Is there anyone else who found moving from pencil and paper to tablet jarring? I've practiced a lot, but I find the friction-less surface... Disconcerting.

Oh its lovely!! And yes, moving to a tablet can be quite difficult. I hatehatehate the texture of paper, it makes me cringe (apart from thick GSM paper) so I was happy to have a smooth surface.

I had a real trouble with my old Wacom tablet (A reaaally old graphire one). Was too slippery and plasticy. Recently got one of Wacom's Bamboo tablets though, and it feels a load more natural and responsive, drawing with it's far easier. For a cheap tablet I've been very very impressed.

I suspect I have the same (or a similar) one. It's a wacom bamboo something-or-other, certainly. More than likely I just need to practice, but I'm not very patient.

I have a Bamboo tablet and use it a lot in editing stuff but i'm yet to master drawing with it. I love the texture of paper and find there's not enough friction against the tablet surface to draw effectively. I love digital artwork and REALLY want to get better at it. I think i'm going to shut myself off from the world and trawl youtube for all the wonderful digital art tutorials to see what I can find.

If you can change the nips things in your tablet pen you can get one with a more rough texture.
