Life is No Picnic

When the sun is shining
and the spirits are high you say
"It's a lovely day for a picnic"

And when you sit
and eat your sandwiches
and drink your drink
and enjoy the sun
and soak up the mood
you think
"This doesn't taste right"

Your picnic basket capsized
An iceberg tearing a gaping hole
through that wonderful wicker weave

Your sandwiches are casualties
cast aside into the murky depths
Your drink spills into the waves
like an oil spill
polluting the picturesque scene

Sailing away from life
never quite works out

Best just eat inside

Curiosity killed the cat

We are born into our minds
A simple mind is a blessing
A restless mind is a curse
An inquisitive mind is a danger

"Curiosity Killed the Cat"
or so they say
But I think the cat killed herself

To be curious
is to be understanding
To be understanding
is to see past the wall

The stage is always set
The scenery changes frequently
Behind the curtains
the troupe plays life
And beyond the wall lies
death

"Death is a part of life"
or so they say
But I think life is a part of death

I am a shadow of a shadow
What never began
I should not be

I am an echo of an echo
I hesitate
I am still searching

I am a finger on a trigger
When I pull,
will I find it?

I am burning
Soon I am nothing

Where is hope?
