[A-RP] A Long-Expected Journey
Event Name: A Long-Expected JourneyFarewell we call to hearth and hall!
Though wind may blow and rain may fall,
We must away, ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall.
Date and time: 8:00 PM on Wednesday June 5th, Friday June 7th, Saturday June 8th, Sunday June 9th
Event description/plot: For centuries past, the Dwarven Highlands were terrorised by the terrible black dragon Azregahn. It has razed several villages, devoured countless dwarves, and collected a hoard of treasure incomparable to any other. Azregahn now lurks within his lair, his hunger for dwarf and gold dimished over the ages. Seeking vengeance, a group of dwarves attempt to enter the lair, slay Azregahn, and reclaim their lost gold.
Requirements: It is recommended you are level 85 or above to participate in all stages of the storyline.
Contact: Khordun, Gilran
Other information:
Azregahn was a black dragon of immense stature. It is said that his unnatural size was a result of his gluttony for dwarves and their gryphons. Indeed, he was known to plague the villages, burning them to the ground and claiming the golden items that dwarves carry. By some accounts, Azregahn was sent to Khaz Modan during the first Battle of Grim Batol during which the Demon Soul was destroyed. Upon Deathwing's defeat, he retreated into the deep, winding halls of the abandoned Wildhammer city, and claimed the riches stored within for his own. Eventually, he moved his hoard to the Obsidian Lair, and hid it under a powerful spell. Apparently, his movements were tracked, and a map was created detailing the location of the lost hoard, and a description of the sorcery used to conceal the gold (evidently some others tried to recover the treasure, but failed) was documented by the dwarf Floydan Darrowfell.
---FLOYDAN'S MAP---
The map depicts the entirety of the Twilight Highlands. On the southern coast is a small marking near the mountain ridge. The marking is the letter 'D' for Dragon, in Dwarven runic. The depiction of the Eastern ocean is covered in some form of elven (most likely Thalassian). On the back face, the entire parchment is covered in writing and pictures, describing the dragon's movements and actions, tactics, weak points, and theories pertaining to the intentions, plans, and magics of the dragon.
Trip Itinerary (A more detailed version can be found on threehammers.org)
- DAY 1
Meet up in Thelsamar. Discuss journey and fill up on supplies and so on. Leave via ram, travel North through Dun Algaz, across the Thandol Span and into the Arathi Highlands. Travel across to the unnamed pass that leads into the Hinterlands.
- DAY 2
Go to the Quel'Danil lodge to seek the counsel of the High Elves. They translate the writing on the map and inform the adventurers of the whereabouts of an important artefact that will help them on their quest.
-DAY 3
Begin return journey to the Wetlands. Travel all the way back to the Thandol Span, and head East to the Twilight Highlands. Battle through the pass and settle in Kirthaven.
-DAY 4
Travel across the Highlands and enter the Obsidian Lair. In the back of the cave lies the great dragon Azregahn. Will the adventurers succeed?
Some have put forward that Wrathion is the last black dragon. This however is open to interpretation.
"There is also the possibility that some black dragons on Azeroth have managed to evade Wrathion's detection as well.", as taken from http://www.wowpedia.org/Ask_CDev#Ask_CDev_Answers_-_Round_3
Also, as stated above, our dragon has been hidden from the outside world for a time now.

While this even would of been great a few months back, due to lore it might not work, at least unless you wish to break or ignore it. As stated by Wrathion he is the last black dragon known on Azaroth. At least to his knowledge. Of course you could say that he missed this one, yet if the tale of the above is true it would be unlikely considering how clever on his genocide of the remaining black dragons he was. This is me being lore nazi! Don't hate me!

I forgot about that!

It's also worth noting that our dragon has been loafing around in a pretty remote cave for the past hundred years or so.

Khordun, I think you should consider adding the lore-explaintain part to the OP, and quote the Dev directly with link attached. Other than that, can't wait for it to happen:
Re: [A-RP] A Long-Expected Journey
FUCK the lore. It's a good ol' fashioned DRAGON HUNT! That is awesome!
I'm booked on the Saturday, but I should be able to make the other days. Do you have to be a dwarf to participate? Would it break your immersion into the story greatly if characters of other races joined in on the fun?

Not necessarily. Though we would prefer dwarves, members of any other race are allowed in on the fun.erwtenpeller wrote: Do you have to be a dwarf to participate? Would it break your immersion into the story greatly if characters of other races joined in on the fun?

I would love to have a Dwarf for this...the whole crazy Dwarven warrior. Yet sadly no Dwarfs! I do have a Silverweave, but I don't think he would go fighting dragons, and being awesome. Dam old man he's becoming!

I can see this conversation possibly happening but in a more serious manner
Duvaineth removes her ebon tabard and swoops by hearthglen " Hey lexy tell your boss you need a leave of absence, lets go kill a dragon." Lexadin: " For fels sake your brain rot knight, if I am going to die I will die in battle in service of the Argent Crusade. Duv " Oh well Lexy do tag along maybe we can slip something into their drinks while we stand aside and play nuetral as they get devoured by the beast just for a good laugh". Duv places her ebon tabard on and steals lexy with flying steed
Hahahahaha.
I think Duv might take a few days of neutrality to come and help slay the beast.

About DKs (edit: and possibly any other race/class recently introduced): I don't know how a group with a core of traditionalist dwarves (i.e Wildhammers) might react. But we'll see!

Is it possible to get some IC information for my character regarding this before the actual events begin?

In the spirit of the adventurous nature of this event, I think characters will be able to put their personal bias aside and band together to MURDER a dragon!
....And then! Then murder each other.
I've decided to attend on my Dwarf, Griffton Goldhammer, Guild Master of The Adventurers Guild.

Re: [A-RP] A Long-Expected Journey
It will soon be time for the dwarves to exact vengeance.
If you don't have time for that, just show up in Thelsamar at 8:00 PM on the first day, and you will be welcomed IC.
Senate is a good time to talk to Khordun IC about joining the Company! With foes ahead, behind us dread,
Beneath the sky shall be our bed,
Until at last our toil be passed,
Our journey done, our errand sped.
If you don't have time for that, just show up in Thelsamar at 8:00 PM on the first day, and you will be welcomed IC.

First event was a great success. We had multitudes of people turning up, and made good progress with the storyline. Next event is on Friday at the same time, so be sure to join in!
