Vanishing characters

I was in the exact same position as you thor on monny with her second partner.. she got sweeped off her hooves.. and became engaged to be married.. her partner stopped logging on.. only logging once a month effectively playing with monny.. a few months ago she finally cut ties by unceremoniously throwing the engagement ring into the canal

Been in the same situation a couple of times and, to my fault, once provoked it, even. I am lucky(!) on this regard, because all of my chars when they get into relationships are selfish bastards, and their relations tend to be very volatile. There are many ways to solve the issue, but the simplest is to simply put the other player's char in an unreachable position IC. Say that she's studying, that she's home and you're all the time traveling and fighting, and so on. Sure a love story and a marriage is important from a storytelling point of view, but it's not everything our chars live for. Besides, missing her could be great for your rp: Tuomas at the moment for example is still coping with the mess he made with his last lover(but that doesn't stop him to get other lovers *cough*).

Thorvald, why don't you just go looking for her IC:ly? I mean... Your wife just disappeared. You might know the ooc reason, but there's ways to make it interesting... Did she hangout with someone before vanishing? Maybe your character should go to that character and tell him what your toon thinks about seeing her wife

Spooky. I thought about doing a thread like this (not about his wife, but of characters dissapearing in general...) just a day before the OP made it.

Anyways...I've involved the disappearance of some characters into my RP (in cases where the players just vanished or quit for good) in the past, but there's still so many others, that I would've gone crazy at some point if I would've tried dealing with all of 'em. Having played near constantly since 2006 has it's downsides...I think I've seen at least 2-4 RP guilds crumple into dust, along with most of their members. Luckily though, only a handful of them were people who I cared for and would've liked to say goodbye to before they vanished into a thin air.

None can defeat the aging time, it is a curse placed upon us by both shadow and light.
