Character Profiles
Not to put down the wiki or anything but it seems to me that this forum is used more by players, and we should maybe have a wee section for character profiles/backgrounds? I enjoy reading those and I'm sure other people do as well if not then oh well, perhaps we should promote the Defias wiki more in that case. Opinions?

Editing this OP (hope you don't mind Zalissa).
The idea this far is to make a character profile forum for population, including sub-forums for nations as where characters are born. We want to include all Alliance, Horde and Neutral zones. Please do help out! I will store the list here for now for it to be easy to find.
Edit: There are two ideas on how to do this now.
Idea 1:
- Spoiler:
Can we specify what regions each nation includes also to make it easier? I will collect a list. A suggestion could be to simply put Outlands and Draenor as their own sections.
For now:
Stormwind - Elwynn, Westfall, Duskwood, Redridge
Gilneas - Gilneas
Stromgarde - Arathi Highlands
Alterac - Alterac Mountains
Lordaeron, Human - Western Plaguelands, Eastern Plaguelands, Silverpine Forest, Tirisfal Glades, Hillsbrad Foothills
Lordaeron, Forsaken - Western Plaguelands, Eastern Plaguelands, Silverpine Forest, Tirisfal Glades, Hillsbrad Foothills
Dalaran - Dalaran
Draenor - Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, Nagrand, Blade´s Edge Mountains, Netherstorm, Shadowmoond Valley
Northrend - Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Zul'Drak, Dragonblight, Crystalsong, Storm Peaks, Icecrown, Sholazar Basin, Borean Tundra
Ironforge - Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, The Hinterlands
Darnassus - Darkshore, Felwood, Teldrassil, Hyjal, Ashenvale Forest, Feralas, Winterspring, Moonglade
Gnomeregan -
Kul'Tiras -
Orgrimmar -
Thunderbluff - Mulgore
Silvermoon -
Pandaria -
(Do correct me if I'm wrong, and please help me fill the list in)
/Julia
And idea 2:
- Spoiler:
Azeroth: Stormwind, Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Duskwood, Redridge Mountains, Burning Steppes, Swamp of Sorrows, Deadwind Pass, Blasted Lands, Stranglethorn Vale
Khaz Modan: The Badlands, Searing Gorge, Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, The Wetlands, Kul Tiras
Lordaeron (and Quel'Thalas): Arathi Highlands, Hinterlands, Hillsbrad Foothills, Alterac Mountains, Silverpine, Tirisfal Glades, Gilneas, Western Plaguelands, Eastern Plaguelands, Quel'Thalas
Northern Kalimdor: Teldrassil, Darkshore, Felwood, Moonglade, Winterspring, Hyjal, Ashenvale, Azshara
Central Kalimdor: Stonetalon Mountains, Desolace, Mulgore, The Barrens, Durotar, Dustwallow Marsh
Southern Kalimdor: Feralas, Silithus, Ungoro Crater, Tanaris, Thousand Needles
Draenor/Outlands: Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, Nagrand, Blade´s Edge Mountains, Netherstorm, Shadowmoond Valley
Northrend: Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Zul'Drak, Dragonblight, Crystalsong, Storm Peaks, Icecrown, Sholazar Basin, Borean Tundra
Pandaria: Kun-Lai Summit, The Jade Forest, Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Valley of the Four Winds, Karasarang Wilds, Dead Wastes, Townlong Steppes
Others: Kezan, Wandering Isle, The Darkspear Isles

Re: Character Profiles
If you ask me we should just stick with using the Wiki. While it is on a separate page it also does have the advantage of anyone being able to add/remove information, and you do not have to go through the complicated process.
I myself promote the Wiki by making a link to my characters profiles in my signature. That way anyone who is interested in characters of mine it is rather easy to go, find and read it.
It 'may' need some spring-cleaning, adding characters do "Deceased characters" or "Deceased Guilds" etc, but that is another thing.

Re: Character Profiles
I think character profiles and such is a good idea. There's quite few people who doesn't bother with making a wiki, and i'm sure more people would post their backgrounds and such if it was easier than making a new Wikia page. But that's just my thoughts.

Re: Character Profiles
This is a decent idea, actually. I mean, even if we kept the Wiki going it's probably still more likely that people will view the character profiles here. We've got a decent portion of the RP community on this forum, so, it would make sense.
At first I thought folks could simply put their character profiles in their library section, but a dedicated place for them is definitely better.

Re: Character Profiles
This could also be good to replace a population thread as each person can update for themselves as they see fit instead of waiting for the one person that posted the post with the list.

Re: Character Profiles
Well, I removed the population thread due to inactivity anyway
Do we think it'd be a better plan to restrict each member to a single thread? So they can detail all of their characters in one spot, or an individual thread for each character?

Well, if one makes a post for each character it is "easier" to see how the population looks ICly. Could even name such a forum Population then.

Re: Character Profiles
Aye, fair enough. I just wondered if keeping it all in one thread would make it easier for people to find the character they were interested in looking up.
Though, that would depend on everyone knowing every character each player has xD So never mind me!

Re: Character Profiles
This is perhaps an extensive and extreme idea.
But one could make topics like "Stormwind" "Lordaeron" "Gilneas" "Orgrimmar" "Outland" or whatever, and players who's characters herald from certain places can put their profiles there.
That way the person looking can go "I'd like to know more about the people who roleplay a kirin tor member!" ..
Maybe.

Re: Character Profiles
I really like that actually Erahn. Sectioning profiles on a basis of where the character comes from. That's actually really handy for Gilneans since Gilneas was so retained as a community it would make sense for people to know one another. I'm not supposing we metagame with the information people provide but it'd help. Plus it would seem a bit more organised if it was location based too.

Well one could simply leave a little note saying if its open for people to know the person or not IC.

Re: Character Profiles
Yeah, could write/create like a public knowledge section. On my wiki I have a "things you MAY know about x" and "things you may NOT know about x" could work nicely.

Then I guess, what would be the different locations Alliance, Horde and Neutral sides?

Julia wrote:Then I guess, what would be the different locations Alliance, Horde and Neutral sides?
That's a little tricky, mainly with the Horde since they're an alien race (orcs) that still have many players roleplaying being Draenor born, where as just as many are Azeroth born.
But my suggestion is (atleast for humans) nations. Stormwind, Gilneas, Stromgarde, Lordaeron, Dalaran. (Then in the background/profile the player himself can specificy city/town/village.)
Of course, other races can make it more complicated and right now I lack an idea of how their setup might look. o;
But of course, anyone can add ideas to this, help it grow.

Re: Character Profiles
Also should we mix forsaken with humans when it comes to Lordaeron - or make a Pre- and Post- Lordaeron?
(Dalaran only has the city of Kirin Tor I believe.
Lordaeron has Tirisfal, WPL-EPL, Hillsbrad, Alterac and Silverpine (the two latter belonged to other nations formerly.
Gilneas has it's peninsula since the wall cut Silverpine off and thus Lordaeron took care of it. ((I believe?)).
Tol Barad used to be Stromgardian, but it's current holder is Kul Tiras.)

Pre- and Post- sounds good to me. Maybe naming it Lordaeron - Forsaken / Lordaeron - Human?

Another small idea. Can't you make another website-bar and call it: "Wiki char profile" or something? Just so you can click on it on the forum.

The only difference is.
Registration on the Wiki is less complicated than it is here, so perhaps registration WITHOUT vouches can allow one access in using the Wiki?

The application vouch system isn't going anywhere for the time being. Continually bringing it up isn't going to change that.

Re: Character Profiles
I think the wiki should remain for "full" profiles. When I've been in RP communities with both a profile forum and a wiki, it's typically been that the profile forum just includes relevent, quickly accessed information (like biological information, rumors, brief descriptions of notable history, and so on), while the full history is left to the wiki.

Think you have misunderstood ma boy
I meant the standard initialization of an account, when it is approved by an administrator it's a green account without posting rights on the rest of the forum. I am suggesting that the character profile page should be accessible from before writing an application. So the people who want to spare themselves of reading some of the shit that's posted and not wasting their time can simply post their character profile and still be a part of the community.
Also, continually bringing something up does indeed mark it for change, that's generally how things work!
Also Drustai, sort of agree with you, but I'm 50/50 about it. I find it easier to just take a template, copy paste it and fill it out, while a wiki is more flexible, argh, I don;'t know.
