shadowbreakers by your side, other times you will not, but you will undoubtedly find yourself in a situation where you must, this means emote-battles; you'll be trained in this aspect of roleplaying as an aspirant, but as a Shadowbreaker they will often be either much longer, or much messier than in training.
When to become a Shadowbreaker:
You enjoy both knightly and religious roleplay!
You like and want to immerse yourself in the concept of a fierce, intolerant brotherhood of holy-knights; patrolling city-streets and stalking the land in search of heretics to cut down!
You want your character involved in a goal 'bigger' than himself and day-to-drudgery
You like to roleplay as part of a group and not feel as though you are simply merging into the background
When not to become a Shadowbreaker:
You dislike uniforms
You think your character is untouchable and do not take responsibility for any IC acts that might get you ICly punished
You cannot stand emote battles
You dislike gruesome scenes being role-played out in some detail
You do not like encountering new RPers and prefer to RP among a circle of friends and people you trust
“With faith as firm as the steel he wields into battle.”
From his initiation into the order he is subject to a thorough regimen of indoctrination that has forged his already-considerable faith into something truly unbreakable. He is taught to shirk from mortal concerns, taught to view them as damning sins; a pathological fear of death is transformed into a form of selfless courage that tells him that martyrdom is the ultimate expression of devotion to the Light. He no longer fears when or how his passing will come, only that he dies with a clear conscience and a strong faith. After all, his worldly labours will be rewarded tenfold in Heaven!
This uncompromising perspective is applied to all that he does and all that he meets. Often a Shadowbreaker will take the mantra of being an ‘instrument of the Light’ to its severe and logical conclusion, convinced that his every action is guided by the Light’s invisible hand. These knights would wade happily into a crowd of townsfolk, axe first, and trust in the Light to miraculously deliver the innocent from his blade.
He views failure as an omen that he has lost favour with the Light. It is not uncommon for Shadowbreakers, convinced of this, to throw themselves into suicidal acts of penance and self-sacrifice; for example, a Shadowbreaker once marched into Deadwind Pass, laid down his banner and battled any challenger that appeared until he fell, redeemed by a glorious death.
- Spoiler:
This Inquisition Codex contains all information you will need to progress as a witch-hunter in the Chapter of Holy Anethion and to gain fame and rewards if you are willing to participate in investigative role-play.
Investigation and puzzle-solving are at the core of the Inquisition-concept. Both activities require a lot of work and a lot of patience. Anybody aspiring to be an Inquisitor will have to display those qualities both IC and OOC. It is however possible as a witch-hunter to go down the path of a silent assassin eliminating cultists and warlocks, but even then, you will be required to learn the very basics of Investigation and do at least the bare minimum of it.
What does Investigation look like in practice? It means observing the situation around you, and making notes of what you learn. These notes must later on be turned into a report which is to be passed to the High Inquisitor. Taking investigation a step further, beyond this basic necessity, is actually looking for information and going after people who may have it. It means analyzing the situation, drawing conclusions, finding people who know what you need and getting that information out of them. At the top rung of investigative role-play stands the case-making, to combine countless reports and observations made by you and by others together, and conclude them with a crushing trial where you prove beyond doubt the guilt of the criminals you observed.
Being a member of the Inquisition also means Combat. You will end up in tight situations where you may need to fight your way out; sometimes you will even be sent out to fight an enemy of the Chapter. Combat, in practice, always means emote battles. Some of them can be long, some of them can be messy. It is possible to go about Inquisition-business without too many fights, but there will always be a few you must participate in.
At last, there is the torture and execution. The Chapter of Holy Anethion is very serious about immersion, and those unsavory activities are part of a genuine inquisition-experience. You may be able to avoid doing them yourself very often, but you must be ready for often gruesome descriptions and emotes of death and torture.
Although this is true for the whole guild, it is especially true for the Inquisition: if you join it, you do it because you enjoy the concept of role-playing a witch-hunter. This means that you must be independent in your every-day role-play, you must be active. There are always things for you to hunt down or to investigate, even if you are not given a specific order. You are responsible for the good deal of your own role-play!
When to become a Witch-hunter:
You enjoy investigative role-play
You like the theme of the inquisition, and want to create an immersive experience for yourself and for others
You enjoy interacting with new players, and are ready to adapt for and tolerate those who may have different views of role-play and be on a different level of their progress as a role-player
You enjoy creating role-play for yourself and others, instead of joining in on existing events
When you should not become a Witch-hunter:
You mind doing the actual work of writing down and sending the reports
You think that investigation and puzzle-solving is dull
You cannot stand emote-battles
You dislike gruesome scenes being role-played out in some detail
You prefer to keep your role-play circle limited to people you know and trust
You do not wish to be bothered with other views of role-play, people who are poorer role-players than you and simply people who may be easy to anger, take defeat personally and otherwise make a scene.
Among the Chapter of Holy Anethion a Witch-Hunter have several different styles to work under. However, the main task of a Witch-Hunter is to work in the shadows, gather information, remove needed targets and to balance on a razor blade, risking his or her own soul, by committing sin by doing the Sacred Duty.
What you need to know:
Members of the Inquisition often operate alone or with a handful of assistants. It is important for every operative to be self-sufficient and capable of taking initiative and acting properly without orders. Personal initiative is the force that can keep the Inquisition effective on an ever-changing battlefield, and an operative reliant on orders and instructions is a liability.
Information is the main weapon of war fought by the Inquisition. We must be capable of identifying potential sources of information at a glance and judging their reliability objectively. Information must be extracted through the correct methods and weighted against any other information. We must keep our minds sharp and open to piece together the complicated puzzles that may lead to uncovering evil in our midst.
Despite what path one does take among the Witch-Hunters all of them are expect to know the basic of each path, they may specialize in one or two, but all the ground work that enables the Witch-Hunters to do their duty, is a must be done, by all.
And do you like hats???

Re: Chapter of Holy Anethion
So you want to be a Lector/Lectress
I want to become a Thaumaturge:
I want to become a Monk:
Also of possible interest:
Guides and Lore
Northshire Library
- Spoiler:
“The word of Anethion shall conquer even the highest mountaintops; but we shall bring it there”
Appearance:
Lectors are men and women of the cloth, and are usually seen wearing robes and hoods and staves which reflect their prelature rank. Humblest Lectors wear simple linen robes, most influential wear elaborate white & black robes of the Chapter. The highest esteemed and ranked lectors wear black robes, shoulders and cloaks.
Concept:
Lectors are zealous preachers and evangelists of Anethionean cause; but preaching is not all that they do. It would happen so that the clergy are the intellectual elite of the Chapter, as a result of this many Lectors perform non-religious duties such as diplomacy, administration and ‘public relations’ (propaganda), politics. . Most zealous of the Lectors would join the Inquisition where they will listen to the forced confessions of the torture-victims and speak the final prayers, some aids the Inquisition in ways they will never speak of publicly. For this there are many ranks among the lectors and they are trained in all the duties regardless of their chosen special path.
Some lectors still take up heavy battle-robes and charge into battle to assist the Chapter forces with the powers of the Holy Light.
People underestimate the clergy, they see them as zealous fanatics with their head up in the clouds; that is not true, especially not when it comes to Chapter Lectors. Many of the Lectors have superb education in theology, law, history, arts and sciences. The Chapter relies on them for policy-making among other things, but also investigations of various artifacts and pieces of lore. In the end it is better to think of Lectors as of learned scholars who double as priests, rather than simple preachers.
Requirements and Training:
Lectors are expected to know the Holy Scripture and Book of Recitations and be able to apply and preach the doctrine whenever appropriate. Education in other intellectual fields is also important. Depending on the current needs the Chapter might prefer zealous preachers or calm scholars, ruthless confessors or experienced battle-priests.
(warrior priest)
Most likely candidates:
Battle priests, willing to fight for the cause of the chapter
Zealous preachers, who think that the Church is just too moderate
Intellectuals, who choose to stay in touch with the faith
Fanatics, preferring to smite unbelievers with eloquent speech rather than a big hammer
‘Evil’ priests, seeking to rule the masses through religion
The confessor:
Any lector gained its title as an ordained lector, will take confessions of people in need, hear the confession of the members of the order. But it takes a certain trust before a lector is allowed to take part of the interrogation of prisoners. Once a lector have shown its worth to the Inquisition it is allowed behind the closed doors of the catacombs.
The politician:
The lectors are expected to ensure the Chapter are kept out of trouble, to clear their name in the time of need and keep their “alliances” intact, smoothing out situations that have got out of hand and ensure to break down any false claims, fight their enemies with word and facts. This is where their studies come into play. A lector must have a slick tongue, a quick mind and enough facts and knowledge, skills of manipulation making them capable of talking the Chapter out of trouble.
The exorcist:
Any lector needs to be able to perform an exorcism, but it is not until they have accomplished an exorcism that they will gain the title exorcist.
The torturer:
Not many of the lectors are at all interested in the learning how to torture, most of them will even decline being thought how too. Still they are expected to study the book of torture, know the basics of how and when. Publicly this is not a title they will use, it is a title used among their own, a title hard to gain. A lot is at stake for the Inquisition when it comes to bringing the lectors that close into their own work. The trust is of essence, which is why when a lector is truly allowed to take on such tasks for the Inquisition, they will have gained their trust, proved their use and worth. And a lector breaking the confidentiality of the Inquisitional work, even during an Inquisitorial trial among their own without consent of the Grand Inquisitor will be killed on the spot, as a traitor.
Books that the lectors should have:
- The book of Rites – (W.I.P)
Contains all the rites among the order, except for those of each path.
Inquiry of faith.
The book of Exorcism.
Book of Revelations
Book of Conversion
I want to become a Thaumaturge:
- Spoiler:
Thaumaturge
”The power of magic is Light's gift to the blessed, it is our duty to wield it with wisdom and restraint and deny it to those who would abuse it or turn it against us.”
Appearance:
Thaumaturges wear robes embroidered with arcane symbols and set with metal and gemstones foci. In battle they rely on their powerful magic augmented by an enchanted greatstaff set with a potent focus, in peace they wield a long wand that permits great precision with the arcane.
Concept:
Thaumaturges seamlessly combine the study of the Arcane with great faith in the Light, they view the Arcane as a gift the Light bestowed upon those It trusted to responsibly wield the power to shape and affect creation. Magic is a double-edged sword, it is a great tool in the careful hands and a terrible menace when wielded by a fool.
The College if Mysteries, the collective name of the Thaumaturges, study the arcane, uncover lost spells and methods and research new ones. The thaumaturges always stand ready to implement the arcane magic for the benefit of humanity. Yet they also police magic and are eager to destroy those who wield it irresponsibly and are adamant in putting dangerous knowledge and artefacts under lock and key.
The College fiercely opposes the Kirin Tor's monopolization of magic in the hands of a clique of Archmages driven by thirst for knowledge for its own sake rather than the greater good. A thaumaturge will always seek to spread his world-view of Magic and Faith united to others and convince more magi to follow this path.
Role and duties:
Thaumaturges work closely with the Chapter, debriefing men after their sacred assignments and seeking out new weakness in the enemies of the Light. Should the Chapter's forces be pushed back in battle by a new spell or a powerful being, the thaumaturge will find a means to counter it and ensure triumph in the future. Whether in war or in peace, the thaumaturges are always eager to put magic in the service of humanity.
When in battle, the thaumaturges use their great knowledge of Abjuration to protect and support their fellow faithful against the enemies and when dealing with demons, undead and their mortal servants they rain fire and death against these foes.
Thaumaturges combine magic and prayer in their Divinations, where they will enter an arcane trance and roam the abstract realm of pure knowledge. In that world of infinite possibilities and alternatives, the Holy Light is their guide and companion to avoid the perils and find what needs to be found. The thaumaturge trusts the Light to show them what they must see, rather than forcing the magic to show them what they want to see. Trained diviners are great aid to the inquisition, as they can obtain knowledge unavailable by other means.
The College is fierce in its shepherding of magic and Thaumaturges will often go on patrols, sniffing out dangerous magical artefacts or traces of abuse of the arcane. These searches may lead to crawls in long-abandoned dungeons to retrieve lost and dangerous lore or in arrests of rogue and irresponsible wizards.
Training:
Magic must always be held in check by Faith. All thaumaturges begin their training as devout monks, cultivating virtue and purity of faith. Some thaumaturges are ex-lectors who felt the call of the Arcane and began their training, others knew arcane before they joined. The latter are expected to wield the bare minimum of magic needed to keep addiction in check during that period.
When their Faith is deemed sufficient, these men become thaumaturge-aspirants and are taught in the basic evocation and the theory of magic before continuing to the study of the Three Noble Schools of Abjuration, Divination and Enchantment. When their mastery of these schools is deemed sufficient, the thaumaturges move to study of more dangerous and sinful magic of Transmutation, Illusion and Evocation.
Full thaumaturges who are deemed knowledgeble and faithful enough are taught the theory of the forbidden schools of Conjuration, Necromancy and Demonology.
Likely candidates:
–
–
Divination – sanctioned metagaming
Divination is a great plot-tool and story-device. Thaumaturges can use visions to inspire searches for artefacts and relics, patrols for monsters and rogue wizards and even uncover cultists and their secrets. In latter case, a little OOC communication can be of great aid. If you look up the 'sleeping trait' thread on defiasRP, you will notice how many hints and visions Monrena received – and she was just one person on the fringe of RP. Unlike her, the Chapter actually has the power to come in force and act on visions!
The Spell Race
Bad guys always have OP magic. This gives Thaumas an ideal ground to be creative on. Working on counter-measures can be great fun! Did a cultist just use the Awesome Spell of Pure Pwnage to escape jail? Thaumaturges will find a way to counter it in the future! Most of the time counter-measures can be figured out easily from the spell itself, in other cases some OOC communication is required. Lets not even discuss magical traps and wards!
Sargeras vs Aspirant
You can't send a fresh Shadowbreaker aspirant against a real Pit Lord. Both Pit Lords and Shadowbreakers are rather rare and the Chapter is not always able to find the former or willing to risk the latter. Thauma's to the rescue! Illusion Magic can be used to create an artificial training environment where an aspirant can fight Sargeras himself, die horribly in battle and wake up on a grassy field without a scratch!
I want to become a Monk:
- Spoiler:
The Fraternity of the Chapter (Anethionean Monks)
'The Fraternity of the Chapter. They are warm and peaceful from the outside, but zealotry hides within its core…'
Intro
The Fraternity of the Chapter is a group of close brothers under the Light who share the same spiritual and martial mindset: The ways of the Anethionean Monk. It’s a new order within the Chapter of Holy Anethion, lead by a single Master. The first Master of this Anethionean Fraternity is a Scarlet Crusade deserter, who converted to the ways of Anethion and intergrated the ways of the Monk in the chapter, with a style altered to his own ideals.
Appearance
The Anethionean Monk dons himself in a humble attire of lesser quality fabrics, self-made by The Fraternity. He wears no shoes, black pants, a black belt, a white shirt, the White Cross tabard, the White Cross necklace and a black headband. When they have time to prepare theirselves for battle, they prefer to equip a white hood including mask. Everything is entirely made out of cloth. The monk dresses himself in this manner due to their denial of wealth and luxury. Additionally, the set of clothes works perfect alongside their martial arts.
Furthermore, the monk may choose his own weapons to specialize in, but these too are not of the finest quality. Wood, copper and perhaps iron are the main resources for their arsenal. Finally, the monk is required to be bald, because there’s no need for vanity. The Fraternity knows no female members as of now. It is believed that the Master deems them too emotional compared to men. The same goes for worgen.
Mindset
The Fraternity has their own little subculture within the Chapter. They respect their sisters of the Chapter greatly, yet they are not allowed to become one of the Fraternity. It is only destined for men, for their way of fighting requires a lucid and positive mind. According to the current Master, a woman is more a subject to negative emotions than a man.
The Fraternity has also abandoned most luxury, wealth, vanity and pleasure. Never would you find a Monk claiming a coin. Never would you find him with a delicious wine. Never would you find a Monk in love with another woman (nor man). They believe that such matters guide them away from their sacred duty, their martial training and spiritual well-being. They find their own resources in the wilds and conduct what ever they need. They do not drink wine or ale, they do not feast on meat. These are distraction that will only disturb their way of life. You will find that Anethionean Monks only drinks water and eats bread. They also drink tea, for they believe this enhances their minds and lets them be in more touch with the Light.
The Fraternity is spending galleons of time on spiritual matters, like meditation, prayer, tests of faith (regardless of rank). They are mentally reinforced. The rest of time is spent on perfecting their combat skills. Their combat-style is a difficult one to master. Thus they are being taught that negative emotions obscur your focus. This is why the Monks tend to be seen as kind, polite and warm, even during battle. Strict discipline is expected regardless (they’d make up for proper diplomats and ambassadors).
They basicly spend more time on their selves rather than in the universe, so that when they tend to their sacred duty, they do so perfectly. Other than all of this, they are on par with the Chapter.
Combat
But do not be mistaken by the positive energy of the monk. Although he will do so with a friendly smile, the Anethionean Monk has dangerous agile assets to vanquish his foes. Usually a Monk tries to solve a matter with his tongue first, seeing combat as a last resort. But when they deem the time to be right for combat, they know it’s a necessity to fight and will, by faith in the Light, head on relentlessly and mercilessly.
The Monk fights with his fists and feet in exotic, swift and dangerous ways. They’re specialized in taking their foes out swiftly by breaking bones, grappling, locking, wrestling, deadly high kicks, swift punches, take downs, submissions and evasive movements. They master a variety of stances for efficient offense and defense, and to confuse their enemies. This combined with a weapon makes them a contender not to underestimate.
Due to their high spiritual bond with the Light, in grim times during the fight against shadows, demons and the walking dead, they are calling upon the Holy Light. Kicks and punches blazing of Holy Fire are used frequently to counter the dark magical arts.
Duties
Besides focusing on their own spiritual and martial training, the Monks of the Chapter have some more duties to tend to, such as lesser-alchemy/brewery (soothing tea / poisons for the inquisition / minor pain-killing potions etc), doing canon chores when there's a lack of canons (maintaining the abbey and shire, sometimes the Stormwind Cathedral or Stormwind too), tending to charity and to aid/assist lectors with their duties when needed, or shadowbreakers with their duties when needed or witch-hunters, when their help is needed.
A monk can choose to aid the shadowbreakers, the witch-hunters and the lectors, or just one of them.
A monk aiding the shadowbreakers:
1. Follow them on patrols.
2. Aid them in battle.
A monk aiding the witch-hunters
1. Help them meditate on clues they have found.
2. Come along to track their target
3. Help the Witch-Hunters slow down and find the answers on their own.
A monk aiding the lectors:
1. A monk shall never ever hear/take a person’s confession. This is for Lectors -only-.
2. A monk can guard a lector on his or her way to a certain location and function as his or her guard during a meeting.
3. A monk can act as a guard instead of a Shadowbreaker during an exorcism.
4. In duties of the lector such as (conversion is something anyone can do. ). spreading of faith, some political dealings, tending to the faith of our order. The monk may very well himself choose if he wants or does not want to do this.
It should be an individual choice if the monk wishes to both aid the lectors, the witch-huntersand the shadowbreakers, or which of the three he wishes to aid.
The Anethionean Monks are also the crafters of the Chapter of Holy Anethion. They sew the lector robes, the Shadowbreaker robes and they make the armour of the Shadowbreakers as well as everyone's weapons. This is for both the physical training, and their holy duty, they do not charge anyone for anything, but it is part of their lifestyle. Purity through hard work is one of their values
Leadership
The Fraternity will be led by a Master when there is a suiting one to do so, but he is only there to train and guide the monks and nothing more. Until there is a Master rising among the monks, they will work side by side with each other, train together and study. The Grand Inquisitor is the one holding supreme power over the Monks. The Fraternity is new within the chapter, and thusly still needs to earn its trustworthiness and respect

I LIKE HATS!
And I like this thread, really fantastic post.
Tempted to create a Chapterian (suck it) but it'd be a traitorous act indeed.

That was a serous request.
I'm thinking about a new character concept, and I think the chapter could play a great role in her introduction into the world.
