If someone uses /eyeroll IC I want to pour acid on stuff. This also works with this one particular RPer (its lolbane) who uses /facepalm a lot.
That does feels better
I -generally- avoid using any direct wow implemented emotes, and most of my stuff works within /e written stuff simply cause I can't bring myself to use the animations of the chars, even the old ones. Also I just generally enjoy writing out a direct facepalm in a more descriptive manner, than just doing /facepalm.

This.
I also sometimes notice that I use the same damn adjective in emotes all the time even if they don't make real sense.
For example "Nods lightly." "laughs lightly." "shrugs lightly" "Grins lightly" "Smirks lightly" Then when I get bored of lightly I move on to another word. Like gently.

Drives me crazy as well, but I keep on doing it. Sometimes I end up just going the lazy path and being "Slightly" instead xD

Edit: I don't like Joffery from Game of Thrones. I still watch the show...
It isn't conflating ic and ooc to back out of an Rp you're not enjoying though. I mean one time someone went "...yeah not feeling it sorry" five seconds into an Rp so I went off and did something else - I dunno if they disliked what my character was doing or legitimately weren't feeling it that quick into the scene, but honestly I like that they did that? They got to go do something they enjoyed, I got the chance to go engage in Rp where people were mutually enjoying it instead. Generally as long as you don't make it a quality issue and make it a tastes/subjective thing instead (like "sorry I don't like random street fight rp" over "sorry but jaina didn't shoot out thralls' baby") it goes over fine.
When people use the term white knight ic it makes me want to eat a bag of bees.
If I do an even vaguely Rp-related mistell I'll just panic and spaghetti-log. Because accidentally asking for Rp in /1 on an Rp realm = so embarrassing I guess.

When the atmosphere gets too heavy and you can almost sense how tense things are getting, on an out of character level, I tell people Arenfel has a headache and log off. I've got enough anxieties without dealing with people throwing shit-storms over fictional doo-dads.
Oh, and people who incessantly quote "the lore", frustrate me. Blizzard lore is fluent in the worst way possible, and when a character repeatedly mentions one or two nuggets of information verbatim (in my opinion) it devalues them as machine-like sock puppets; unless it's expressed along with the character's opinion. (Best example of this would probably be the four Laws of Arcane Magic, which by rights, is defunct and non-canon as it originates from the RPG books).

Just a note: The RPG books aren't stated to all be faulty. But they're non-authoritative. This means they can still be considered valid -so long as no other lore contradicts them-. There's plenty of stuff in WoW and such that confirms things from the RPG books, and those bits and pieces are valid.
Basically, the RPG sources are still considered valid untill other stuff shows up to contradict them, at which point it's decanonified

I don't really understand how people can't like a person oocly based on the IC-character... that's like ugh.
Which reminds me how Djego was ignored for the majority of Vanilla and the burning crusade by Super-cereal RP guilds, until I basically said - hey guys, itsa meee! and suddenly they could appreciate the idiocy of the character instead of dismissing him as a loller.
This both amused me and I found it extremely sad. But then that kinda proved the experiment about how far the elitism in the rp cliques went back then which was the hole point.

More of a pet peeve: People who needlessly change the name of their race to a more pretentious version of what it originally is, like Blood Elf -> Sin'Dorei, Night Elf -> Kaldorei, or Worgen -> Afflicted Gilnean.
It's like... What's the point? You're not giving anyone any new information. All you're doing is make your profile look less organic.
In protest to that strange movement I usually change my character's race into something nonsensical.
EDIT: I confess that I still don't fully understand what the word "Pedantic" means.
EDIT 2: I now know what it means.

The answer to that question is simple. If I find a character literally too annoying to interact with, I'll simply avoid doing so, because it'll just give me a headache. It's nothing to do with elitism. I accept all rp (as long as it's plausible).Amaryl wrote:Quin wrote:erwtenpeller wrote:I am familiar with this sensation.Arabella Greene wrote:If I encounter a character that I oocly disagree with/how they are played, then I usually find myself getting extremely frustrated by their presence during the whole encounter, and just wish that they'll disappear

Can only say I had exactly the same when I went from my First Char Dreth. Dreth was a rum drinking flirt pirate, good company and I think well liked. Suddenly I roll up with the Black as night Lexgrad and I lost loads of "friends". I really havent changed, I was just as much of a dick back then really. AD is much the same, I made a really dark Nelf and had very few friends, then made an innocent and pure as snow baby paladin and he is the flavour of the month. It is all really IC//OOC rule breaking really.
I knew about the Quin/Samian thing btw, I rate any RPer who can do difference like this as so many just churn out the same chars in new skins. Hell most RPers cant make one Character.

I really can't disagree with this more. When I played Calamity as little more than a villain and an inescapable nuisance I'd frequently get whispers from players I didn't know, telling me they loved my character. I've seen people assume that I dislike them just because my character dislikes them (which is never true!), but I've never seen anyone follow the behaviour you've described, going as far back as TBC. I wasn't on Defias until MoP however, so maybe it was just a Defias thing of the past.

I think I am missing something vital here.
Do people think that by my statement I meant that I bring my OOC dislike for a character IC?
Because if you can sight a time that I have done this ever in the last 4 years, I'll give you 100g ingame. No joke.
I doubt I will lose any money.

I hate anyone who RPs a sexually active Death Knight. I'm sorry, I just do.
I also hate any Death Knight that acts like an emo teenager.
Or any Death Knight that just stands in a bar all day for no reason.
Or any Death Knight trying to do evil/shady things... but never leaves Stormwind.
I have a lot of issues with Death Knights.
I LOVE it when Death Knights are RPed correctly though, they become awesome characters, shame that my character is just a zealous cunt who discriminates them and never talks to them properly.
Warlocks. You can't have demons out in public. Even if it is a cute felhound. You also can't use fel in public. Or shadow. You also shouldn't be an obvious cultist with dark clothes/soulshards/demonic blades etc. If you do any of these I prejudge you intensely as a new, or just bad RPer. If you're doing it in satire though, it's usually fine.
Theme songs in TRP. Why? It's fucking stupid. Nobody cares. Anyone who does this I think deserves to be shot.
With classes you can at least mess around with what your character is supposed to be, but I swear to god if you put "Arch-mage" in class I will kill you intimately, and I will judge you as not knowing what an arch mage is (Hint! It's a title).
Characters that are made up of cliches with no depth or reason as to why they are like that I dislike intensely.
... I'll rant more at some later point.

While I respect your right to be of the opinion, I think warlocks, in obvious warlock-xmogs actually add a lot to the RP scene. Warlocks have fought in every war since wow hit. Some are bound to still be at it, on the side of good. Some RPers may be portraying these individuals.Terenus wrote:

Confession: I dislike the server mindset towards locks who don't hide what they are (even if they're as Lawful Good as they get). It strikes me as a combination of disruptive, ridiculous and lorebreaking.
Warlocks aren't super-rare, and 100% frowned upon in the game by default. That's something we RPers have made up for some reason. Notice that the city guards do not throw bananas or spit at warlocks. And that King Wrynn never has to shout to the people that warlocks can be ok now. He doesn't have to. Before it comes up, no, I'm not talking about using fel within city borders, which also, isn't worse than a warrior using his weapons within city borders or a priest starting to smite, lethal force is lethal and bad m'kay? I'm talking about stuff like getting arrested mid-RP and locked up in an empty basement when your character hasn't done anything wrong, has behaved well, and it's just about "Yeah, but you're bad lol" (This has happened to me, not too long ago, by guild members of a certain guild I shan't name and shame here).
I could go on, but eh... Don't treat Warlocks like Scourge or Twilight's Hammer-cultists, it makes no sense, is probaby the essence of what I'm saying.

I agree on what Dwy said. In the end, it's all about how the person RP's it out, and if it's legit or not.
Also, I think I still have a GHI item from Quinn somewhere with poems in. Still cracks me up everytime I read it.

Re: RP Confessions
I have to confess that I have macros with songs and music to play when things get dreary - such as the Lament of the highborne. I have several others and can hear them at will on any toon both factions.
Meranda
This extract includes an example of the macro linking
Lament of the Highborne
Fanart of Sylvanas singing the lament.
Originally thought to be a lament to the Fall of Quel'Thalas, or possibly the Troll Wars, Lament of the Highborne is a tribute to both these events and more. The original song may have actually been in Darnassian, but given the similarities between it and Thalassian, this is probably a moot point. The original version is a Kaldorei song lamenting the losses during the War of the Ancients — a tribute to the members of the Kaldorei Resistance who fought against, and died by the claws of, the Burning Legion. Some 2,800 years ago, the words were altered (though the melody remained the same) to reflect the similar losses and courage found in the Troll Wars. The song (possibly modified slightly) rose to popularity in recent years, after the Fall of Quel'Thalas, again to honor the fallen of Quel'Thalas and those who persevered. Hence, the song is a dirge, not for just the high elves, but for all elves; Kaldorei, quel'dorei, and sin'dorei alike.
Source Edit
◾Players who would like to store the lyrics in-game should finish the quests Official horde mini-icon [15] The Lady's Necklace and Official horde mini-icon [15] Journey to Undercity. This involves giving Sylvanas Windrunner [The Lady's Necklace], a gift from her beloved sister Alleria. When the singing is finished, talk to Ambassador Sunsorrow afterwards. He will give a book with the lyrics.
◾Hearing the song in-game is still possible even if one chooses not to do the quest line or as Alliance (who cannot do the chain as it is Horde only). Typing /script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Music\\GlueScreenMusic\\BCCredits_Lament_of_the_Highborne.mp3") into the game chat box, or as part of a simple macro, will cause the song to play.
