Also try marrying your sons to women that have the trait genius. Their offspring have a higher chance of inheriting that particular trait (and other biological traits) like it afaik.

Yes! I've bred my current son so he's a genius. He'll likely be the first King of Frysia :DDDD

HELP! Somebody asked me to allow a marriage and I thought "Sweet, my sons will be getting some!", followed by some bitch called Katrine leaving my country for the Court of England. Wtf happened, how bad is it, and can I do anything to get her back?

Uh if Katrine wasn't your daughter it probably isn't too important that she left, you can go to England and look at the ruler's court for Katrine and see who she is and all that.

Okay. I just let it happen again. This time, my daughter married the king of Poland. Is this good or bad?

And even if she is your daughter then you might have gotten an alliance out of it, which could come in handy.

Possibly. The King of Poland is now your ally and since you're both kings I geuss you could Call to Arms him in case of war.
... be more careful about marrying off your children!

I use my female dynasty members for the following:
Matrilineally betrothing them to child counts/dukes. It gets your dynasty another county which could be useful. You can also use sons in this manner if you spot a child countess/duchess.
Matrilineally marrying them to interesting courtiers to grow my dynasty if my dynasty is small.
Marrying them to close relatives of counts/dukes/kings/emperors or these persons themselves for an alliance. (think she needs to be a close relative of you too)
Marrying them to Rurikovich people for the prestige. (again, need a close female relative for this)

Re: Crusader Kings II!
Okay, so what happened was Sweden went to war with me and I raised a lot of army and attacked them. This, however, meant that I went -income and once I had -300 I started going panic mode and restarted. I'm now the kaiser of the holy roman empire and my wife is preggers and everybody thinks I'm the bee's knees.
Also, my sister and half-sister are both married to two of the princes of sweden. Pretty great all in all.
Who do I go to war with first if I'm Holy Roman Empire? I kinda wanna do Denmark because I want to have Denmark because I'm danish and it should be mine... But I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing (even though at 11k army raised I still have positive income so I'm thinking I just picked some really OP character and I can do whatever the fuck I want with my power)..
Also, do I need to mind the french if I conquer them?

Holy roman empire is a Poisoned cup dude, you have enemies everywere and they will wait for your armies to thin in wars then strike! Plus the elector system can bone you hard.
To win wars just find lots of small battles you can win rather than big epic conflict. Siege and take towns, wipe off the smaller units.
Broad campaign>one big army tactic.
You need a reason to go to war if you are going against a Catholic nation, ie a claim to the land that you can fake or a war of sucession. Vs Heretics and heathens go for it.
Once you win the war you can negotiate what lands become yours.

River between the county you're moving in to attack from, the enemy has better troops, or somesuch. Though if you meant the warscore, then don't worry, it'll change once you beat the enemy army off and siege a few demesnes.Drefurion wrote:War for usurping Flanders yaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Starters, you need to have a casus belli to go to war, they can vary from an excommunicated ruler to some random courtier of yours having a claim on a county that belongs to the country you want to attack (though if you declare war based on that, then you won't get to keep all the counties you successfully invaded when you win the war, just the county that has a claim on it. On the bright side you've a very happy count now.)
Keep good relations to all of your vassals, make sure you've a clear candidate well beforehand for the throne when your current Emperor dies so that the vassals flock behind him in time for the election.
With a 11k stack you should be able to conquer Denmark, which can raise about 3k men if I remember correctly. It's all about getting the reason to go to war, try to fabricate a claim on it, by putting your chancellor in their capital.
Lexs strategy works when you're more or less equal and a single, decisive battle would delay the whole war too much. But in a HRE vs. Denmark match just smash their army to pieces and put a besieging force in every county to prevent them from raising anymore levies.

Nope, in fact, since Dutch culture is still almost dead and I had some mercenaries.
I also managed to off the Flemish army but then their Duke got married and got a powerful ally, who raised 5k men.

Generals with high military skill can really improve on an army's performance afaik. Maybe your opponent had one of those while you had a shitty general.

About army:
-Attaching mountains, across rivers means enemy has advantage
If you have negative funds, your army has VERY low morale and will break
You need to appoint generals for your army. Click on army, an d you will see three commanders each for every flank. Appoint competent ones.
As HRE, you should expand into Meckleburg and Pagan North-eastern Europe, while trying to fabricate a claim on Apullia or Benevento and marry your way into getting Denmark or even France!
PS: I would also consolidate your Demesne at expense of traitors. You need a good demesne in case you ever lose the Imperial title.

Though as a tip to the future, that only works in Kingdoms/Empire where the vassals don't enjoy a high degree of autonomy. If they do, they'll lead their own troops in battle, and usually the ones who have the biggest portions lead the flanks and center.Melnerag wrote:

I am fairly sure that you can change it and select other people to general over your armies.

You can change that law, yeah, but the vassals ain't too happy when you do it. Prepare to put down revolts when they want it to be changed back, and if you were planning to go to war, that's going to delay the plans a lot.

Re: Crusader Kings II!
Trying to weasel my way on the Byzantine throne. While fending off Mongol Doomstacks of 50k.
Playing as Seniority Succession is so much fun. There are great gains and sometimes great losses. Nobody rules for more than 15 years due to starting as 60+, but some come to the throne with a lot of gold, a lot of piety, good relations with other characters, established marriages and alliances, a nest of children and grandchildren and sometimes even a retinue. And all truces refresh on succession!
