The tale of the Oni.

Once upon a time in a far away land lived a village child named Ume'pow, or just Ume for short. Her life was mostly about taking care of the village's trees and plant life. Each and every morning to noon she would wander around the small village, giving them water when none came from the sky, weeding the ground, occasionally chasing away critters and preying to the spirits within.
Her life was not one of excitement nor was it one of adventure, yet she was content with this. Taking care of the plants around the village was considered an honor, and by doing so she gave food to her family however small it might be.

However this life was not meant to last, for one day Ume's mother passed away, and instead of taking care of the plants she rushed to her family's side to aid them in their grief. Days became weeks which soon after became a month. With none taking care of the tree it was weakened and thirsty, and with none praying to the tree it became a target for the local Oni. And as predicted they took the chance and possessed the tree.
