Keep Walking (Annie poems)
Well hey, I've written a lot about Aniane in the past and realised I never posted anything here on these boards, so I might as well start. They aren't written IC - as in, she couldn't write poetry to save her life - but they're my impressions of her.
I firmly believe that poetry should be able to stand on its own, but these works also have so much to do with the past and present of the character that I think a little explanation may really enrich their meaning and your enjoyment. So if you want a little background, it's in the spoiler below
First Morning, Last Days
Peel off the blankets, layers of an onion
that wrapped you tighter than my arms.
Pull your boots on,
whistle while the floorboards creak under your steps;
let me slip from your memory.
Swagger down the indifferent stair
while your seeds grow into thorns.
Oh, I was asleep the whole time,
dreaming of the South Seas.

- Spoiler:
- This is Annie before I began roleplaying her three years ago. Annie the wanderer, Annie the thief. Annie who would sleep with some bloke from a tavern just for a warm bed and a bowl of soup. The poem covers those meaningless nights, and the way she felt about them. She's always been a practical lass, but you know, it wasn't loads of fun.

Aw okay, gonna be a scrub and post two at once, because I love this one. Doesn't even need a long explanation - this is when she fell in love with Quinian.
Girl at Thirty
Dreaming in the firelight,
pouring wine over my scars and thinking of you--
of the days in the kitchen,
in the bar, behind the casks and glasses
when nothing but liquor comes between our lips
and we are like the ends of cigarettes,
glowing.
