Tips for Outland(lvl 60-70) Empty Tips for Outland(lvl 60-70)

Post by Xen-tau Thu Jan 17, 2013 1:33 pm

Dear friends of Defias Brotherhood!

I have multiple characters that have just turned 60, and when I enter Hellfire Peninsula I am like: "Meh, F it!". I think questing in Outland is terrible and all and I usually just dungeon through them with as many looms as I can find.

However, I am leveling a dwarf on Darkmoon Faire because of my friends I have known since middle school play on that server. Now I level a dwarf there together with someone who has never played WoW before and is too insecure/scared to play instances... so no looms and all and just questing...

Question is... how do I survive this?

Questing is faster than dungeon inch you can be in and out of Outland in 3 or 4 hours even without looms! Just shave your head and plough through it!

Questing through Outland used to take a loooot longer, too, back when it was first released. They easy-ed it up and upped the experience gain big time, if I recall correctly.

I think they reduced the XP from 60-70 3 times. First 20%, then 20% again and then like 15% after that. It's easily cut in half from what it originally was.

You barely have to leave Hellfire these days. I've not long done it.

Guilded (with the perks) and heirlooms you'd probably need only a handful of quests/instances on top of those in HFP, even if you entered at 58 (which you can). But you could drop HFP and move to Zangar after I dunno, 62? And probably do that to 68 (including instances for quests etc).

Don't forget Northrend only needs 68 to begin questing. Though Cata does need 80.

Wrath solo I find dull. It's quicker, but not by enough. Solo its so fucking annoying. My DK (the second or third I've tried) is stuck in Grizzly Hills, growing moss.

Of all the expansions, outland is the quickest, easiest and least torturing one to level through.

It's the others that will be the problem. Neutral

But that's me.

I usually only level in Hellfire (by quests) while doing dungeons simultaniously. After that I keep to just dungeons.

It's just that I relatively know little of Outland I guess. Just like classical music, I appreciate it when I know stories of the lands. xD And I can talk about Nagrand, the half elf in Hellfire, Shattrah and such, but that's it. xD

But I guess it's just me. I don't mind Northrend(apart from Horde Dragonblight, I keep running into stealthed Star's Rest). :'D

Here's what I do:

> Make sure you leave your current area and move on to a level appropriate area as soon as you ding. The quest XP is higher in higher levelled areas.
> Make sure you get a buddy to push you through the ring of blood in Nagrand, that's like half a level right there.
> If you do dungeons, make sure you do every dungeon only once. The dungeon quest xp is divine, and personally I find running dungeons to be a welcome break from the grind.
> Distract yourself by looking for RP gear while you quest! Outland has some of the most usable RP gear from quests and dungeons in the entire game.
> Distract yourself with other media; Listen to music, watch some TV, put on a movie, get shitfaced. Anything.

GL;HF. Go kick outlands ass.

Welcome to Northrend.

That's your opinion. I'll agree to an extent regarding the dungeon gear, but... from quests? YOU CRAZEH?

The last time I was in Outland, I stuck in Hellfire and was level 65 by the time I'd finished it and the dungeons associated with it. I went to Nagrand, hit 68 and left.

I don't move around much at all when there isn't much point. Of course, that is with 'looms. So, you might want to take the advice regarding moving on when it makes sense. Otherwise you'll find it's taking longer than it should.

I think that about 70% of the RP gear I use on my characters is from outland quests or dungeons. Perhaps I have weird taste, then. Very Happy

Krol The Blade in Dread Wastes.

"Elixir of Ancient Knowledge". Though the text on the item isn't clear, it is consumed on use (it stacks).

There are plenty of zones in Outland, pick the ones you're least familiar with to make it a tiny tad more interesting (say, for me that'd mean don't do the standard Hellfire-Zangar-Nagrand-Bladesedge-1,6 instances-Northrend progression, but to pick different zones where available, working Terrokar forest / Netherstorm etc into the zone progression).

Don't make it more of a grind than needs be. Take some time off for professions every now and then, go do a daily in stormwind, dare your buddy to try ONE bg whenever you're at the top of a level bracket, just to teach him/her the basics of bg-objectives...

I always go HFP -> Zangar -> Nagrand -> Shadowmoon Valley because all the other zones suck gay donkey ass and I can't stand them. Blade's Edge and Netherstorm are the worst.

Outland quests offer the most variety in gear. Northrend, Cata, and MoP might have some nice stuff, but for the most part it's all very samey. Just recolors.

Outland has some bad gear, but also some amazing gear. It has huge variety.

On-topic: I personally don't recommend doing dungeons at all while leveling. Sure, it's faster experience, but you get much more money from questing, which is needed for epic flying and such.

You can get 10x the amount of that by buying Darkmoon cards, putting them together and reselling them for much more gold (As an example). You can do the same thing with many different items. It just takes 5-10 minutes, so I wouldn't really worry about gold.
