[Ongoing] The Story of Kalimdor
Upcoming open events:
Arrival in Astranaar (27.04.11 – Late Evening)
On Wednesday the 27th Elven and Draenei forces arrive in Ashenvale, chasing after the fleeing mastermind behind the attack on Darnassus. The trace is lost, and the heroes get mired down in a search for clues in a land torn by war.
Kalimdor role-play has always been dominated by individual guilds, with their in-guild events, occasional open events and purely casual Role-play. We have decided to try and create a Story for Kalimor, a large event to frame our subplots and casual role-play; a story to give us something to role-play about. The story is meant to be broad enough to allow different characters to participate in their unique ways, as well as for different guilds to make their guild-flavored subplots.
This Story of Kalimdor is launching with two closed events on Thursday and Monday, and will then progress as an ongoing open event which will hopefully keep us busy throughout the summer! This event is meant for Elf and Draenei role-players, but other races and guilds may join as they see fit as long as they realize that this event is elf/draenei-centered.
Overarching Story Overview - 1st half
Even with the forces of the Alliance and the Horde storming the gates of the Bastion of Twilight, the idea of the Hammer is far from gone. A small group of high-ranked cultists have spent months building up support in Elven Lands, and now they are ready to strike. Realizing that the druids pose a serious threat to the Twilight schemes, they are launching a daring attack at the very heart of the Elven society: Darnassus.
Following the brave defense of Darnassus, the cultists are chased to their bases in Darkshore and from there to Ashenvale, where the trail is lost. For a while the defenders of Kalimdor will stay in and around Ashenvale, looking for clues to the whereabouts and doings of the audacious cultists and the vile mastermind behind the attack, while fighting back other threats such as the horde.
What to do during this Story?
When the story goes open on Wednesday next week, we will use Astranaar as a hub and focus our role-play on Ashenvale and surrounding lands (Felwood and Azshara). Every week we will work on moving the main story forwards with mini-events, some of which look favorable…while others are meant to give the good guys something to worry about.
Meanwhile individual guilds participating in the event will make their own guild-flavored half-open events in the region to keep role-play going for their members, as well as others.
Events aside, we will work on encouraging casual and spontaneous role-play interaction. Having a hub is first step, but at times we will just throw in some unexpected occurrence to trigger a reaction and a response from people. For instance, a not-so-good character can suddenly get approached by a Twilight recruiter offering power, or routine patrol can run into unexpected trouble. We will intrude into role-play in this way, but only with the consent of those we disturb of course. So no need to worry!
At last, the zones are open to your imagination. Guilded or not, you can organize your own role-play and events, be it archeological expedition or a traveling tradesman.
At last: the story is guided, not scripted. We will meet every week to discuss the story and the subplots, and develop them based on the role-play done in the previous week. You can change the world!
How to join?
If you are an alliance individual looking for casual role-play or spontaneous role-play, you can just drop by and get role-playing. Guilds who want to participate should give me or Natures Grasp or Winterblades officers a poke in-game to allow us to incorporate you best into the story.
Horde should take contact as well, although casual, unarranged clashes from Role-playing guilds are allowed provided:
-You do not stage them during scheduled events
-You avoid attacking hubs directly
-You respect alliance role-players by adjusting a bit: keeping numbers and levels on par, pretending not to see them if they try their best to hide, overall just keep in mind their fun as well as yours.
The Story So Far
To be updated after Thursday’s event
With thanks to Ilrendir, Eliinör, Sheyton, Shaktaekurte, Nelari and Sorayah for their help in organizing and discussing this event, and to The Forlorn Cartel, Chapter of Holy Anethion and Ravenholdt Sanctuary for volunteering to help with the kick-start event on Monday!
