Holy Inquisition

Mostly a concept for now, but I'm looking for potential interest and leadership roles.

The Holy Inquisition will be a splinter force from the Church of the Holy Light, run in a similar vein as the Chapter of Holy Anethion previously. Their goal - to stamp out -all- usage of Shadow and Fel magic from the Alliance, completely. Armed with the power of the Holy Light, their fanatical devotion, and prayer, they will begin the purge, recognising the Holy Light as the only authority.


The Holy Decrees:
Anyone caught using, or having been altered or corrupted by dark, forbidden, or dangerous magic shall be branded a Heretic to the Light.
Anyone caught aiding or abetting a Heretic, shall be themselves declared a Heretic to the Light.
Anyone who, through thought, action or words, spread dissent or otherwise attempts to impede or oppose the Inquisition, and by extension, the Light itself, shall be declared a Heretic against the Light.
All Heretics will repent from their crimes, and be cleansed of their sins. Those who unable or unwilling to repent, or to be cleansed, shall be purged by Holy Water and Flame.

The Inquisitors - The questioning, detaining, and inquisitive side of the guild. May also be forced to walk around the city, preaching about the evils of sin and dark magic.
The Witch Hunters - the ones charged with purging the heretics who refuse to repent, or refuse to be cleansed of their corruption and their sins.

No one expects... THE HOLY INQUISITION!

This will be great. It should be like the Witch Burnings in medieval England. Makes me want to play my lock again!

Aaaanyway. The idea itself? Love it. I have a character I was preparing for RP who would fit PERFECTLY into the "Witch Hunter" role. Hell, I even put his class down as Witch Hunter. Will participate if this idea gets off the ground.

I really like this idea! I have a priest that would love to be a part of this.

The only thing I would say is that I dont think the church of light would sanction such a group and nor would the state of SW. Which you need both really as inquisitions with out state support never work. Plus inquisitions were almost always reactionary to a heresy which has not happened in Wow.

I would try to make sure the group fitted in aswell as it could with lore, maybe they would not be allowed at first to hurt anyone and that can grow with time or w/e. Also rather than shadow/fel why not make your primary target the church itself. After benedictus im sure people wonder how many were with him and there are loads of paladins and priests you can bully into orthodoxy.

All that i can offer is Skarain as a Heretic to hunt at events and general interaction.

I fully wish this concept gathers enough interest and goes through.

The hate between the Church of light and Elune is inconsequential.

The Hate between the Catholic church and the Cathars for example led to a Crusade.

Im just saying the Church of light isnt that zealous.

Still Lex, we should not let that interfere with what would be an awesome idea.

In regards to several different comments to this:
Lex - Of course, I wouldn't start off immediately forcing these things through, that would be the end goal. I'd hope for a snowball like effect, where they end up investigating the very members of the Light who are -not- Inquisitors for corruption. The group could always be sanctioned when it first starts - to investigate and cleanse those corrupted by Shadow and Fel. Eventually, they could build up the other side of events - and when the Church attempts to remove the sanction, claim that their members -must- have been corrupted, and investigate.

Nick - Pandaren Worship could always be restricted to the Enclave only. Worgens could be viewed as sacrilegious for remaining in their cursed, druidic state. We can always claim that remaining in that form is sacrilegious against the body that the light granted them!

Keep in mind - This is a concept right now. Nothing is set in stone, which is why I'm reaching out for ideas on how to run this effectively!

Yeah inquisitions had a habit of starting quite normally and then spiraling out of control. I would still suggest that you start by making them appointed to investigate the church and then have them expand to the population, it would suit that narrative of being sanctioned as it would not be objectional to lore, I would assume the church has a body policing itself.

There seems to be a fair amount of interest in the idea, so!
Before I create the guild proper, and write out the entire concept properly -Does anyone have anything they wish to add or change regarding the concept so far? I'd like to start off with a good basis.

As a follower of the way of balance between Chaos and Order (and thinking that evil doers need some help at the moment), I would like to join as a "traitor", "spy", you name it. I could have the charr arrested/killed off in a month or so, it would be a no problem.
