[A] The Holy Inquisition
The Holy Inquisition
It is only through our greatest trials, that we gain true strength and Faith. Like the smith at his forge, we must be tempered by flame and water, and forged into a righteous force of the Light. It is only when we are strong and faithful, righteous in the Light, that we can cleanse others of their sins and turmoil. When the roots are strong, the tree will stand long, and tall, and will weather all troubles.
From Faith, I gain Light.
From Light, I gain Compassion.
From Compassion, I Gain Strength.
Unity in Faith. Faith in Light.
An extract from the Lesson of Light by High Inquisitor Bertrand.
Who are we?
The Inquisition is a fanatical Light guild, who will begin by stamping out any corruption in the Holy Church. They will aim to question and cleanse the priests and paladins of the Church, before turning their eyes towards the rest of the City – the guards, the civilians, and the scum on the streets. When the church is strong, the rest will fall. We will be forged into a single people, a single weapon of the Light.
We will stamp out the unbelievers.
We will cleanse the corrupted and those tainted by dark magic.
And if they cannot be converted or cleansed, we will burn them.
Ranks
Sympathisers – General civilians who sympathise with the Inquisition and their goals, but do not wish to pledge themselves towards it. The simple shopkeepers who offer discounts to those doing Holy Work.
Canon – The newest members of the Inquisition, who have not yet affirmed their belief in the Light, or are undergoing cleansing for their sins. Once their devoutness has been proven, when their souls are humble and cleansed in the Light, will they become Enlightened.
The Enlightened – Members of the Inquisition who have proven their devout and humble souls. These are the members who have undergone the Test of Faith, and passed through the Flames of Light. These members have yet to progress towards a higher purpose.
The Witch Hunters – These are the members who will hunt down, and cleanse those who use the darkest magics – the Fel-tainted who consort with demons, the Shadow fiends who corrupt the minds of the innocent. If they cannot be cleansed with Water and prayer, they will be cleansed by Fire.
The Inquisitors – These are the few who will actively go around and question the members of the Church, and later, the city. They will ensure that the rest of the Inquisition remain strong and devout to the Light, and to the cause. They will listen to the sins of the repentant, and cleanse them of their sins.
The High Inquisitors – The real power of the Inquisition. Men and Women firm and strong in their faith, who have endured every trial and been forged from the experience.
Can I join?
Any member of the Alliance, who wish to affirm their faith solely in the Light, may join. All classes are accepted, with the sole exception of Death Knights. Sorry, chaps, but such defiled beings as yourselves are the anti-thesis of the Light, and should be put down like the scum you are. *cough, cough*.
Who should I contact?
Contact me on Manoch, Kelten, or Demurral. If you are unable to get ahold of me through those characters, talk to the Cartel officers, they have my Real ID.
Current Status of the Inquisition:
29/01 - The Inquisition is running through logistics, accepting new canons to the order, and preparing to question members of the Disciples of Light for signs of blasphemy against the Light. Currently acting in a more lenient matter in regards to this.

So long as their devotion is towards the Light above any particular supposed prophets. If this particular person just -happens- to have a particular fondness for a supposed prophet, that would not be something worrisome. We all have our favourite teachings.Morgaan wrote:Hmm.. would a Anethionean be welcome here?

It seems that, while there is interest in seeing a guild like this around, there is only a minimal amount of interest in joining. Two weeks since creation, with the attempts ive made at generating interest, I've only had on person join. Im currently working on more recruitment things, but if theres no improvement, I honestly don't think the idea will take off.

:c shame, I know Morgaan and I were interested in the idea, were going to come down to join once she re-subbed.

I still think the idea is dumb as the church would not do this, but if you need help then the Lex will not abandon his champions.

An initial, quiet investigation to see if Benedictus had a greater influence on the Church than at first realised? I think we all could forsee that.Lexgrad wrote:I still think the idea is dumb as the church would not do this, but if you need help then the Lex will not abandon his champions.
The same organisation trying to remove all but the most fanatical worshippers from the church, before trying to force it upon the rest of the Alliance? The Church might denounce it then.
(Assuming that they don't officially denounce it, but unofficially allow it to continue. More worshippers = more donations to the church = the church being richer.)

Re: [A] The Holy Inquisition
I'll just comment that people are not always so ready to join a potentially villainous guild. Especially not one that focuses on the light. This is just the case, isn't it? A guild that starts off doing the right thing, but later gets overzealous and becomes feared and resented by everyone around.
I'd say our best bet, Dem, is to try to get the surviving folks of the Chapter interested in the idea.
As I understand, the end goal is "tyranny in the name of purity of faith". Most players might have trouble playing the role of a tyrant that honestly believes he's one of the good guys, they usually go for a more chaotic evil approach if they want a villain.
Well, this is mostly useless info, I suppose, but I'm just trying to shed light on the reasons why people might not want to so readily jump on the inquisition bandwagon.

So wait, those that survived all what happened after the march of the Shadowbreakers, they are not wanted criminals/cultists now? I don't quite understand, does that mean that Morgaan can freely walk around in her Shadowbreaker garb, even tho her fellow Shadowbreakers did storm SW keep and killed our precious Abbot heretic?

See, the whole "Deluded, thinks they're truly in the right" thing is like my favourite thing to RP. Even my first char (power-mad Kael-following Blood-Elf Magistrix) still thought she was doing the best thing for her race.
I'll just quietly cry over everyone's universal habits of making more guard/mercenary guilds

Give it a try. Just give it the good old guilt trip puppy eyes if anyone asks, or the firm "Totaly not my fault". Bad memory of people or other stuff seemed to have worked for some.

Re: [A] The Holy Inquisition
From what I can recall - after the Shadow-breaker Attack, the worship of Anethion was outlawed, and all members were to be arrested on sight.
Of course, its been several years since, with no word of the Chapter or its members. A Shadow-breaker could return, though it may not be wise to mention Anethion.
As to the guild itself - If we refer to the D&D system, they would be Chaotic Good. Their aims are admirable, from one point of view, but the means by which they force it are in question.

I imagine even if these people are part of the church, they can still do their 'extreme' stuff without the church necessarily approving it - they're just not aware of their methods.
Also I hope you succeed.

Regettably, no.thedude wrote:Is this guild still active? :O
While the idea held promise, and there was enough interest to see this guild work, there just was / isn't enough interest from people to actually take part. People wanted to -see- this guild and concept around, and react to it, more than they wished to take part. Which is understandable.
